In August, the Women Golf Association members played the Triple Crown, a two-person team game with three 6-hole sections: One Best Ball of Team; Straight Scramble; and Pinehurst This format gives teams a fun and challenging way to play golf. First place winner was the team of Ginny Breuer and Wendy Patterson pictured here.

Members of the 18-hole league are swinging into September as they get ready to play the final major of the 2024 season. The 2-day Handicap Tournament will be played on September 10 and 17. This is an individual stroke play format and winners in each flight are determined by the lowest two-day net score In addition, the overall tournament winner will be the player with the lowest two-day score The last game of the month will be the 150 Twist which will combine 9- and 18-holers
If you are interested in joining the WGA, please contact New Member Chair, Linda Daniels, at 860-334-5214 or ldaniels7952@gmail.com. Linda will be happy to help you become a member of the 18-hole Women’s Golf Association (WGA).

On July 12, 2024 was the MGA Flag tournament on the Creek course. Each player got 72+handicap strokes to play, then planted their flag where the last shot finished The winner was Ken Harden, who made it onto the 19th hole
The “4 clubs & a putter” event was on August 2 on the Lake course; this was a fun, challenging event that made you realize you really don’t need all those clubs in the bag! The winner was Mike Rupkalvis
On August 23 was the Chicago Points event where you earn points for your net score on each hole; this event was on. The winner was Don Imbriale
In September we have our 3rd major of the year – the Governor’s Trophy. This is a 2man team event, best ball. On Friday September 6, 2024 is the stroke play qualifier where the top 8 teams move on to single-elimination match play the following week.
The MGA board is working with CTCC staff to try to reschedule the 2-man par 3 tournament that was postponed due to weather We’re hoping to play this on Saturday September 28, 2024 and this event is open to all men golfers. More details will follow.
If you have questions or just want to discuss anything about the MGA, please feel free to email the board at mga.at.ctcc@gmail.com or contact one of the officers.

The data that I have collected of the past 50,000 lessons that I’ve given shows that more than 50% of golfers think that the club is supposed to go under the ball to make it go in the air Although that seems logical, it’s not rational That would be like putting a sponge between a baseball bat and the ball or between a tennis racket and the ball think about it
-Let’s understand the starting point of the “DIVOT” (the tuft of grass that goes flying when pros and great ball strikers hit the ground during the golf swing).
-If your club is trying to get under the ball to help it in the air, and you make a divot, it’s most likely that you think the club should enter the ground (making a divot) one to two inches before the club gets to the ball WRONG!!!
-The club enters the ground AFTER it hits the ball when making a proper divot WOW!
-How??? When golf balls are struck properly and a divot is made AFTER hitting the ball, the golfer’s hands were in front of the ball at the moment of impact. TWO KEYS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN
1.
Shift your weight to the leg closest to the target during the downswing BEFORE hitting the ball.
2.
Place the ball AT LEAST in the middle of your stance, or behind center.
Have Fun! Hit it more solidly! Keep it down the middle!

Executive Chef

½ pound of bacon
¾ cup Onions (diced small)
¾ cup Celery (diced small)
½ cup Green Peppers (diced small)
½ cup Red Peppers (diced small)
½ cup of flour
2 quarts of chicken stock
2 cans of creamed corn
2 pounds of frozen corn
2 pounds of peeled and diced potatoes
1 bay leaf
1 pint of heavy cream
1 pint of milk
Salt and pepper
Tabasco
Worcestershire
Cook Bacon: In a large soup pot or Dutch oven, cook the bacon until it's as crispy as you like. Remove and drain the bacon but leave the bacon fat in the pot.
Cook Vegetables: Add onions, celery, and peppers to the pot. Cook until the onions are translucent.
Make Roux: Slowly add flour to the vegetables and stir to combine, forming a roux
Add Stock: Gradually whisk in the chicken stock, making sure to smooth out any lumps
Add Ingredients: Stir in the creamed corn, frozen corn, potatoes, and bay leaf
Simmer: Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes
Finish Soup: Mix cream and milk together, then add to the soup Remove the bay leaf
Season and Garnish: Season with salt, pepper, Tabasco, and/or Worcestershire sauce to taste. Garnish with the cooked bacon.
Fall is coming soon! To me, that means soup. Let’s start off with an old goodie from my school days.

The secret to stronger workouts: don’t forget your stabilizers and tendons When it comes to fitness, it’s easy to focus on the big muscles we can see. But what about the smaller, less glamorous stabilizers and tendons that make every movement possible? These unsung heroes are crucial for balance, strength, and injury prevention.
Stabilizer muscles are like your body’s support crew They help keep your joints stable and your posture solid, especially during exercises like squats or push-ups Strong stabilizers mean better balance and more efficient workouts
Then there are tendons the tough, flexible tissues that connect muscles to bones They might not get much attention, but healthy tendons are key to avoiding injuries and keeping your body moving smoothly.
So, how can you give these important parts of your body some love? Start by incorporating stability exercises like planks and single-leg movements into your routine. Focus on slow, controlled motions, especially during the lowering phase of a lift, to strengthen tendons And don’t forget about recovery your tendons need time to repair and stay strong
By paying attention to your stabilizers and tendons, you ’ re not just working out smarter you ’ re setting yourself up for long-term success A strong foundation leads to better performance, fewer injuries, and a healthier, more resilient body.
