SHIN GUARDS
SHINGUARD RANGE SHIN GUARD TESTING
Football is a contact sport and as such presents a number of hazards that cause injury. Shin guards cannot always prevent serious injury but are designed and developed to reduce the severity of abrasions and bruises to the player’s shin.
In Europe, shin guards that claim to offer protection to the player are considered to be intermediate category personal protective equipment and as such shin guards must be tested and marked; shin guards are tested against the BS EN 13061:2009 Standard. This standard assesses the shin guards for a range of properties, including impact resistance, comfort and ergonomic fit.

Need to add your club badge to your footballs? With Mitre it's easy. We can do a name or simplified badge for your football club. We would need to see the design prior to accepting the order.
For optimum results your logo should be a flat simplified shape (no gradients or intricate lines), supplied as a vector file. For artwork supplied flattened or raster format, such as JPG, BMP, TIF, an artwork fee will be charged for turning the supplied artwork into a usable design.
The example to the right shows how a logo may need to be simplified.

SOCKS
Our socks are made using high quality materials under strict quality control conditions. It should be noted that most fabrics discolour due to staining by substances such as mud and grass which may not be entirely removed by washing.
We recommend removing as much mud from the socks as possible before soaking/washing.
Follow detergent manufacturers’ instructions particularly with powders/ liquids designed for heavy stains. Avoid products containing chlorine bleach that may damage fabrics, trims and decoratives.
Soaking garments in water and detergent as soon as possible can reduce discolouration. Use at least an equal amount of water by volume to that of the garments being soaked/washed. Make sure all parts are fully immersed. Pale socks such as White, Yellow, Sky and Tangerine may require more attention and the use of pre-wash soakers will assist in the removal of stains. Socks will benefit from fabric conditioners and softeners.
Mitre will not accept liability for discolouration or damage to socks which is attributable to staining caused by elements foreign to the materials used in manufacture.
SHIN GUARDS
Mitre shin guards should be wiped clean using lukewarm water and be allowed
to dry naturally at room temperature. In order to prevent damage to the shin guard, do not place on hot surfaces such as radiators.
GOALKEEPER GLOVES
The latex rubber used to manufacture Mitre gloves is of the finest quality giving optimum performance in both wet and dry conditions. Please take great care as due to the soft nature of the material, we cannot guarantee protection against high and sustained abrasion.
To ensure the best grip, latex should be washed in warm water prior to first use. Never use detergents or soaps and never use water above 30ºC.
All latex palms should be moistened with clean, warm water before each use.
Hang gloves individually. Do not dry gloves in direct heat or near radiators.
FOOTBALLS
Care should be taken when inserting the inflation needle into the ball to prevent damaging the valve and bladder. Mitre Glycerine should be used to allow the needle to be inserted smoothly. This is particularly important on the initial inflation as the wall of the bladder can be punctured if the needle is pushed too far before the air is pumped in.

gradually lose air through the wall of the bladder, but temperature can also alter the pressure by 1 psi for every 10ºC.

DIFFERENT SURFACES
Astro Turf
There are many different types of Astro turf, from the pure synthetic fibre to filled fibre where fillings can vary from sand to ground rubber. All have one thing in common: they react with the ball like hard ground, increasing the bounce. Also many have much less drag/grip on the ball than natural turf. Because of this we normally recommend reduced ball pressure to 7-9 psi to slow down the ball and grain finish material to increase the drag.
A part worn shiny ball also gives this effect. Many artificial pitches are surrounded by fences and walls which can easily damage the ball so we highly recommend more economic balls to reduce the cost of replacing damaged balls.
Synthetic Surfaces
Asphalt and treated concrete. Not all synthetic surfaces are Astro turf. On most, abrasion is the main problem and we have
a range of economic training balls and high abrasion-resistant match balls which will cope with these surfaces.
Sports Hall
Wooden tiles, carpet and indoor pitches. All are dry so water absorption is not a problem, but the abrasiveness varies widely so it is important to consider this before recommending any particular ball. Some games have special requirements such as low or reduced rebound and Mitre has reduced rebound balls for Futsal, indoor and Futebol de Salâo.
Natural Turf
Natural turf pitches vary enormously in different countries, different seasons and different levels of play. As well as performance level we need to consider abrasion, water absorption and required use before recommending balls for natural turf. If the ball is to be used for training only, then economy and durability are most important; if to be used for a match or match practice, then performance is more important.
