hank you for joining us for Always…Patsy Cline at the Grand Theatre. An audience favorite, this is the seventh time Patsy Cline has been brought to life on our stage. While showcasing her greatest hits, this production looks back on the country singing legend and gives an impression of what she meant to so many. Filled with humor, true emotion, and the story of a relationship any fan would dream of having with their idol, Always…Patsy Cline is sure to have you humming along to the songs made famous by one of the greatest female vocalists of all time.
Salt Lake Community College and the Grand Theatre are delighted to continue serving as the community’s home for theatrical productions, musical and dance performances, engaging screenings, and culturally significant offerings. m excited to welcome you to the Grand Theatre’s 2017-18 season, which we’re starting off with the Grand’s signature production, Always…Patsy Cline. I’ve had the good fortune to direct each of our productions of this show, and always with the incomparable Erica Hansen as Patsy. I recall the audition process the first time we did the production. I asked those auditioning to prepare the song Crazy, and three notes into the song and I knew Erica was our Patsy. Her portrayal of one of America’s greatest musical icons is remarkable and as you will see, unforgettable! Thank you Erica! Joining Erica this time around is Dawn Veree as the memorable Louise. Dawn has been with the Grand for many productions and we are pleased she could join us for this show. Her Louise is vibrant, erratic and as genuine as the music of Patsy Cline. She and Erica will present a remarkable theatrical experience, so sit back and enjoy! Special thanks to Seth Miller and the production team and the Grand Theatre staff for their remarkable work and effort on their continued contribution to the cultural fabric of our community. This musical shares the story of one of country music’s brightest stars and her unforgettable connection with a fan. We’re excited to serve as the largest Salt Lake City venue for the annual Sundance Film Festival, where you can join fellow film lovers to appreciate the very best cinema from around the world. e are thrilled to announce the return of Erica Hansen as Patsy Cline in Always… Patsy Cline – the 7th time the Grand Theatre has produced this audience favorite! Written by Ted Swindley, Always… Patsy Cline is a two-woman show based on the true story of Patsy Cline’s friendship with Houston housewife, Louise Seger, played this year by Dawn Veree. Packed with 27 of Cline’s greatest hits, including “Crazy,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” and “Sweet Dreams,” fans will rediscover forgotten tunes and walk away humming new ones. Hansen’s portrayal of the country legend has garnered both critical acclaim as well as captured the hearts of Grand Theatre goers time and again. ABOUT the PLAY Synopsis Meet Louise Seger, a Texas housewife who first hears Patsy Cline on the televised Arthur Godfrey show in 1957. Patsy sings, “Walkin’ After Midnight” and Louise becomes a fan for life. Four years later Louise hears Patsy again, this time on the radio singing, “I Fall to Pieces.” Louise is so taken with the song that she begins calling the local radio station and asking them to play “I Fall to Pieces” every day. One day a tired out disc jockey tells Louise that Patsy is coming to town to perform at the Esquire Ballroom. Louise is ecstatic and takes her friends to see the show, arriving several hours early so they can get the best seats in the house. By chance, Patsy arrives early and spends part of the evening with Louise and her crew. Patsy sings many of her trademark tunes, including, “Sweet Dreams.” Patsy and Louise continue their friendship by letter until 1963.
About the Author Author and playwright Ted Swindley’s production of Always...Patsy Cline premiered in New York City in June of 1997. As a Founding Artistic Director of the Stages Repertory Theater in Houston, Texas, Mr. Swindley has directed many theatrical productions. These include, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Our Town. His musical, Honkey Tonk Angels is playing around the country. Currently, Mr. Swindley directs his own production company, Ted Swindley Productions and he continues to write.
About Patsy Cline Born Virginia Patterson Henley in 1932 in Winchester, Virginia, Patsy survived a hardscrabble childhood to become the “Queen of Country Music”. Despite early setbacks in her musical career, Patsy rose to stardom with her hits, “Crazy” and “I Fall to Pieces”. She made appearances on American Bandstand, The Johnny Cash show and spent time performing at the Grand Ole Opry. Her recordings were later covered by musicians such as Elvis Costello, Don Everly and Emmylou Harris. In March of 1963, her career ended suddenly. Despite her short career, Pasty left country music with a legacy, influencing later singers such as Reba McEntire. Patsy was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1973. Her life is the subject of the 1985 feature film, Sweet Dreams, starring Jessica Lange.

