CHAT 六廠 CHAT (六廠紡織文化藝術館） (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) CHAT六廠（六廠紡織文化藝術館）位於荃灣 南豐 紗廠，即 南豐 紡 織 昔日在 荃灣 的廠 房原 址。CHAT六廠所策展的多元化項目包括展覽與 共學計劃兩大類型。透過這些項目，我們希望為 大眾編織創意體驗。我們誠邀參觀者去感受香 港紡織業勇於創新的精神；並在紡織的領域裡， 於當代藝術、設計與歴史共冶一爐的氛圍下，展 開一段段啟發思考的旅程和交流。

CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) is an art centre located at The Mills, the former cotton-spinning mills of Nan Fung Textiles in Tsuen Wan. Through its multifaceted curated programmes, which include exhibitions and co-learning programmes, CHAT aims to be an art centre that weaves creative experiences for all. We invite our visitors to experience the spirit of the innovative legacy of Hong Kong's textile industry and engage in new dialogues and inspirational journeys that interweave contemporary art, design and heritage.
于一蘭：直到我們再度相擁 Yee I-Lann: Until We Hug Again
「于一蘭：直到我們再度相擁」是來自馬來西亞 沙巴、國際上享負盛名的藝術家于一蘭在香港 的首個個人展覽。 于一蘭透過作品回應東南亞群島的現代歷史、 其昔日殖民背景與現今後殖民時代。她一直從 多角度出發解構歷史敘事，展現在整個東南亞 的地緣政治歷史中因多種族而形成錯綜複雜 的文化身份。 這次CHAT六廠的展覽涵蓋以紡織為焦點的新 舊作品，透過紡織不僅突顯向來被忽視的東南 亞群島殖民史中的女性，也作為表達該地區多 元種族的複雜文化身份認同及傳統的方法。藝 術家全新的委託作品由馬來西亞內陸的織匠以 竹織技術製成，圖案上加入了經典廣東流行曲 的歌詞，從而展示香港及馬來西亞之間跨文化 的影響。 在這次展覽中，于一蘭的作品呈現了她與沙巴 社區重新建立聯繫的個人歷程及合作團體各式 各樣的抗逆能力，克服現代化及當前新冠疫情 下許多艱鉅的挑戰。展覽中的作品除了代表後 殖民的沙巴外，還關乎團結精神、憐憫及幽默等 概念，這些元素都一直存在於她的藝術實踐中。

特別展覽 Special Exhibition
Yee I-Lann: Until We Hug Again is the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by Yee I-Lann, an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist from Kota Kinabalu, the State of Sabah, Malaysia. Yee's works respond to the modern history of the Southeast Asian Archipelago and its colonial past and postcolonial present. Through her artworks and practice, Yee has been disentangling historical narratives from a single perspective, presenting complex cultural identities formed by multiple ethnicities throughout the geopolitical history of Southeast Asia. At CHAT, her past and recent works are showcased, emphasising the significance of textiles in Yee’s works not only as an active agent to shed light on the absence of female actors in the colonial history of the Southeast Asian Archipelago, but also as a methodology to collectively represent the region's intricate multi-ethnic cultural identity and heritage. Her newly commissioned bamboo piece woven by inland weavers in Malaysia and incorporating lyrics from iconic Cantopop songs will also be unveiled to highlight the common threads and transcultural influences between Hong Kong and Malaysia. Throughout the exhibition, Yee’s works present her personal journey to reconnect with the communities in Sabah as well as the various forms of resilience of her collaborators, who have overcome many difficult challenges as a result of modernisation and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond introducing a postcolonial representation of Sabah, her works in the exhibition will also speak about solidarity, compassion and humour, which are persistent themes in her artistic practice.

About Artist
于一蘭生於馬來西亞婆羅洲沙巴州亞庇，並在 該地居住及工作。她在澳洲阿德萊德完成視覺 藝術課程後，從事吉隆坡眾多的文化產業，包括 電影工業、藝術學院及音樂領域。自2017年，于 一蘭於家鄉亞庇生活和工作，並開始與海島和 山區社群合作，以當地物料和技術來創作；她同 時擔任永久沙巴（Forever Sabah）及擔波羅利 生活藝術中心（Tamparuli Living Arts Center TaLAC）的董事成員，這兩個非牟利組織的宗旨 為推動沙巴的自然保育和可持續發展，以及保 存與促進文化活動。 她的作品收藏於美國明尼阿波利斯美術館、日 本東京森美術館、澳洲坎培拉國立美術館、新加 坡美術館、馬來西亞吉隆坡國家美術館、英國倫 敦瑞銀藝術藏品及法國巴黎的卡迪斯基金會。
Born and currently lives and works in Kota Kinabalu in the Malaysian Borneo state of Sabah, Yee I-Lann has been involved in various cultural sectors including film industries, the art academy and the music scene in Kuala Lumpur after completing her studies of visual art in Adelaide, Australia. Since 2017, Yee has lived and worked in her homeland of Kota Kinabalu and started working in collaboration with sea-based and mountain-based communities to create art pieces with indigenous materials and techniques. At the same time, she serves as a board member for Forever Sabah and Tamparuli Living Arts Center (TaLAC), nonprofit organisations established for Sabah’s nature conservation and sustainability efforts as well as the preservation and promotion of cultural activities. Her works are included in the collections of prominent international art institutions including Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minneapolis, USA; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan; National Art Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Australia; Singapore Art Museum, Singapore; National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; UBS Art Collection, London, UK and the Kadist Foundation, Paris, France.

