Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. celebrates 115 years with Hoan Bridge lighting On Sunday, January 15, 2023, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) Epsilon Kappa Omega (EKΩ) Milwaukee Chapter celebrated the 115th anniversary of their sorority by lighting the Hoan Bridge. Nearly 200 of the 385 members of the Epsilon Kappa Omega Milwaukee Chapter Photos by Yvonne Kemp showed up for the bridge lighting. EKΩ Chapter is the first alumnae chapter that was chartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 11, 1949. Since its inception, the chapter has made significant strides in Milwaukee with award-winning programs for K-12 students, preparatory workshops for parents and their college-bound children, and community enrichment programs to help build a strong economic legacy. EKΩ Membership Committee Chair Anesia Hayes said, "We are so excited to celebrate today because this marks the 115th year of scholarship, service, and sisterhood for this illustrious organization. What better way to light up Milwaukee, than to do it with PINK and GREEN lights on the Hoan Bridge!" National Black Nurse Association chapter hosts installation ceremony

Thursday January 12, 2023, The Milwaukee Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) hosted their installation celebration for their 2023 president and officers at Four Points Sheraton, 8900 N. Kildeer Ct. The local chapter was chartered in 1980 and has played an active role in Milwaukee as a forum for advocacy and implementation strategies that address health equity issues impacting underserved and underrepresented populations. They work to accomplish this through collaboration with private and public agencies and the community. They are also committed to excellence in nursing education and research, and over the years have awarded more than $500,000 in nursing scholarships. The Milwaukee Chapter of the NBNA is one of 125 local chapters that comprise their national body. The NBNA was organized in 1971 as a non-profit organization and represents approximately 200,000 African American nurses from the USA, Canada, Eastern Caribbean, and Africa.
