Set on one of the two commercial streets of the famous resort village, this 23,000 sq. ft. building of shops and offices was designed to offer a graceful street presence. A shaded arcade encourages the use of sidewalk cafes, and an octagonal turret marks the entrance to the gabled second story, reached via a skylit gallery. Cedar shingles left to weather, painted molded trim, multi-paned transoms and Palladian windows established further links to the rich architectural traditions of this community, leading one member of the highly protective Ladies Village Improvement Society to exclaim, “It’s a lovely thing.�
