The Associate in Arts (A.A.) is the smart start toward a bachelor’s degree. During the two-year program, students earn 60 credits. They take similar general education courses as freshman and sophomores at a university (only the classes are MUCH smaller than typical university lecture hall classes and MUCH more affordable). Students develop a solid educational foundation in small classes led by experienced professors and supported by hands-on advising and learning support services. Graduates of the A.A. go on to pursue bachelor’s degrees at CFK or transfer to another college or university. CFK has “2+2” partnerships with all of Florida’s public and 31 independent universities, as well as other institutions in the nation—making it easy to take the next step. All A.A. graduates are guaranteed admission to these universities, opening opportunities to pursue bachelor’s degrees in more than 200 different majors.

COURSEWORK In the A.A. program, students take the same courses that they would take as a freshman or sophomore at a university. The A.A. is comprised of 36 credit hours of general education courses, 18- 19 credit hours of elective courses, and 5-6 credit hours of special requirements—totaling 60 credits. YOUR BACHELOR’S DEGREE
CFK A.A. students are encouraged to think ahead from the very beginning. With guidance from their academic advisors, students develop their own Career Pathway/Bachelor’s Degree Plan. This plan aligns their work at CFK with a specific major or career at the college or university they want to attend. A.A. graduates may continue at CFK to earn a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management (Focus in Business Management or Hospitality) or a Bachelor of Science in Marine Resource Management. They also have the option to transfer to a university and fulfill their remaining bachelor’s degree requirements in one of hundreds of different major areas available. Before planning a major, students are advised to speak with an academic advisor and consult the catalog or the specific department at the university to which they plan to transfer and confirm which courses they should take at CFK.
GUARANTEED TRANSFER TO STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM All Florida state college Associate in Arts graduates are guaranteed admission to institutions in Florida’s State University System under the statewide Articulation Agreement. It’s important to note that guarantee of university admission does not guarantee admission to a limited access program. In a limited access program, the admissions requirements are more selective and may include a higher grade point average, higher test scores, auditions and/or portfolios. However, state college A.A. graduates have the same opportunity to enroll in these programs as students who began at the university.
