— Viktor Yosyfovych, you have combined science, medicine, military service, civic engagement, and even philosophy. What do you believe is the driving force behind such a multifaceted journey?

— Health is a universal human value—no less vital than happiness or prosperity. It determines both the quality of individual life and the prospects for sustainable societal development.

The medical profession is among the most humane, ordained to safeguard human life and wellbeing. It is a daily vocation that demands spiritual strength, continual self improvement, and the courage to confront one’s own weaknesses. Society has every right to demand transparency of morals from its physicians, and each of us must strive not to stray beyond those

Viktor Yosyfovych Teshchuk —Honored Doctor of Ukraine, retired Colonel of the Medical Service, Candidate of Medical Sciences, citizen, philosopher. He is also a mentor and a grandfather with a great heart, especially proud of his grandson Mark—an embodiment of Ukraine’s next generation.

Undoubtedly, Viktor Yosyfovych’s life path is a fusion of medicine, scholarship, military service, humanity, and familial warmth.

— How did your journey into medicine begin? Do you remember the moment you first felt like a Doctor—with a capital “D”?

— I have been in medicine since 1981. Those were years of profound personal searching, answering the question: “What am I here for?” And when I first looked into the grateful eyes of someone I had saved—that was the moment I truly felt like a Doctor.

Since then, much has changed—27 Ministers of Health have come and gone, each reforming medicine in their own way. Yet the core—the inner calling—remains unchanged.

Non progredi est regredi—“Not to move forward is to retreat.” This Latin phrase from my days at the Ivano Frankivsk

Medical Institute remains my inner guiding star.

— Your service during the war is a heroic chapter in its own right. How would you assess the spirit of Ukrainians today?

— Ukrainians are a unique people. We not only stood our ground, but found within ourselves an inner strength—a will that refuses to yield. From the Cossacks to modern revolutions, Ukrainians have always chosen the path to freedom, even when it was the hardest. Over the past decades, we have lived through two revolutions—not mere political events, but demonstrations of the will to live free. Even in the face of existential threats, Ukrainians do not abandon their convictions. Each act of heroism—raising the flag in occupied towns or embroidering blue and yellow

ribbons—carries profound meaning. When danger arises, we unite, putting aside our differences for a common purpose. It is this unity and deep understanding of the value of freedom that shape our national character.

— You have authored over 400 scientific papers. Which findings or cases do you consider most significant?

— The most meaningful research is that which directly saves lives. Knowledge that simply accumulates—no. But knowledge that serves—that has real value.

— Medicine evolves rapidly. How does a doctor change—does humanity endure in the profession?

— Humanity is a moral quality that reflects the principle of humanism in everyday relationships between physician and patient. It manifests as respect, kindness, trust, compassion. A doctor must see in their patient not merely a diagnosis, but a human being. Only then does medical work retain its purpose.

— Your family holds great importance in your life. You frequently speak of your grandson Mark. What do you see through his eyes?

– Our family’s greatest pride is our grandson, Marko. He is currently pursuing

his education and carrying into the world the values we have instilled in him since childhood. I have always believed in the freedom of his choices — and I take pride in the fact that he is following his own path.

Marko has studied in several countries around the world and speaks multiple languages fluently — at a native level, in fact. He is passionate about mathematics and history, plays the flute, guitar, and saxophone, sings in a choir, and practices both boxing and soccer.

When my grandson and I play golf together, we talk about many different topics. Golf teaches valuable lessons that can be applied in everyday life. This game fosters honesty and responsibility for one’s actions, helps shape a clear vision of life goals, and builds the focus needed to achieve them. It also cultivates communication skills, etiquette, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities. The future of Ukraine belongs to our grandchildren. They are the living embodiment of the spirit of a free and strong Ukrainian nation. This generation has the opportunity to board a plane at any moment, move to another country, and try living there. But I believe it is precisely their choice — and their return — that makes Ukraine stronger.

— What gives you the inspiration every morning to rise with the will to work?

— Service is a state of the soul. Each morning I know I can be helpful. To assist, advise, teach. As long as I have strength—I serve.

— What would you wish for young doctors who are only beginning their journey?

— Develop your own system of values. Set for yourself a high standard of morality—and never betray it. Being a doctor is not a profession—it is a way of life. Be honest, inquisitive, responsible. And remember: not to move forward is to retreat. Ukraine needs strong, dedicated, and wise individuals.

— Як Ви обирали свою професію і чому стали саме банкіром?