This summer, CHAT presents an immersive display at The Hall of The Mills with Yee I-Lann’s photographic works and several large tikar (mat) woven by weavers from the artist’s home state of Sabah, Malaysia. The photographic works surrounding CHAT’s glass windows on the second floor depict scenes of collaboration between the artist and weavers from the Bajau Laut/Sama Dilaut and the Dusun/Murut communities. Two large tikar unfurl in the air while the biggest tikar, Tikar Emoji – interwoven with traditional patterns and contemporary emojis – is installed on the ground, forming a stage for sitting, gathering and performing. During the period of display, various Hong Kong talents will sing, tell stories, perform and conduct workshops on the Tikar Emoji stage for a joyous time with visitors. 我們穿的衣物由布製成，布大多紡或編自纖維， 有些纖維以植物紡紗。這是經歷一年多的社區 項目「種學織文」的切入點——從織物製作過 程追溯根本。 項目的「種子」萌發於2019夏季項目，來自印度 邁索爾的合作夥伴Krac-A-Dawna有機農場訪 港，與本地農夫及染匠交流他們的營運生態， 並介紹引以自豪的自家種、染、織的藍染棉質 衣飾。到了2020春季項目，國際藝術家加藤泉 的委託作品是種有植物及手繪石頭的一系列雕 塑，其中一組種了與Krac-A-Dawna有機農場同 一品種的木藍。去年夏天，我們收割那株木藍， 加工後便成為我們的第一瓶藍泥。 憑著這瓶靛泥，我們逐步展開「種學織文」之 旅。今年夏天，我們將總結實驗結果並展示藝 術面向的探索。適逢南豐紗廠同期推出以天然 染技為題的「自然之色」項目，CHAT六廠亦會 舉辦由「種學織文」延伸的藍染體驗活動。有關 活動詳情，請瀏覽精選項目一覽及CHAT六廠網 站。
特別項目 Special Programme
Most fabrics are made fromwoven or knitted fibres, some of which are derived from natural plants. This is why Seed to Textile, a year-long community project, traces textile manufacturing down to its origin. The seed was sown when Krac-A-Dawna Organic Farm, our collaborator from Mysore, India during Summer Programme 2019 visited Hong Kong and introduced to local farmers and dyers their operation ecosystem and their proud products made of home-grown and -spun cotton and self-processed indigo. In Spring Programme 2020, participating artist Kato Izumi created a commission artwork that incorporates living indigofera tinctoria, the same species growing in Krac-A-Dawna Organic Farm. The indigo leaves we harvested last Summer, after some processing, has become our first jar of indigo pigment. With this homemade indigo, we embarked on the journey of Seed to Textile. This Summer, CHAT is delighted to wrap up the experiment and showcase its artistic explorations. Simulateously with the Colour of the Earth exhibition at The Mills, CHAT will present the project and invite the public to participate in the various indigo dyeing related workshops. The history of Hong Kong's textile industry is one of invention and innovation. At the gallery, you will discover history narrated through humble, everyday items made by Hong Kong’s vibrant textile industry and learn about the textile techniques. The Mills building was formerly a cotton spinning factory owned by Nan Fung Textiles. The green walls and high windows in The D. H. Chen Foundation Gallery are vestiges of the golden era of Hong Kong's textile industry. The exhibition Welcome to the Spinning Factory! will present a brief but intensive history of Hong Kong's textile industry, featuring rich imageries, vintage cotton products and archival documents and objects. You are also invited to experience the manual cotton-spinning process using traditional spinning instruments, and design and create your own cotton label at the workshop stations in The D. H. Continuing with our artist collaborations, CHAT Shop will be launching 4 new CHAT Originals products this Summer season. Tailoring to the exhibition, CHAT’s Textile Programmes partnered with Yee I-Lann to create two unique products – a table mat made by the weavers of the Women’s Association of Omadal Island in Sabah, Malaysia, and a scented candle created in collaboration with local candle studio BeCandle that is inspired by Yee’s artwork Rasa Sayang. To encourage hands-on experience and promote making culture, we will also be launching a DIY bag-weaving kit and a cross body bag dyed with locally produced indigo from the Seed to Textile project. These CHAT Originals are available for purchase at CHAT Shop.
