The family of a 78-yearold woman from a village near Newport who died in a road collision have said their loss has left a ‘huge hole’ in many lives. Patricia Jones, aged 78, was killed in a crash on the A442, in Telford, near the Long Lane Cafe on Sunday, November 27. Now, her family have paid tribute to the ‘special and much-loved’ grandmother. of St Lawrence’s, Preston Upon the Weald Moors, and secretary for the Six Parishes, a member of Kynnersley WI and Garden Club and a school governor. “She loved gardening and walking, spending time with family and friends and organising and attending various social events. She enjoyed travelling, both day trips and holidays in the sun. “We are so grateful for the many tributes, messages of sympathy and memories of mum that have been shared with us over the last week. “She was a very special and much-loved lady whose kindness, generosity and sense of humour will be greatly missed by us all.” A man was arrested at the scene of the crash on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Last opportunity to back Tree of Light appeal Time is running out for people in Newport to remember loved ones and contribute to local charities through the Tree of Light charity appeal. A minimum donation of £5 will sponsor a light on the town’s Christmas tree, located in the churchyard of St Nicholas Church. The Rotary Club is appealing for residents to get involved, as the charity has seen participation fall
by 50 per cent on last year. The donation allows residents to ‘buy’ a light for the tree in the name of a loved one, and have their commemoration in the memorial book and the Advertiser. Gareth Lambe, president of the Rotary Club of Newport, explained: “It’s a way of helping people remember those that aren’t with us at Christmas, as well as raising money for charity. Any charity organi-
sation will tell you that since the pandemic, their income has fallen dramatically. “It’s important that people participate in supporting their local charities, and this is just one way they can help out.” Last year, the appeal raised £1,000 which was split between the Mayor’s charities and Rotary-supported international causes. l Coupon – Page 14

New milk vending machine will support dairy farmers A family business has set up a new base in Newport, offering fresh, local, and sustainable cow and buffalo milk. Chris and Suzie Waterfall already run The Milk Stop, a shop in Seighford village, Staffordshire, which stocks fresh cow and buffalo milk along with a variety of milkshakes. Now they have set up a new vending machine at Baddeley Court, Newport, with their business supporting local dairy farmers. The pair originally farmed themselves and diversified into water buffalo in 2011 as an opportunity to supply a niche market. Now they are purely into the processing and retail of milk but

continue to follow the same vision of sustainable produce. “We buy the milk from other local farms so we sit true to that idea of local, fresh and sustainable produce,” said Chris. “We still use buffalo milk as a unique selling point too, that’s our speciality. At our Newport base, you can buy a litre, glass, reusable bottle, so that’s part of the sustainability side of things. “You can take it home, wash it out and bring it back to use next time so you have got that continuity. So far, the vending business has been well received and we are quite happy with the initial response. As well as fresh cow and buffalo milk, we run six flavours of milkshake.”
