MOUNT MORGAN REMEMBERS

Mount Morgan paused to reflect and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. This year’s ANZAC Day commemorations were marked by deep community involvement, spanning two days and involving local schools and dignitaries in a poignant series of events. The commemorations began on the morning of Friday, 24 April, at the Central State School. Guest speaker Barry Lollback addressed the students, who participated actively in the ceremony by reciting poems of remembrance and laying wreaths. The spirit of reflection continued that afternoon at the Mount Morgan State High School. In a moving tribute, the service featured the reading of poetry and a performance of the iconic song “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda,” ensuring the younger generation remains connected to the history of the ANZACs. The traditional Dawn Service at Anzac Park saw a significant turnout, described by many as the bestattended service in years. The Member for Mirani, Glen Kelly, delivered the guest address.
