HAVE A SAY OVER PARKING PLANS Town residents and businesses invited to drop-in sessions to offer their comments

Businesses and residents in Bridgnorth have been invited to attend drop-in sessions to find out more about on-street parking schemes.
An online consultation was held in May and June this year, as the first stage in gathering residents’ views on the town’s parking schemes. Now, face-to-face events will be held in Bridgnorth Library where new and proposed changes to the town’s parking schemes will be on display. And residents have been encouraged to drop in and have a look, as well as offer their comments. Richard Marshall, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for parking, said: “In response to concerns about parking congestion we’re giving consideration to the introduction and revision of a number of residents’ onstreet preferential parking schemes in Bridgnorth. “Now we really want people to see the proposed changes, ask questions and tell us what they think – whether it’s at one of these drop-in events, or on our website.” The scheduled drop-in events are as follows: Monday, December 5, from 2pm to 9pm and Tuesday, December 6, from 9am to noon – for residents in the West Division areas. Monday, December 12, from 2pm to 9pm and Tuesday, December 13, from 9am to noon – for residents in the East Division areas.
Driver who killed cyclist, 19, is jailed
A man has been jailed for nine years for causing the death of a 19-yearold cyclist by dangerous driving. Florentine Chinanga–Chou died after his bicycle was struck by a red Vauxhall Corsa in the early hours of November 27, 2020. Christopher Talbot, of Orchard Road, Bridgnorth, pleaded guilty to causing his death by dangerous driving when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday afternoon. The 38-year-old also pleaded guilty to burglary, driving whilst disqualified, without a licence and insurance. l Death – Page 10
Severn flood alert lifted as rain lets up
A flood alert that was in place for Shropshire towns along the River Severn, including Bridgnorth, has been lifted. The Government’s flood advice service gave the all-clear as river levels have now fallen below the flood risk threshold. No further rainfall is forecast, but the situation is being monitored. Riverside communities including Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth had been on flood alert after days of torrential rain. A flood alert remains in place for the River Tern at Walcot.

World-famous flower grower, Albrighton-based David Austin Roses, has explained why it had had to take the decision to end decades of tradition. The firm says Shropshire Lad, an award-winning variety that has been a best seller since 1996, is now too delicate for today’s changing climate.
