Members of a rowing club in Bridgnorth have reacted with fury after vital life-saving equipment was stolen. A defibrillator – funded by Bridgnorth Rowing Club – was taken from its storage box outside the Boat House, Bandon Lane, in Low Town. It comes after it was also reported a defibrillator was stolen from just four miles away, at Morville Village Hall last week. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police. l Story – Page 6
One hurt in car and motorbike collision
A bus company has launched an investigation after one of its vehicles left the road and ploughed into a field near Bridgnorth before ending up on its side.
The passengers and their driver escaped injury after the single-decker 297 Arriva bus left the A442 at Danesford, near the junction with Old Worcester Road, as it approached the town from the Kidderminster direction at around midday on Friday. So far no explanation has been given as to how the bus – which narrowly missed a road sign – ended up in the field. A spokesperson for Arriva said: “We’re aware of an incident where one of our vehicles entered a field which was level with the road surface. “As far as we were aware no passenger required hospital treatment although a first responder attended as a precautionary measure. “The vehicle was recovered with minimal damage. We are investigating the cause of the accident.” Alveley Community First Responders attended the scene as well as the police. Bizarrely it was one of two buses to end up off the road and in fields in Shropshire on the same day; up near Ellesmere another vehicle went down an embankment and into a field, where it came to rest on its side, after the driver took “evasive action” to avoid an oncoming lorry on the A528 at Whitemere, near Ellesmere.

Return of festive fair will boost church funds Christmas is coming to town with the return of a festive fair for people to scoop up seasonal gifts – and help raise funds for a good cause. The Bridgnorth Christmas Fayre returns on the first weekend of December for the local community and visitors to the town alike to pick up a special gift.
The event additionally raises money for St Leonard’s Church, which contributes to its maintenance and helps with any renovation work that needs doing. Penny Taylor, secretary for the Friends of St Leonard’s Church group, said around 40 craft stalls would be in attendance, as well as
stalls for bric-a-brac and books. There will also be a raffle and refreshments. She said the event was usually well-attended with up to 1,500 people coming along over the weekend. She is hoping for a similar turn out this year on Saturday, December 3, and Sunday 4.
