All should be reassured that CCTV recordings are managed in a controlled and secure environment and by personnel who have been vetted and approved by the police authority.” The funding of the cameras has been shared as a joint project between the parish council, Church Aston and Lilleshall borough councillor Andrew Eade and Telford & Wrekin Council.
“I am extremely pleased to say the CCTV cameras at both Church Aston’s Queen Elizabeth play area and at the top of Lilleshall Hill are now installed and fully operational,” said Mr Eade. “It is a shame that we have had to go to such lengths to deal with anti-social behaviour, vandalism and other serious matters, but I would like to like to congratulate both Church Aston and Lilleshall parish councils together with public protection officers at Telford & Wrekin Council for working together on these projects and jointly funding the cameras along with myself. “I sincerely hope these monitored cameras will not only help to prevent recent problems but provide the reassurance to families who all enjoy using these local facilities.”
Santa ready to start sleigh ride through town Santa and his elves will be touring the streets of Newport from this weekend to raise funds for charity. Newport Rotary Lite’s sleigh tour started at the Christmas Lights switch-on last Friday and, from this Saturday, will be visiting most streets across the Newport area. Newport Rotary Lite’s ‘chief elf’, Jon Humphreys, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be hitting the streets of the Newport area with

It will be his first tour since the pandemic. “Last year, he appeared in several fixed locations around the area which went down very well, but we know what people really love is when he tours the streets – it gives a lot more children and elderly people the chance to see him. “It’s going to be a tough winter for a lot of people and we want to
get out there and bring Christmas cheer to as many people as possible. “The reaction when we mentioned this to people at the Christmas lights was just fantastic. More than 100 children queued to see him, they were so excited. The sleigh has such a loyal following across the Newport area – it’s wonderful to see. Baker on board to deliver 22,000 railway cookies A baker from Newport who set up a new small business during the pandemic has been handed the perfect Christmas gift – making more than 20,000 cookies for The Polar Express. Imogen Kelly set up Immi’s Cakes and Bakes during the first lockdown of 2020 after choosing to start a baking business over a teaching career. It has proved a success and it is now set to sky-rocket after she was given a huge order to bake 22,000 cookies for the Telford Steam Railway. She said: “It’s been really exciting and it’s so nice to know larger companies will consider local businesses, especially with the high costs we face. Even things like the price of eggs have risen greatly.
“So it’s such a massive thing to have support and to get this opportunity. It’s funny because when I got the order, I misread it. I thought it was for 1,100 cookies and it was just one order but I was then told that’s per day, so it’s 22,000 freshly baked cookies from now until Christmas!” Imogen, 23, who grew up in Newport but now lives in Muxton, said baking had always been a passion but she started to take things seriously during the pandemic, while studying at University of Warwick. She started baking at her parents’ home and posted pictures on social media – and that’s when the orders started rolling in. “It’s gone really well and I am working around the clock, every spare moment now,” she said.