WHO’S WHO in the CAST ERICA HANSEN (Patsy) is no stranger to local audiences, having been a performer for most of her life. This return engagement of the audiencefavorite, Always… Patsy Cline is the 7th time Erica has played the country legend at The Grand Theatre, to critical and popular acclaim; breaking box office records, garnering standing ovations and, most rewarding for Erica, creating a renewed interest in Patsy Cline and her music. Erica played Cline in Logan as part of the Old Lyric Repertory Company season to sold-out houses. She and her fantastic band also offer a Patsy Cline Tribute Show, performing throughout the region including the Heber Valley Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival and the Ed Kenley Amphitheater in Layton, among others. She has also enjoyed writing, producing and performing shows for the Backstage at the Grand series: The Music of Peggy Lee, All About Love, and most recently, Broadway Classics. Erica also created and performed an evening of song, singing the music of The Carpenters, Carole King and Linda Ronstadt as part of the Summer Nights with the Stars at the Ed Kenley in Layton. Erica sings many other genres, including jazz standards, and has been invited to sing at numerous galas and fundraisers throughout the state. Some of her other stage credits include Marian in The Music Man, Eliza in My Fair Lady and Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, to
name a few. Erica’s voice can be heard in radio commercials up and down the dial. During the day she works in marketing at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. She never tires of singing Patsy’s music, she has a new favorite song each night and couldn’t feel more blessed for the people and experiences this role has afforded. OXOX DAWN VEREE (Louise) is tickled pink to be back on stage at the Grand, after having appeared in Hairspray, The Full Monty and Young Frankenstein. Dawn has had the pleasure of performing locally with Utah Repertory Theatre, Hale Center Theatre, the Covey Center for the Arts, and will be singing her 6th season as a chorister with the Utah Opera. Favorite roles have included Kost/Lulu in Cabaret, Vicki in The Full Monty, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, the Witch in Into the Woods, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, and a tour as the lead singer on the cruise ship ms. Royal Odyssey. Dawn sings locally as the section leader at First Baptist Church, and is a selftaught beaded jewelry designer with her work for sale at the local gallery Evergreen Framing Co. and Gallery. Dawn wishes to thank the cast, crew, musicians and production team at the Grand Theatre for their excellent work and loving support. Love Always!

WHO’S WHO in the CREATIVE STAFF ADAM DAY (Sound Design) has a BFA in Performing Arts Design from the University of Utah. Some of his recent credits include sound design for Hairspray, A Streetcar Named Desire, Jekyll & Hyde, Young Frankenstein, and Little Shop of Horrors (The Grand Theatre); Bring It On, Cats, American Idiot (U of U Theatre Department); Climbing With Tigers (SLAC), Lost in the Woods (Flying Bobcat Theatrical Laboratory), and Exodus (NOW-ID). He also works as the Technical Coordinator at the Draper City Amphitheater where he has been for the last eight seasons.

CAROLINE CAIN (Stage Manager) is a graduate of the University of Utah with her BFA in Stage Management. Caroline has worked for the Grand Theatre since 2008 and during that time has stage managed Hairspray, Comedy of Errors, Jekyll and Hyde, The Full Monty, Young Frankenstein, Always…Patsy Cline (2015), Skin of Our Teeth, Forever Plaid (2014), Rings, Not the Messiah (2013, 2014), and Heat; production stage managed Our Town and assistant stage managed The Crucible, Messiah, Miss Ever’s Boys and Urinetown. Other credits include The Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival (2016), Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike (Wasatch Theatre Company), The Children’s Hour (U of U Babcock), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Salt Lake Shakespeare).
DAVID EVANOFF (Musical Director) has been performing locally and nationally for……a life time. He’s is the owner of David Evanoff Sound Designs, a recording studio, going on its 25th year of operation. David produces sound and music for radio, TV, film and special events.
JAMES M. CRAIG (Lighting Design) has designed lights for the Grand Theatre, Salt Lake Acting Company, Plan-B Theatre, Utah Contemporary Theatre, Utah Musical Theatre,
LINDSEA GARSIDE (Hair & Makeup Design) is a graduate from Weber State University with a degree in Musical Theater. Some of her favorite roles include Betty Blake in The Will Rogers Follies, Christine Colgate in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Nellie in South Pacific. Lindsea is also thrilled to be doing the wigs for this production. She loves the design aspects of theater just as much as the performing. She has designed wigs for Centerpoint Legacy Theater, Good Company Theater, and several high schools and community theaters in the Northern Utah area.

