FAMILY PLEA ON TRIBUTES The family of two boys who were killed in a crash have made a desperate plea for the return of tributes that have disappeared from the scene.
Flowers, tributes, teddy bears and a banner have adorned the spot on the corner of Lawnswood Avenue and Birmingham New Road in Wolverhampton since Sanjay Singh, 10, and Pawanveer Singh, 23 months old, were killed in a devastating car crash in March 2019. The family were shocked to find the memorial items had gone – some had been put there only days before to mark Pawanveer’s birthday on March 23. Now, close family of the boys are asking for the return of the me-

morial items. Kam Nicky Mattu, brother-in-law of the boys’ mother Arathi Nahar, said: “At first it was just the banner, but now everything has come down. We had only just visited the site to place some more changes to the teddies that had become weathered with new ones. “It would have been Pawanveer’s birthday on March 23, that’s why we took some more teddies down and stuff. I got a message from a family member saying that the banner had gone, and when we visited it had all gone.” Following the tragedy, the family endured a drawn-out fight for justice before Mohammed Sullaiman Singh, 27, of Pershore Road, Edgbaston, was jailed almost three
years later in September 2023. Kam added: “We are just thinking about why it would have been taken down now – you know like, was it stolen, was it blown around by the wind, was it removed by the council, we aren’t really sure. We actually had a clean-up there a few weeks ago to make it look nicer, changed out the weathered teddies and the pictures and flowers, but we aren’t sure when it was taken.” The family said they would like to see the items returned so they can remember their loved ones’ memories. Kam said: “We really don’t know why it would have been taken down. It would be nice if we could get the stuff back as it’s really special to us.” Wolverhampton Council has been contacted for comment about the tributes.
