As this will be my first and last year serving Key Club, I wanted to make as big of an impact as possible… which is why I’ve spent this last summer developing MIT Academy’s new club website and club newsletter! It’s been a pleasure pouring my heart out into these two projects, and I’m excited for you all to see what else I have in store for this term ;) Drafting this debut issue was no easy task, especially because I wanted to cover all of this term’s summer events into our Articles & Visuals, as well as repurpose our Instagram officer introduction for this milestone; hopefully these editorial decisions make for an intriguing read on your end! Our board has some exciting things planned for you all this year… but in the meantime, get ready for Fall Rally North on October 17 and start pre-ordering D8W’s new t-shirts! I’m super excited for you all to wear my design :D To my Griffins: I know our campus has undergone some major changes with the merging of MIT Academy’s middle and high schools. For the first two weeks our board decided not to host a meeting as we all accommodate to our new campus culture. Once we get situated, we’ll be meeting in Ms. Perry’s new room, EV-3. MIT Academy joined members from American Canyon in the second Division Wide Service Event (DWES) of the year: a clean-up at a small community garden near American Canyon Middle School. Led by Key Club parents and garden groundskeepers, we learned a bit about garden maintenance including how to remove different types of weeds and determine the ripeness of different fruits. Besides a short brunch break, we spent the entire morning weeding the main flowerbeds, harvesting apples and tomatoes from the area, and tidying the layout. We were joined by a few volunteers not affiliated with Key Club, which created an insightful work experience for all participants. While there was a low turnout, it was at no detriment to the gardening experience that our few volunteer gardeners took away from this DWES!

On behalf of Kiwanis, we served food to participants of the 2026 Relay for Life led by the American Cancer Society (ACS), hosted on the track of St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School. After learning a bit about the event, we returned to the Kiwanis food trailer and prepared dinner: some officers cut bread loaves while others organized the service station. Finally, we had the pleasure of serving bread, salad, and pasta to over 100+ runners, vendors, Kiwanis affiliates, and general attendees. This service deepened connections not just between our Key Club officers, but also with our local organizations that are fighting for the hope, care, and love that brings our community closer together.

Key Club officers from across Division 8 reconvened at Fairfield Cordelia Library to participate in a new training conference: DYP-TC. Lieutenant Governors Evan Magno and Londyn Vidaurry led an informative session on how Key Club funds are collected, distributed, and returned to Key Club members through events and senior scholarships. To kickstart the conference, though, they led an exciting icebreaker, which made for an immersive and engaging training conference that taught officers a myriad of important skills, such as how to run a successful fundraiser and how to budget, as well as how to engage others with the financial aspect of Key Club–which our lieutenant governors did wonderfully!
