The Fuel Land Allotment AGM took place on the 17th of September. A colourful array of fruit and vegetables from the allotment were on display as well as beautiful photos of the wildlife seen at the allotments. Carmel shared information on the composting loo installation and source of funding. The Finchley Charities is developing Plot 26 for residents’ use. This includes installing raised beds, a resting shed and making it more accessible for people with mobility needs. The Pavilion School are looking to support the project two afternoons per week and St Marys' RC Church in East Finchley are planning to grow food on the plot for their Food Bank. After the meeting many attendees enjoyed a fun BBQ, with allotment grown salads, homemade cakes and the opportunity to get to know other plot holders.
Autumn 2023
Barnet Council and Age UK Barnet are committed to make Barnet a borough which encourages healthy and active ageing to all its residents. This commitment acknowledges the wide range of capabilities and resources amongst our older population and intends to respond to these diverse needs by optimising opportunities for health, civic participation and safety within our community. By 2041, Barnet’s population of over 65s is expected to reach 93,807; a 57% increase from the 2021 Census report. As our population ages, we want to make sure that older people can have an active and valuable role within our community.
Silver Sunday The Finchley Charities Residents are invited to attend a week of events kick started with Silver Sunday which took place at Middlesex University on the 1st of October 2023. A number of residents attended this fun event and our stand was particularly busy.