— Я родом із Прикарпаття, чарівного бойківського краю, з гірського міста Долина. У 1997 році, будучи учнем шостого класу, я дивився загальнонаціональну телепередачу «Людина року», в якій Вадим Гетьман отримав нагороду «Банкір року». Його промова якимось чарівним чином надихнула мене на велику мрію — стати українським банкіром. Відтоді й розпочався мій шлях до «банківського Евересту».

— Ви також є першим віцепрезидентом Асоціації українських банків. Чим сьогодні займається

для банків?

— Я вдячний Президенту Асоціації українських

років. Сьогодні АУБ об’єднує не лише банки, а й небанківські фінансові установи.

Після ухвалення у 2020 році так званого «закону про спліт» було ліквідовано Нацкомфінпослуг, а функції регулювання небанківських установ перейшли до Національного банку України. Як асоціація, що десятиліттями співп

У 2024 році Асоціація відкрила представництво у Брюсселі, що стало важливим кроком у напрямку поглиблення міжнародної співпраці

з ЄС? — Український банківський сектор вже на 70–80% відповідає європейським стандартам і навіть випереджає деякі країни ЄС за якістю сервісу, тоді як небанківський фінансовий ринок потребує подальших змін. З метою його розвитку Асоціація українських

“TODAY, THE AUB UNITES NOT ONLY BANKS BUT ALSO NON-BANK FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS”

— How did you choose your profession and why did you become a banker?

— I come from Prykarpattia, a magical Boyko region, from the mountain town of Dolyna. In 1997, when I was a sixth-grade student, I watched the national TV programme Man of the Year, in which Vadym Hetman received the “Banker of the Year” award. His speech somehow magically inspired me to pursue a big dream – to become a Ukrainian banker. Since then, my journey to the “banking Everest” has begun.

(Editor’s note: in 2019, Vitalii Romanchukevych repeated the achievement of his idol – he was recognised as the “Financier of the Year”).

— You are also the First Vice President of the Association of Ukrainian Banks. What does AUB do today and what advantages does membership in the association provide for banks?

— I am grateful to Andrii Dubas, President of the Association of Ukrainian Banks, for inviting me to join the development of this organisation. It is a great honour for me, especially considering how much the Association has grown over the past seven years.

Today, the AUB unites not only banks but also non-bank financial institutions.

After the adoption of the so-called “split law” in 2020, the National Financial Services Commission was liquidated, and the National Bank of Ukraine took over the functions of regulating non-banking institutions. As an association that has been working with the NBU for decades to strengthen the banking system, we have logically adapted our constituent documents and opened up membership to non-banks.

We are often asked why we have not changed the name of the Association. Our answer is simple: if the NBU did not change its name after expanding its powers, we will keep ours.

Today, the AUB is a unique platform for

● exchange of experience between market participants,

● developing common positions,

● bringing initiatives to the Verkhovna Rada, the government, the NBU and other regulators.

The Association currently comprises 75 institutions, of which approximately half are banks and the other half are non-bank financial institutions. The members of the Association include all state-owned banks, a number of banks with foreign capital, and most banks with private capital: large, medium, and small.

In 2024, the Association opened a representative office in Brussels, which was an important step towards deepening international cooperation on the path to European integration.

— You are an independent director and chair the Supervisory Board of JSC European Industrial Bank. What is its development strategy and what goals do you aim to achieve?

— Established in 2008, JSC European Industrial Bank is a universal boutique family office bank that focuses on an individual approach to each client, providing a high level of personalised service and financial solutions.

The bank’s strategy is to create long-term partnerships focused on a deep understanding of the needs of businesses and individuals, with a particular emphasis on confidentiality, reliability and maximum customer satisfaction.

— Ukraine is actively moving towards European integration. How do you assess the market’s readiness for integration with the EU?

— The Ukrainian banking sector is already 7080% compliant with European standards and even ahead of some EU countries in terms of service quality, while the non-banking financial market requires further changes. In order to develop it, the Association of Ukrainian Banks actively cooperates with European partners, in particular within the Step in2EU project implemented together with GIZ.

— What is the strength and uniqueness of the Ukrainian banking sector compared to the EU?

— Ukraine’s banking sector has undergone a major transformation. The combination of reforms and digitalisation has prepared the banking system for the extreme conditions of war.

Since February 2022 – more than three and a half years now – the Ukrainian banking system has demonstrated stability, cohesion and technological readiness for challenges.

We see:

● an effective model of power banking,

● prompt response of the NBU to threats,

● coordinated work of bankers across the country.

This is our unique experience, which we will be able to share with the international community after we win. We hope that other countries will never have to go through something like this, but it is better to be prepared for challenges than to be caught unawares.

OLGA SOKOLOVA: «THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN EDUCATION IS EVOLVING

UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF MODERN TECHNOLOGIES »

Differences in Methodologies: What do you think are the main differences between educational methods in the USA and Ukraine?

