Jonathan was a multi-talented artist, teacher, painter, sportsman, fashion designer, creative director, and proud father. It was in Middle School that his talents and skills came to the forefront. He was a member of the Nellie K. Parker Elementary School music group where he played the trombone and in his rst year of playing football, he was voted the MVP on the team During his years in High School from 2007– 2011, he was given the name ‘Blaze’ because he was so quick on his feet and so fast on the out eld. A er graduating High School, he went on to Rutgers University to study Psychology as his major. He was the wide receiver on the team and played among a number of guys who later went on to be NFL players. ough Jonathan was a preferred walk-on, and therefore got limited time on the eld, every time he had a chance to play, he demonstrated tremendous skill and potential.

But alas, despite his amazing talent, Jonathan’s heart was not on the football eld – deep down he was exploring his passion and purpose for the business of art and fashion. In 2014, at the age of 21, Jonathan o cially launched his career in the fashion industry by setting up his own company called Black Merchants $ociety (BM$) with his own distinctive brand and clothing line of street wear. is culminated in 2024 with the opening of a clothing store S8 in Union City, NJ with his two mates and business partners. Jonathan’s vision was not simply to produce exceptional and reasonably price street wear, but to ground his products and services in the history, culture, and consciousness of who we are as a people and race.

Jonathan was a phenomenal dad to his three beautiful daughters Mozell (8), Calliope (4), and Charlotte (18 months). ey were the apple of his eye and his drive to succeed. Jonathan believed in wealth creation and the building of generational wealth. at was the vision of the legacy he was cra ing for his kids. Jonathan was the consummate family man – he loved

his dad Nigel and his mom Christine and spared no words in expressing that to them – especially during the last year of his life. Yamerlin, his ancé and forever love held the key to his heart – vowing their relationship to be them against the world. Naomi whom he a ectionately called ‘Nae’ though three years apart was his virtual twin sister, nothing could come between them. He adored his Grandma (Icis) and Grandpa (Hugh) and was a wonderful nephew to Charmaine, Simone, Nicole, Joy, Ann, Jacqueline, Diane, Junior, Tony, Stephnie, Graham, Lena, Gregory, and many others. He was also an amazing friend to many including Cathy, Kwanelle, Cesar, Kehinde, Javard, Anthony, and Dominic; and was a trusted and valued business partner to Marco and Jon N. His life would be incomplete without the contribution of Nia (Mozell’s Mom) and his ancé Yamerlin (Calliope and Charlotte’s Mom).

On behalf of the Clarke, Bigby, Eastmond, Oliver, Good, Kerr, omas, Arias, Brown, and Carter families, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for every word of comfort and every expression of kindness during this time of bereavement and loss. We love you Jonathan – a bright light has been extinguished, a life ‘Gone too Soon.’ You will forever remain a memory of happiness in our lives.
