“Portrait of a Rambler” Defines Excellence in Boyne City Schools!

Why do our kids go to school? How do we prepare students for an everchanging world of work while teaching them to be good people? And how do we support every single child on their unique journey to graduation?

The answers to these questions form the foundation of our ongoing, communitywide initiative: The Portrait of a Rambler.

This framework defines six core attributes we are committed to developing in every student, from preschool to high school graduation. This journey began one year ago with collaborative brainstorming sessions involving community members, Board of Education members, and our dedicated staff. We also gathered vital feedback through community surveys and student focus groups to ensure our Rambler culture supports the development of kids of all ages, ability levels, and interests.

Capital Improvement Update

Your Investment in Our Students: Bond Progress Report!

The Boyne community's incredible support for our students continues to amaze us! Thank you for approving the 2025 Bond—a pivotal step in upgrading our schools and enriching the educational experience for every Rambler.

Here is a look at where your tax dollars are at work:

Summer 2026 Progress

• Safety & Security: New communication upgrades have been installed across all four buildings, including every classroom and hallway.

• Earl Brotherston Field: Brand-new bleachers, a modern press box, and upgraded field lights are now in place.

• Classroom Furniture: All-new student furniture has arrived for grades Kindergarten through 4th grade.

• Technology Refreshes: New

devices and tech upgrades are ready for students in Kindergarten, 5th grade, and 9th grade, alongside new technology and coordinated programming in the High School auditorium.

• Energy Efficiency: Bright, energyefficient LED lighting has been installed in the HS Commons, HS Gym, and MS Gym.

• Transportation: A new bus equipped with wheelchair access is now in service to support students with mobility needs.

Recently Started

• Vocational Additions: We have officially broken ground on our new vocational wings! This space will serve our Culinary, Building Trades, and Electrical Lineman students. This major project is targeted for completion in December 2027.

Still in Design

• Elementary Remodeling & Addition: Plans are underway for a new classroom wing featuring four new classrooms to address current space and configuration constraints. Once this large-scale project is complete, the Board of Education and district leadership will evaluate remaining funds to address additional needs and wants across the district.

A Vital Reminder: These crucial improvements are the result of a “Zero Tax Rate Increase” bond. Your property tax rate will not change as a result of these projects.

What’s next for BCPS at the Ballot Box

Regional Enhancement Millage Supports Educational Opportunities

Like all school districts and ISDs across Michigan, Boyne City Public Schools and Charlevoix-Emmet ISD rely on community support to maintain operational excellence. In May 2027, voters will be asked to consider renewing the Regional Enhancement Millage (REM).

The REM is a 10-year millage shared among all 11 public school districts and charter schools in the CharlevoixEmmet ISD. Funds are distributed to local districts on a per-pupil basis. Each school board retains full control over how the allocated funds are invested, ensuring they meet the specific needs of each community.

Since its inception, the REM has been a powerful investment in our students.

Three key investments among many include:

• Early Childhood Education: We have expanded our Early Learners program from 30 to 115 students, providing high-quality, accessible preschool to local families.

• College & Career Readiness: We leverage REM funds to support dualenrollment partnerships with North Central Michigan College, allowing our high schoolers to earn college credits early—saving families thousands of dollars.

• Hands-On Learning: The everpopular middle school Woodshop elective courses and the high school Drafting/CAD courses have been financially supported by the REM.

Boyne City Board of Education Members Seek Re-Election

District Thanks Outgoing Trustee

The Boyne City Public Schools Board of Education will have two familiar names on the ballot as current board members Joel Schraw and Mary Towne have announced they are seeking re-election. Both have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting students, staff, and the continued success of Boyne City Public Schools through their dedicated service and leadership.

As the district looks ahead, Boyne City Public Schools would also like to extend its sincere appreciation to Sara Ward, who is concluding six years of dedicated service on the Board of Education. Throughout her tenure, Sara has been a steadfast advocate for students, families, and the school community. Her thoughtful leadership, commitment to

educational excellence, and willingness to serve have made a lasting impact on the district.

The district is grateful for the time, energy, and dedication of all its Board of Education members, whose service helps guide Boyne City Public Schools in providing exceptional educational opportunities for every student.

Beyond these programs, the REM allows us to prioritize safety upgrades, technology, transportation, and facility improvements. This millage is an investment in our region’s future and a testament to our community’s commitment to education. We appreciate your ongoing support as we prepare for this important decision in May 2027.

A request to renew this vital millage will come before voters in May 2027.

Rambler Arts

The Arts play a critical role in deepening a sense of common purpose that is core to a strong community.

The Boyne City Middle School Drama Department delighted audiences with its outstanding production of Annie Jr., showcasing the incredible talent, dedication, and hard work of its student performers and production team.