Learning English as a foreign language significantly differs between Ukraine and United States, not only because of different educational system, methodologies and cultural content, but the approach to learners and fundamental understanding that different people learn foreign language differently based on their personal characteristics.

In Ukraine, learning foreign language based on traditional, structured curriculum with grammar reinforcement, memorization of vocabulary and translation, lack of communication with native speakers lead to the situations where students have no options as to follow teacher’s lecture and automatically work on memorization through writing and constant repetition. Even if it is difficult for the student or student is not capable based on some natural conditions to memorize words or expressions, sitting during the lecture more than 30 minutes, staying focused with no option - the student must do it, and strong consequences of not completing the tasks or requirements will be conducted immediately. Conversely, in the U.S, classrooms are student-centered, with flexible setting. Instructions are differentiated and individual students’ learning goals are established based on collective data: pre-assessments, teacher observation notes, parents’ input, last year academic performance, any other information (years in US school, native language speaking at home, etc.) Students have choices in the classrooms how to implement their knowledge: through presentation, drawings, writing. Teachers are planning instructions considering each student’s personality and learning

Rapidly developing technologies have significantly transformed the educational process in recent years - and continue to do so. More than half of educators now incorporate AI into their lectures and seminars to some extent, and 55% of surveyed teachers believe that AI has a positive impact on education, according to Forbes. But is the picture really that optimistic and straightforward? Could there be hidden pitfalls? And what might the learning process look like in the next 5 to 10 years? We discuss these questions with expert Olga Sokolova.

Born in Zaporozhie, Ukraine, Olga Sokolova holds a Master’s-equivalent degree in English and Spanish as foreign languages from Zaporozhie State University. She began her career in international hospitality, working aboard global cruise lines and rising to the position of Chief Guest Relations Officer. Following her move to the United States, Olga transitioned into education, earning a professional teaching license and working as a classroom teacher in U.S. public schools. She currently serves as a school administrator in the ESOL department and is completing a Master’s degree in educational leadership. Olga also holds certifications in Reading, ESOL, and Gifted Education.

Based on my experience, I would say that ideal approach is a combination of structured learning with the opportunities for personal application.

Which approaches do you find more effective?

When I am planning my lessons, I would like my students engaged, I want them express interest in learning. I incorporate multimedia resources such as videos and interactive presentations to address diverse learning styles of my students. When we have a group discussion or brainstorming sessions, I always listen to my students’ perspectives and encourage them to share their ideas. Kids are very creative and one of my goals is to develop their creativity, as thinking outside the box will enhance their critical thinking skills and self-confidence contributing to their success.

In your opinion, what role does AI currently play in education, how has it already changed the learning process, and how do you see it shaping education in the future?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already playing a significant role in education, and I believe its influence will only continue to grow. Today, AI helps personalize learning, which is especially important in classrooms where students have different academic backgrounds, language levels, and cultural experiences. Adaptive learning platforms, for example, allow students to progress at their own pace, receive immediate feedback, and stay engaged in the learning process.

In my own teaching practice, I have used AI-based tools that analyze student responses and offer targeted practice based on

their individual needs. This is particularly effective for English Language Learners, as these tools help identify specific areas of difficulty - whether it’s vocabulary, grammar, or reading comprehension - and provide focused support.

AI also helps increase student engagement. Many platforms that use elements of gamification or interactive visuals make learning more appealing to students. This is especially helpful for children who may struggle with traditional formats of instruction and benefit from alternative approaches.

Looking ahead, I see AI as a powerful tool to move us away from a “one-size-fits-all” approach to student evaluation. Instead of judging all students by the same standards, AI will allow us to consider individual growth, starting points, and learning styles. This is crucial for students with disabilities and for newcomers who are still adjusting to a new language and education system.

At the same time, I strongly believe that technology can never replace the human connection between a teacher and student. It is the teacher who creates a safe, trusting, and supportive environment- something no algorithm can replicate. AI should be used to enhance teachers’ capabilities, reduce routine tasks, and free up time for more meaningful and creative interactions with students.

It’s also essential to ensure that teachers receive proper training in using AI tools effectively. I continue to educate myself and believe that professional development is the key to successful integration of digital tools in the classroom.

Teacher-Student Relationship: How would you describe your relationship with your students?

