ABOUT US

Family owned and operated since 1972, Schlegel Greenhouse was founded by Louis F. Schlegel and continues today under the care of his son Paul, wife Marsha, and their son Caleb. Paul also revived the historic Hoosier Boy brand, honoring the legacy of Indianapolis’ south-side greenhouse growers.

From spring pansies to holiday poinsettias, Hoosier Boy brings beauty to every season.

We’re always on the hunt for new and exciting varieties to grow. We have worked hard to integrate the newest introductions and improved varieties into our line-up. While we continue to produce traditional favorites, we also challenge ourselves to innovate—developing new solutions that reflect today’s evolving lifestyles and demographic shifts.

What are we learning?

Many aging consumers are downsizing but still crave the joy of gardening. For them, combination planters offer the perfect “contained meadow” — a vibrant, garden-style experience in a manageable space.

Younger consumers are drawn to that same natural aesthetic, favouring a slightly wild, unstructured look over the formal styles of previous generations. They appreciate unusual color and texture pairings—antiqued pinks, soft apricots, and unexpected greens. (Yes, everyone seems to be intrigued by green flowers these days!)

Attracting pollinators has also become a growing focus for gardeners of all ages. Our interpretation of this trend is to grow plants that truly give back—supporting bees, birds, and butterflies alike. You’ll see this reflected across our offerings, from baskets and combo planters to 4.5” pots. We believe beauty and productivity can thrive together in creative new ways.

Pollinator Power

Attracting pollinators is a big focus for us this year. As spring approaches, many new pollinator-friendly combos and baskets will be rolling out—featuring nectar-rich favorites like Angelonia, Lantana, Ageratum, Salvia, Zinnias, and Cuphea. Hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and other pollinators will all be drawn to these vibrant blooms, bringing movement and life to any garden or patio.

How to order

All orders should be placed online at HoosierBoy.com, where current availability is always updated. Checkout is quick and easy: meet the delivery minimum, choose your delivery date, and you’re set.

What we sell

From pansies to poinsettias, our line-up spans early spring, spring/summer, fall, and holiday annuals—bringing fresh color to every season. Plus, we offer a wide and ever-changing selection of houseplants available year-round.

Where do we ship?

We deliver throughout the state of Indiana—and into Louisville and the greater Dayton area. All orders must meet delivery minimums and applicable delivery fees. See page 22 for details about our delivery policy.

Shopping policies

HOUSEPLANTS: We welcome in-house shopping and pickups during designated hours. It’s always best to call ahead and schedule an appointment.

ANNUALS: Walk-ins and on-site shopping are not permitted for annuals. Please place all annual orders online. Annual Order Pickups available during designated hours.

DELIVERY POLICY

We strive to provide timely and cost-effective delivery services. Below is our delivery policy to ensure transparency and equity for all our customers.

Standard Delivery Zones

We offer delivery to the following areas as part of our normal routes:

Zone 1 Marion and surrounding counties, IN

Delivery Fee: $80

Zone 2 As far south as Bloomington & Nashville, IN (I-69 & 1-35)

Delivery Fee: $100

Zone 3 As far east as Dayton, OH (I-70)

Delivery Fee: $150

Zone 4 As far south as Louisville, KY (I-65)

Delivery Fee: $120

Order Minimums (April 27–May 31):

Zones 1 and 2: $2,000 minimum order for delivery. Zones 3, and 4: $3,000 minimum order for delivery.

Extended Delivery Zones

For areas outside our Standard Zones, we apply a flat fee or a per-mile surcharge: Flat Fee: $150 for orders within 50 miles outside Standard Zones. Per-Mile Surcharge: $1.50 per mile beyond Standard Zones (calculated from 705 Sprague Street, Indianapolis, IN).

Flexibility

for Extended Zones:

Customers in Extended Zones will need to remain flexible as to when they receive delivery. We strive to bundle customers together to maximize efficiency, and specific delivery dates may not always be available.

Special Delivery Requests

Deliveries outside of Standard and Extended Zones will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Additional fees and scheduling flexibility may apply.

Consolidated Delivery Days

To reduce costs for Extended Zone deliveries, we may consolidate orders to specific delivery days. Customers will be notified in advance.

Order Lead Time

Delivery orders must be placed at least five business days in advance to ensure scheduling availability.
