TREATMENT BOOST FOR ARCHIE, TWO Milestone for families as Movement Centre programme becomes fully-funded
Driver flees after car hits lamppost
Emergency crews were called after a car crashed into a lamppost in Market Drayton. Three fire engines, including the rescue tender, were scrambled from Hodnet, Market Drayton, Prees and Wellington to reports of a collision in Riverside Drive at 12.24am on Monday. An operations officer was also sent. When they arrived the crews found the crash scene involving one saloon vehicle. No-one was trapped and the fire crews made the vehicle safe. The driver fled the scene. The car was subsequently recovered.
MP backs bill that calls for election
North Shropshire’s MP is backing a bill calling for a General Election, saying the public must be given a say after weeks of Conservative ‘chaos’. Liberal Democrat MP Helen Morgan said voters had been “repeatedly let down”. She has now backed a bill in Parliament calling for an early General Election – by December 1. The bill was tabled in Parliament on Monday. Mrs Morgan urged MPs from across the political spectrum to back the bill and give people a say over the country’s future.
The Movement Centre in Oswestry gives children the chance to gain more control of their movements and reach their full potential through Targeted Training Therapy, the only treatment of its kind in the world. Now, thanks to the ongoing efforts of fundraisers, sponsors

newsroom@mnamedia.co.uk and charity supporters, families no longer have to find the partial funding of £2,000 necessary to fund the life-changing therapy. And one of the first children to benefit from the fully-funded programme is two-year-old Archie Klein, from Market Drayton, who has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. Archie’s mother Leanne Hoey, said: “It is just brilliant to be able to go ahead with the treatment now and not have to worry about how we are going to find the money to pay for it. “We were thinking we would
have to find the money somehow and didn’t know until our last appointment that Archie’s treatment would be fully-funded.” Archie has been set up in a standing frame with a flat posterior support at sacral level and support directly below the knees to improve his standing and stepping abilities. Leanne added: “Archie is at the age now where he is starting to realise that he can’t do certain things but really wants to – and that pulls at the heartstrings – so to be able to get him on his feet is going to be just brilliant. “Without this funding Archie’s treatment would have had to be delayed, then we found The Movement
Centre and things are now looking much more positive.” David Vicary, chairman of trustees at The Movement Centre, said: “This is a huge milestone and a massive change for the centre and for those benefiting from the amazing work carried out by our staff. “Previously families have had to pay £2,000 for Targeted Training Therapy, which was the biggest obstacle to them accessing this vital treatment. “Thanks to the commitment of existing fundraisers and supporters we are delighted to be able to make the therapy for every child fully-funded for the first time in the history of the charity.”
Inflation blamed for rise in parking fees
Highways chiefs have blamed inflation for increases in charges at council car parks across the county. Shropshire Council officials have confirmed that the “small increases” in charges at car parks and onstreet parking areas will come into effect on Monday. Richard Marshall, Shropshire Council cabinet member, blamed inflation for the increase, saying: “We do appreciate that people are facing financial pressures at the moment. “However, to not increase charges at all would mean having to cut other essential services.” l Defends – Page 2