In my classroom I built up an atmosphere of trust and caring and respect that forms the foundation of productive learning. Students can always ask me for help or support. Many of my students’ families have experienced significant challenges including the pandemic, immigration, economic situations, and more. Typically, students bring these burdens to school and sometimes seeking help without explicitly asking or explaining their needs, but you can understand through behavior changes, change of attitude or changes in academic’s engagements. I make any possible effort to communicate with students to show support, understanding and looking always how can I help to solve the problem/situation, where to benefit the student. While I expect respect I always demonstrate respect for my students in return, recognizing them as individuals with all rights to their own thoughts, ideas and beliefs.

Personal Achievements: What moments in your career do you consider the most significant?

I have passed 13 exams in English, meeting all State of Florida requirements. I can read, write, and speak in 4 foreign languages. In 4th grade, my gifted math class achieved 99% proficiency in the subject during a single school year. I independently created my own website as well as curriculum for courses and seminars designed for Russian-speaking students learning Spanish. I manage the department for students who speak languages other than English, overseeing 165 students from 45 countries, and have developed a support intervention program for them in reading and math. My gifted class has participated in the international project where my 4th grade class created virtual presentation about their school life and Italian 4th grade class shared theirs. (We created video presentations every month based on the topics: our school, our life, our families traditions). I am the mother of a 15-year-old student who was identified as

gifted in 3rd grade in the U.S. public school system.

Advice for New Teachers: What advice would you give to new teachers who are just beginning their careers in education?

Education is rewarding but challenging field of career. For new teachers entering the field I say first- be open to guidance and redirection from experienced teachers who have a wealth of hard-earned wisdom and proven strategies to share. Don’t hesitate to ask questions how to design effective lessons, classroom management, etc.

Actively seeking advice demonstrates your commitment to growth and improvement. Attend workshops, pursue additional certifications, following the latest research, then bring back that learning to share with your fellow teachers or enhance students’ experience in class. With an open mind new teachers can make the impact on students’ academics and life-changes..

Future education: How do you see future education?

The future of education will definitely be influenced by AI where every student will get customized learning paths, content recommendations, personal feedback. It will significally enhance the effectiveness of learning process where the automate process of grading, analyzing data will give teachers time to focus on one-on -one instructions, fostering positive classroom environment. It will help worldwide, for example for Ukrainian school to personalize instructions and focus on student-centered education.

But AI will never replace a teacher in a classroom who brings human touch and social-emotional development, facilitating interpersonal skills, develop empathy and encouragement.

The future of education should lie in a combination of AI personalized learning and teachers’ human qualities to work together for the students’ success.

ELEONORA FEDCHENKO: THE PATH OF A PROFESSIONAL THAT TRANSFORMS LIFE

— Mrs. Eleonora, we are glad to see you on the pages of our magazine. Tell us how your journey began before moving to the USA?

— My professional journey began in Ukraine, where I combined the roles of a business leader, mentor, trainer, and coach. In 2019, I first plunged into the world of coaching — and this profession became a real calling. I received the international PCC ICF certification and also became an NLP master.

I was often invited as a financial coach to business clubs for speeches, master classes, and reports on personal effectiveness, strategic thinking, and female leadership. A special event was my speech at the Business Women 2021 business forum in Odessa, where I spoke about the power of partnership in building a business.

Another significant episode was a television interview on the “Ukraina” channel on September 19, 2021, dedicated to the topic of financial literacy. Being on the air as an

expert was not only recognition for me, but also confirmation of the social importance of the topics I deal with.

— What are the main challenges you face in your role as a business coach and trainer in a consulting company?

— The biggest challenge is to help a person find their true direction. Often, clients come to me at a point of internal chaos, uncertainty, or after deep losses. My task is not just to support, but to provide an effective tool, to help find meaning, to feel supported, and then to put together a step-by-step plan for implementing a business or a new stage of life.

In the USA, the topic of adaptation is especially relevant. My work often becomes the support that allows a person to go through the path from emigration to self-realization.

— What values and principles underlie your approach to business development?

— My key values are honesty, responsibility and transformation. I work with people who strive not just to earn, but to benefit themselves, their loved ones, and their new country.

My vision: business should begin with a deep meaning. That is why I emphasise internal resources, transparency of decisions and ethics in actions. Business in a female way is not only about “surviving”, but also about living with inspiration.

— How do you see the future of consulting? How do you plan to adapt to changes in this field?

— I am convinced that the consulting of the future is a synthesis of strategic depth and a human approach. Artificial intelligence cannot replace trust, empathy, experience and the ability to see potential in a client.

I plan to continue to develop my practice in the USA, create specialised programs for emigrants from Ukraine, and help them find not only a business niche, but a life calling.

My future is to be a leader of change. This is what makes my work alive and truly valuable.

сертифікацію PCC ICF, а також стала майстром НЛП.

