PROTEST LAB
During the development of the exhibition we created a Protest Lab. Providing multiple creative and playful opportunities for people to leave their symbols and words of protest on the walls. To share their thoughts, feelings, and expressions on issues that matter to them.
On these pages you can see some of the insightful responses that shaped the exhibition, and the beautiful and vibrant commissions from artist Bernie Rutter and designer Saria Digregorio.
PROTEST POSTCARDS
These questioning protest postcards were created in collaboration with student placement Shuk Yee in 2019. They were shared with school groups, visitors, people outside the museum, and communities across the city. We received 1,300 responses to the four provocations. Enjoy a selection of the responses here.
Drawing out from the comments that people wrote these were the main themes for each provocation: SHARE YOUR PROTEST SLOGAN Black Lives Matter Climate Change/environment/planet Children Everyone / Equality WHAT CAUSE WOULD YOU PROTEST ABOUT? Young people’ rights Black Lives Matter Climate change / Environment Animal rights / testing / abuse WHAT DOES PROTEST MEAN TO YOU? Making change Rights Change the world HOW DO YOU THINK PROTEST CAN CREATE CHANGE? Persuade / help people Persuade government Make world better