WHO’S WHO in the CREATIVE STAFF SAMMEE LYDIA JAMES (Asst. Stage Manager) recently moved to SLC from NYC where she stage managed various new work for Red Fern Theatre Company and Rabbit Hole Ensemble. She graduated with a Bachelors in Theatre at Idaho State University. She has stage managed at various venues in Utah including Lyric Repertory, Frightmares and Metro Music Hall
executive producer, director and costume designer. Awards include United States Institute for Theatre Technology’s Thomas DeGaetani Award Outstanding Lifetime Contribution to the performing arts and entertainment industry and Salt Lake City Mayor’s Artist Award for Performing Arts. Keven is currently employed as the Operation Director for UtahPresents at Kingsbury Hall.
SHANNON MCCULLOCK (Costume Design) is extremely excited to be designing for the Grand Theatre! A Utah native, Shannon graduated from the University of Utah Performing Arts Design Program with Costuming Emphasis in 2010. Her recent designs for the Grand Theatre include The Comedy of Errors, Jekyll & Hyde and Picnic. She has also done costume design and construction work for the following: Westminster College Opera Studio, the University of Utah’s Babcock Theatre, Studio 115, and the Utah Museum of Natural History.
MÁIRE NELLIGAN (Properties Design) received a BFA in theatre from Marietta College before attending graduate school at AU. She worked as a techie, a designer, an actor, and a director in the Midwest and Southwest before moving to Salt Lake. Máire took over as Properties Master for the Grand several seasons ago, debuting with Man of La Mancha. While her favorite show tends to be whichever she is currently working on, Miss Evers’ Boys and The Wizard of Oz are particularly memorable, and dressing La Cage Aux Folle may well go down as the most fun ever. Past performances include roles in Fuddy Meers, On the Verge andDead Man’s Cell Phone. Directing experiences include The Good Doctor and Kaleidoscope.

WHO’S WHO in the CREATIVE STAFF RICHARD SCOTT (Director) is the Dean for the School of Arts, Communication and Media at Salt Lake Community College. He has almost 30 years of theatrical experience as a producer, director, actor and instructor. He has worked with many of Utah’s theatre companies including Pioneer Theatre Company, Salt Lake Acting Company, Sundance Summer & Children’s Theatre and the Egyptian Theatre in Park City. His credits at the Grand include director of Eurydice, Anything Goes, Damn Yankees, The Odd Couple (Female Version), 1776, Our Town, Morning’s at Seven and as an actor in Arsenic and Old Lace, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, All My Sons and Inherit the Wind. Richard is a member of Actors Equity Association and the recipient of the 2010 Mayor’s Artist Award.
TED SWINDLEY (Creator) is internationally known as write and director of the popular musical, Always…Patsy Cline. He is the founding artistic director of Stages Rep in Houston, Texas. He was also named to the Esquire Magazine’s register of outstanding Americans in arts and letters. Mr. Swindley was the recipient of the Los Angeles Dramalogue award for outstanding direction of Carnal Knowledge by Jules Feiffer. Currently, he is president of TED SWINDLEY PRODUCTIONS INC., a theatrical licensing and consulting company, and continues his 30 year career writing plays and musicals, consulting and mentoring playwrights, as well as directing plays for various theaters throughout the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Swindley is an active member of The Dramatists Guide of America and Stage Directors and Choreographers.

PATRON INFORMATION AUDIO ENHANCEMENT EQUIPMENT is available for theatre patrons who are hearingimpaired. The concession stand has Comtex wireless personal receivers which allow a patron to sit anywhere in the theatre and receive high fidelity audio. Because there is no charge for this service, you will be requested to leave your driver’s license with the cashier until the equipment is returned. BABIES AND SMALL CHILDREN often make it uncomfortable for other theatre patrons. Therefore, no children under 5 are allowed. Small children must have their own seat. DISABLED PATRONS may use wheelchair seating areas in the theatre. Each area can accommodate four wheelchair patrons and companion chairs. Ticket prices vary for each section. Aisle seats may be requested by patrons who can be assisted in the transfer from wheelchairs to theatre seats. BOX OFFICE HOURS are 12:00PM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday and 12:00PM to 8:00PM on the night of a performance, including Saturdays.
LATECOMERS will not be seated in their reserved seats until the end of a scene. Latecomers will be seated in available seating that will not disturb punctual theatre patrons. LOST AND FOUND will be held by the head usher until the end of the performance. Thereafter, please contact the Box Office at 801. 957.3322. All items, after a period of 24 hours, will be taken to Administrative Services in Room 1-060. They may be contacted at 801.957.3301. PHOTOGRAPHY, AUDIO OR VIDEO RECORDING of any performance or the possession of any such device inside this theatre without the written permission of management is prohibited. Offenders may be requested to leave and may be liable for damages and other lawful remedies. THEATRE PARKING is available at no charge in the parking areas on the East and North side of the building. Ticketing will occur when parked in the disabled parking areas without a proper pass. Please note that parking meters are still active during performances.
