Gold Fever and Fresh Starts - Heritage Minerals Approaches the Finish Line The ochre-coloured dust of Mount Morgan has a way of staining everything it touches—boots, truck fenders, and the local history books.

For over a century, the “Golden Mount” was a titan of Australian industry, but when the last whistles blew in 1981, it left behind more than just memories. It left a massive environmental footprint:

millions of tonnes of tailings sitting in a landscape scarred by acid rock drainage. For years, the site was a cautionary tale. But today, if you stand near the edge of the old open cut, the air feels different. There’s a sense of momentum. Heritage Minerals isn’t just looking at Mount Morgan as a relic of the past, they’re treating it as the mine of the future.

The physical transformation of the site over the last few months has been enormous. What was once a quiet expanse of historic residue is now a hive of mechanical progress.