Over the course of several months, students committed countless hours to rehearsals, learning choreography, memorizing lines, and working together to bring the beloved musical to life. From the opening scene to the final curtain call, the cast captivated audiences with energetic performances, memorable songs, and heartfelt storytelling.

The production highlighted not only the students’ talents on stage but also the teamwork and creativity that took place behind the scenes. Student crew members, along with dedicated staff and volunteers, worked tirelessly to create sets, costumes, lighting, and sound that transformed the stage into the world of Annie.

Boyne City Middle School and Director Susanne March extend their sincere appreciation to the families, volunteers, staff, and community members whose encouragement and support helped make this production a tremendous success. Their commitment to the arts continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students to grow both on and off the stage.

The Boyne City Band program continues to inspire audiences while providing students with meaningful opportunities to grow as musicians, leaders, and ambassadors for their school and community. This year, 32 students participated in the Boyne City Band program, showcasing their dedication to music and their commitment to representing their school with pride. From concerts and community events to athletic performances and special celebrations, the bands proudly represent Boyne City Public Schools with professionalism, school spirit, and pride.

Four Boyne City band students earned the distinguished honor of performing at the State Solo & Ensemble Festival, a testament to their exceptional talent, dedication, and countless hours of preparation.

Under the guidance of their dedicated director, Brandon Ivie, students develop not only their musical abilities but also valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, responsibility, and perseverance. Every rehearsal and performance reflects the hard work and determination of students who continually strive to improve while supporting one another.

Congratulations to all of the Boyne City band students and director Brandon Ivie on another outstanding year. Your dedication, talent, and commitment to excellence continue to make Boyne City Public Schools proud.

All 16 events earned a First or Second Division rating, with almost every participating student earning at least one First Division and most students earning more than one.

We believe that the experiences learned on the playing fields teach invaluable life lessons.

Rambler Athletes: Stepping Up and Leading On!

As each new season kicks off, we see incredible growth in our student-athletes. Our seniors embrace the challenge of becoming new leaders, stepping into significant roles and setting the example for younger players. This same spirit of growth is evident in our middle schoolers, many of whom are experiencing competitive sports for the first time. It's inspiring to witness their journey! The tradition of excellence in Boyne City athletics is alive and well.

The Rambler Boys Golf Team made their first appearance at the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals since 2022, marking an impressive achievement for the program. After earning a Regional qualification, the team competed among the state’s best and finished 17th overall, capping off a successful season filled with hard work, determination, and teamwork. Congratulations to Coach Zach Zondlo on guiding these student athletes.

Congratulations to Cameron Little, Connor Uy, Drew Neer, Cooper Vizina, and Tanner Sigulinsky on an outstanding season representing Boyne City with pride and sportsmanship.

Student Athletic Participation Data 2025/2026

History has been made for Boyne City Softball!

The Boyne City Ramblers earned their first-ever Regional Championship, marking a milestone achievement for the program and an unforgettable moment for the team, coaches, families, and the entire Rambler community.

Throughout the season, the Ramblers demonstrated determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to one another. Their hard work on the field, countless hours of practice, and dedication to improving every day culminated in a championship run that will be remembered for years to come.

This historic accomplishment reflects more than just wins on the scoreboard. It showcases the character, teamwork, and perseverance that define Boyne City athletics. Every player contributed to the team’s success, embracing their role and supporting one another through every inning. Guided by their coaching staff, the Ramblers played with confidence, grit, and pride while representing Boyne City with class.

Volunteers are a huge part of making our sports teams so great! Many community members volunteer their time as coaches, while others help the athletic department by taking tickets, running the score board, or keeping stats for the team. Community Partnerships

These collaborations bridge the gap between classrooms and the real world. By pooling shared resources, these initiatives enhance student learning, expand extracurricular activities, and provide vital support systems for youth and their families

Boyne City Shoe Club is looking forward to year two this fall! Shoe Club is open to all 7th & 8th graders. The mission of Shoe Club is to Value Yourself & Value Others. Members learn how to dream big, set goals, work hard, and give back.

In our inaugural year, we raised over $5,000, held a canned food drive for our local food pantries, gave back to our community via Random Acts of Kindness, took a trip to MSU, met

Mike Tirico from NBC Sports, held a bowl-a-thon, visited the sand dunes, empowered members with our Valuable Mindset lessons, and more!

Boyne District Library—Partner Spotlight

Like the Bookmobile, this Lending Machine is a forward thinking way for our community to bring books to kids and promote literacy. Students will both checkout and return public library books at anytime the high school commons is open to the public. Thank you to the Library Board and Friends of the Boyne District Library.
