PRE-SCHOOL 3-5 YEARS
These early formative years can shape a child’s future attitude to learning, and here at Gidea Park College our aim is that pupils look forward to every day. Our children learn mostly through play and the Pre-School is a bright and cheerful place, always alive with chatter and concentrated activity. We identify individual strengths and recognise potential concerns at an early stage to ensure that every child is supported to achieve their very best. Your child will have a specific learning plan, created according to their ability and progress in seven key areas including Communication and Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Expressive Arts and Design.

PRE-PREP SCHOOL 5-7 YEARS
Children join us at age 5 from the Pre-School and elsewhere. They quickly settle in together, exploring their surroundings and making new friends in this happy community. Children are eager to learn and are stimulated by the broad-based curriculum, encouraging them to embrace their natural curiosity. Continuing to follow the EYFS 7 target points, the curriculum has been carefully structured to ensure that the children can progress seamlessly from learning through play to more formal lessons. We seek to identify and support all pupils whatever their ability, including those who are deemed to be gifted or talented as well as those who would benefit from Learning Support. P R E P A R AT O RY S C H O O L 7-11 YEARS
Once they move into the Prep School the children are immersed into the full curriculum, where they will have access to a broad range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, French and the Humanities. In the Prep School, the emphasis changes subtly as pupils are encouraged to develop their learning skills and more attention is given to discussion and individual opinions. Pupils will also learn the art of careful listening, an essential skill in all aspects of school life and beyond. Creativity and imagination are fostered through music and the arts, which are infused into the daily life of the school. Sport also plays an important part in the school week, with a mix of timetabled team activities such as football, netball and various individual House events. With so much variety and a high level of individual support and pastoral care, the children thrive and the atmosphere in the Prep School is always busy, happy and productive.

C U R R I C U L U M O V E RV I E W At Gidea Park College we endeavour to both challenge and motivate our pupils in all areas of the broad-based, carefully structured curriculum. We strive to provide varied and stimulating lessons through which all our pupils will become intellectually inquisitive independent learners. Most subjects are taught to a single year group in small-sized classes; this enables our highly trained staff to provide individual attention to pupils of all abilities. The Core subjects are enriched by additional subjects such as Languages, the Arts, Drama and Physical Education. Pupils are encouraged, in all areas of the curriculum, to ask questions, to learn how to think independently, listen with understanding and communicate with confidence. Lessons are taught by teachers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge, exploring new ideas and instilling a life-long thirst for learning.

T H E A RT S Art and Design lessons are taught through demonstration, experimentation and practice in small groups and provide an opportunity for pupils to showcase their creativity. At Gidea Park College we believe that PE for all should be an integral part of the education programme we provide. It is our belief that all pupils benefit from a sports curriculum which fosters physical awareness, mental well-being and team spirit. We want all pupils to have the chance to enjoy a broad music education and they will be introduced to a wide range of music. Music is also available to pupils as an extra-curricular activity. All children are involved in drama, using games, exercises and improvisation to develop creativity, imagination, thinking, speaking and listening skills. Performance helps develop confidence, and every pupil is encouraged to become involved in a drama or musical performance.

W R A PA RO U N D C A R E We also offer flexible wrapround care starting at 8.00am in the morning, prior to the start of the school day. At the end of the day, activities are available and the wraparound care provision, if required, runs until 6.00pm. There is a wide range of clubs and activities available each day, including chess, fencing, Lego and many others. There is so much to enjoy at Gidea Park College it is a happy place to learn!