Мене часто запрошували як фінансового коуча до бізнесклубів для виступів, майстеркласів і доповідей на теми

особистої ефективності, стратегічного мислення та жіночого

лідерства. Особливою подією

став мій виступ на бізнес-форумі Business Women 2021 в

— У 2017 році в нашому Центрі була започаткована діяльність інтерактивного дитячого клубу «СонцеСвіт», до заходів якого почали долучатися діти з інвалідністю та

особливими освітніми потребами. Я

відчула, наскільки важливо для та-

ких дітей бути в соціумі, а для їхніх батьків — бути прийнятими. Програма заходів була побудована так,

з Господньою допомогою. У тому ж 2020 році я заснувала об’єднання «Жінки за Життя!». І ось вже п’ятий рік поспіль наша спільнота зростає — сьогодні в ній понад 250 жінок. Серед них — жінки з числа ВПО, жінки з інвалідністю, жінки віком 60+. Ми надаємо психологічну підтримку, проводимо інформаційно-просвітницьку роботу, акцентуючи увагу на важливості регулярних обстежень та ранньої діагностики онкозахворювань.

— Mrs. Nataliia, do you remember the moment when you realised that you had to leave your hometown and start everything from scratch? What gave you the strength not to break down then?

— When we lost our home, our job, our business – everything that seemed unchanging and dear to us, I asked my children: “Maybe we should go abroad, start everything from scratch in safety?” The children said: “Mom, we are Ukrainians. We should live in Ukraine.”

That was the moment when a wave of emotions swept over me: shame for my words, tears that flowed without stopping, and at the same time pride – pride for the children, for the fact that despite the war, fear, and losses, they have more strength than adults.

For their sake, I pulled myself together. After all, I understand: if we want to see a strong, flourishing Ukraine, we must invest in our children. They are a new generation that has not been broken by war.

– How has your dream of having your own salon changed after moving?

— After moving, my dream transformed. Before, I just wanted to have a beautiful salon, and now it is a space of strength. A space for women who are tired, have experienced losses, moves, stress. For them, it is important not only to look

HOW THE WAR DID NOT BROKE, BUT HELPED TO CREATE A DREAM SALON

The war brought into the lives of millions of Ukrainians not only the pain of loss, but also an irresistible need for change. Leaving her hometown, Nataliia PAPAIKA did not break. Her dream of a beauty salon transformed into a space of strength for Ukrainian women. Here is an example of indomitability: an interview with the owner of a beauty salon @image_center.

And today, when I see women come into my salon, smile, relax, I understand that I did everything for a reason.

– What was the most difficult part about relocating the salon?

— The hardest thing was to start all over again where no one knows you. The feeling of “not strange among strangers” is very painful. Personally, it was painful to lose my usual life. But these moments are hardening. They taught me to live without relying on “once upon a time” and to build “now there is”.

Professionally, I had to prove my worth from scratch, looking for not just clients, but people who could need me.

– Is there a secret that helped you find clients in a new city?

— Faith in myself. My experience, my hands, my attitude towards every woman is what the war could not destroy. I brought with me values that cannot be lost: sincerity, respect for the client, and love for the work.

Trust does not appear instantly. It must be cultivated. And I started with one face, one story, the smile of a client, who then brought a friend to me. Word of mouth is the best advertising when your work comes from the heart.

– Mrs. Nataliia, how important is female resilience for you today?

— Women’s resilience is not about strength without tears. It’s about the ability to rise, even when the soul is broken. It’s about tenderness that can protect. About care that heals.

In my daily work, I see how much our women carry in their hearts. The war forced many of them to grow up, survive, and carry families, businesses, and children. And they come to the salon not only for a service – they are looking for restoration, understanding, and a breath of peace.

I learn from each of them and believe: these are the women who make up our invincible Ukraine.

— Пані Наталіє, пам’ятаєте той момент, коли зрозуміли, що потрібно залишати рідне місто та починати все з нуля? Що тоді дало Вам сили не зламатися?

— Коли ми втратили дім, роботу, бізнес — усе, що здавалося

незмінним і рідним, я запитала своїх дітей: «Можливо, нам варто поїхати за кордон, почати все

з нуля в безпеці?» Діти сказали: «Мамо, ми — українці. Ми маємо

жити в Україні».

Це був момент, коли мене накрила хвиля емоцій: сором за свої слова, сльози, що котилися без

зупину, і водночас — гордість.

Гордість за дітей, за те, що попри війну, страх і втрати, у них

більше сили, ніж у дорослих.

— Найважчим було почати все спочатку там, де тебе ніхто не знає. Відчуття «своя серед чужих» — дуже болісне. Особисто боляче було втрачати звичне
