Nadia Rahman Lives in Dalston (London) Age 59 Special Needs primary School Teacher, Musician, Painter Playing trombone with “The Stamford Hill Billies” at Hackney Carnival At home with paintings Hot sweats, being dripping wet and getting really hot, it saved me on heating in the winter - I just wrapped a blanket around myself when it got cold. My periods stopped and I thought “I don’t have to buy sanitary products anymore” and then my daughter’s periods started. Freedom from periods - the bane of my life! The same time I was going through this time my daughter was leaving home, so I had to rediscover myself after devoting myself to my children for years. Like food for example, I’d forgotten what I liked. Sometimes my daughter would look at me and what I was wearing and I learnt to say “No, I want to wear this.” I learnt about self love in this period, and through loving myself I could really appreciate others. I watched a German video and it explained that there’s a male menopause called Andropause which I’m interested in. I’ve been interested in what affects hormones have on you for years. Mine had more affect on me in my fertile years - they were really strong. The fact that you can’t control them, and I allowed them to control my behaviour.
