Welcome to Disney’s The Lion King

On behalf of the Morrison Center, we are so glad you’re here. It’s an honor to bring you this treasured musical, one that has moved audiences worldwide through its powerful storytelling, music, and imagination.

I still remember the first time I saw Disney’s The Lion King at its Los Angeles premiere in 2000, just after the Pantages Theatre reopened. I was working for Disney at the time and had no idea what to expect. The opening number had me in tears, and it still gives me goosebumps. That feeling has stayed with me ever since, and it’s why I believe everyone deserves the chance to experience this extraordinary work at least once in their lifetime. That belief is also why we are proud to offer a special school performance at no cost, made possible by the generosity of our donors and supporters. Soon, nearly 2,000 students will fill our main hall, many experiencing their very first Broadway show. There is nothing quite like witnessing that spark of wonder, and it’s moments like these that remind us why arts access matters.

This commitment is at the heart of our Arts Education programs, including the Patty Duke Theater Program, Broadway Bridges, and many others that serve audiences of all ages across Idaho. Expanding access to live performance isn’t just part of what we do—it’s central to who we are.

Since its Broadway debut in 1997, Disney’s The Lion King has become one of the most successful and beloved musicals of all time. The production last visited Boise in 2016, and now a new generation has the opportunity to experience its magic firsthand.

Directed by Julie Taymor, the first woman to win a Tony Award® for Best Director of a Musical, the production is renowned for its breathtaking visual design, featuring more than 200 puppets, masks, and sculptural elements that blend traditional African art with innovative stagecraft. Paired with the iconic music of Elton John and Tim Rice, the result is a theatrical experience that is both grand and deeply moving.

Whether this is your first journey to the Pride Lands or a long-awaited return, we’re delighted to welcome you. Thank you for supporting a community that values creativity, education, and the shared joy of live performance.
