It is an adaptable and extendable masterplan that seeks a re evaluation of lifestyles and is intended to change people’s relationship with the city and introduce the idea of circular economy and life cycles. There are many cyclical interchangeable structures in the new urban centre; where produce is grown, sold, used and waste from the site and surrounding area is brought to the Biomass unit for energy generation. Waste in allotments can also be sold as fertiliser to local farmers. One component of repositioning the waste system is the reimagining of space for the disposal of waste. Most public and residential spaces throw rubbish ‘out back’, creating unappealing and uninhabitable spaces. By changing how we view waste we can begin to celebrate waste and its uses and see it as an integral and positive part of our lives. Designing for future existence must be reliant on strategies implemented now. Buildings must be designed to be adaptable and not only fit with the needs of the times but be ready for reuse and adaption in the future, (rather than as transient structures that will eventually become obsolete and be replaced wholesale by something completely new.) When life, as we are all currently experiencing, is restricted to the home or we are quarantined to a limited occupation zone, the importance of selfsufficiency and sustainability, both personally and in wider society, is crucial. Throughout Stage 3 (20192020) I have begun to understand how our climate, sustainable living and design and a more holistic and circular and less linear view of building use can be developed. I have therefore found the practice of a circular economy a driving force in the planning blueprint for future city development.
