Kumar transitioned into the presence of his Heavenly Father on August 31, 2026, at the age of 21. Born on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2004, Kumar was the beloved son of Vinnette Naomi Richardson and the grandson of the late Emma L. Collins Richardson and the late Samuel K. Richardson. Kumar spent his early formative years learning and growing in the South Orange & Maplewood School District in Maplewood, New Jersey, attending Marshall Elementary School, Seth Boyden Elementary School, and Maplewood Middle School. A dedicated and bright student, he graduated as an honors student from Columbia High School with the Class of 2023. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Kumar attended Montclair State University before transferring to Rowan University, where he had only three semesters remaining as a Computer Science major. Although he had a very laid-back disposition, his bright smile lit up every room he entered. Full of energy, determination, and passion, Kumar had a deep love for soccer (fútbol), music, fitness, technology, and was dedicated to becoming bilingual by learning Spanish. He dedicated himself to physical and mental discipline through martial arts, studying JiuJitsu at Bodega Jiu Jitsu in Maplewood, NJ, and Sheridan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Union, NJ. More importantly, Kumar’s spirit was sustained through his personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Kumar is survived by his devoted mother, Vinnette Naomi Richardson; his brother, Kurtis B. Richardson, Chanel Richardson [sister-in-love]; his closest friends, Zach Sands and Orion Samu; and his four cherished nieces and nephew, Nora, Keren, Autumn, and Kurtis Richardson Jr., who knew him as an amazing and loving uncle. He is also remembered with warmth and affection by a host of extended family, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers and grandfathers, his aunts Ernestine Richardson and Samantha V. Thompson [Joseph], and his uncle Samuel K. Richardson. Kumar’s vibrant spirit, curiosity, and kindness touched the lives of everyone around him, and his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
“Don’t Say Goodbye, Say So Long” Let my mom know she isn’t alone. Not by her strength or might, she will be strong. Keep praying for her is what I’m saying! Remind my brother, I’m his biggest fan. He carried me from a baby boy to a young man. Beyond the clouds I’m cheering him along. He will finish the race courageously strong. Thank my sis-in-love for her love and kindness all my life. Solid in her unwavering support , my brother has been blessed with a virtuous wife. Tell my nieces, nephew and cousins to stay the course. Press in and take their divine destiny by force. Assure my aunties, uncles and friends this isn’t the end. Joyfully, it is the beginning of my eternal story. Be kind, walk in love and I will meet you in eternal glory.
