Fort Lee is more than just a military installation – it’s a school, a workplace and a home with roots reaching back to the settlement at Jamestown. The U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command, the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, the U.S. Army Ordnance School, the Army Logistics University, Kenner Army Health Clinic, Military Entrance Processing Station and the U.S. Army Garrison, which is organized under the Northeast Region Office of the Installation Management Command, are among the many organizations on Fort Lee. Fort Lee is also home to the headquarters for the Defense Commissary Agency, as well as the 49th Quartermaster Group, which is a Forces Command unit and the only active-duty petroleum and water group headquarters. In addition, the 49th QM Group has the only two mortuary affairs units in the active-duty Army inventory. The long term physical improvements that have been underway at Fort Lee over the last half century received a major boost when Congress passed Base Realignment and Closure legislation in 2005. As a result of approved recommendations several new organizations are relocating to and/or consolidating their operations on Fort Lee – including the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School from Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, and most of the U.S. Army Transportation Center and School from Fort Eustis, Virginia Dozens of new classroom buildings, headquarters, fitness and dining facilities, outdoor training sites, high-rise housing projects, and more are already under construction. When completed in 2011, at a projected cost of $1.5 billion, the installation will have acquired 6.5 million square feet of new facilities. In that same timeframe the daily population is expected to rise from 32,000 to nearly 47,000. In the summer of 2007 there was a ground-breaking ceremony on Sergeant Seay Field to begin construction of the new four-story Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE) Headquarters building. To help make way for the new structure, the First Logistical Command Memorial – which had been located on that site since 1974 – was carefully unmoored and moved to a more prominent spot facing the main entrance to Fort Lee. The $50 million SCoE Headquarters Building took eighteen months to build and

was formally dedicated in January 2009. It houses the Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM), logistics combat and training developments, and command group headquarters for the Quartermaster, Ordnance, and Transportation Corps. The Sustainment Center of Excellence transforms Fort Lee into the third largest training installation in the Army, in terms of student numbers, after Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Fort Benning, Georgia. In July 2009 the local Command and invited dignitaries gathered to mark the opening of the Army Logistics University (ALU), another recently completed BRAC 2005 project. This 400,000-square-foot building will soon be offering more than 200 courses, is expected to be able to train upwards of 2,300 military and civilian students daily. Fort Lee provides an outstanding place for families to live, work and play, all within the installation. Through the Residential Community Initiative, Fort Lee is able to provide the best in on-post housing for military families, while the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Directorate provides a variety of activities for community members of all ages. Families are further supported through child and youth development services, religious activities, parks, stadiums and much more. Fort Lee is an important part of the local community, as recognized in the signing of the Army Community Covenant. Fort Lee’s history spans 10,000 years, as indigenous native peoples occupied the area for 9,800 years. Fort Lee and the surrounding area were ideal for Native Peoples. The land provided sustenance; rock and clay were excellent raw materials to make stone tools or pottery. The wetlands and close proximity to waterways allowed for easier mobility.

THE HISTORY OF THE FORT LEE AREA

About 300 years ago, Fort Lee received its first European colonists. The roads and the later railroads on which tobacco was transported to market became the avenue of mobilization and troop support during the Revolutionary and the Civil wars. These roads passing through Fort Lee linked Petersburg and “City Point,” now Hopewell, both vital supply and communication centers on the Appomattox River. During the last days of the Revolutionary War, British and Tory troops were engaged in a battle by a small force of Americans near Blandford Church, between Petersburg and the present Fort Lee. After the Americans were forced to withdraw and all military stores in Petersburg were destroyed, Lord Cornwallis and his army joined the British and marched through this area to Yorktown where the war ended. In the summer of 1864, General Ulysses S. Grant decided the capture of Petersburg was essential to the Union cause in order to cut the important supply lines into Richmond and force Robert E. Lee out into the open. Lee moved his headquarters to “Violet Bank,” now Colonial Heights, and Grant’s headquarters and supply depot were at City Point. The struggle for Petersburg continued for 10 months before Lee evacuated to the city. One week later, Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, 100 miles to the west. Four historical markers indicate where General Grant’s military railroad crossed the post. For a time, General George Gordon Meade had his headquarters in the area of E. Ave. and 38th St., and President Abraham Lincoln watched a review of troops at the present Mahone Ave. parade ground just weeks before his assassination. Camp Lee During World War I Just 18 days after a state of war with Germany was declared, the first Camp Lee was selected as a state mobilization camp and later became a division training camp.

In June 1917, building began and within 60 days, 14,000 men swarmed over the newly designed military installation. When construction work ended, there were accommodations for 60,335. On July 15, 1917, the War Department announced that the camp would be named in honor of General Lee (1807-1870), the most famous of the Confederate Civil War commanders. After World War I, Camp Lee was taken over by the Commonwealth of Virginia and designated a game preserve. Later, portions of the land were incorporated into the National Military Park of Petersburg. Camp Lee During World War II In October 1940, the War Department ordered the construction of another Camp Lee on the site of the earlier installation. Built as rapidly as the first, construction was still ongoing when the Quartermaster Replacement Training Center (QMRTC) started operation in February 1941. Camp Lee was also the home of a Medical Replacement Training Center (MRTC), but as the Quartermaster training increased, it was decided to relocate the MRTC to Camp Pickett, Va. Later, the QMRTC was re-designated as an Army Services Forces Training Center, but it retained its basic mission of training Quartermaster personnel. While the QMRTC was getting underway, the Quartermaster School was transferred to Camp Lee. A full program of courses was conducted, including Officer Candidate School. By the end of 1941, Camp Lee was the center of both basic and advanced training of Quartermaster personnel and held this position throughout the war.

Fort Lee After 1950 When World War II ended, the fate of Camp Lee was in question. In 1946, the War Department announced that Camp Lee would be retained as a center for Quartermaster training. Official recognition of its permanent status was obtained in

The Quartermaster Training Center, created to supervise the training of Quartermaster personnel and troop units, brought an intensification of training activity within the Quartermaster Corps. As a result, the courses formerly taught at other locations were incorporated in the curriculum of the Quartermaster School. Profound changes were evident at Fort Lee during 1962. The post became a Class 1 military installation under Second United States Army. The Quartermaster School became a part of the Continental Army Command service school system and was also selected to serve as the home of the Quartermaster Corps and Corps Historian. In July 1973, Fort Lee came under the control of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.

1950 and the post was re-designated as Fort Lee. Immediately troops began Quartermaster training for the Korean War and continued for the next three years. employees worked at Fort Lee in 2008. The average number of military family members is 3,450. Fort Lee also supports more than 55,000 retirees and their Families. Fort Lee Tomorrow As a result of the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 2005, Fort Lee is expanding. The installation will nearly double in size and the daily population is expected to rise from 32,000 to nearly 47,000. With the grand openings of the Sustainment Center of Excellence and the Army Logistics University already completed this year, in the coming years, Fort Lee will welcome the Ordnance Center and School, Transportation Center and School and the Defense Contract Management Agency, among others. Fort Lee will also merge the culinary training centers from Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill., resulting in combined service training at the Joint Center of Excellence for Culinary Training. The Lackland AFB Transportation Training School is also scheduled to move to the installation, creating the Joint Center for Consolidated Transportation Management Training. Fort Lee Vehicle Registration Fort Lee requires residents and employees to register all motor vehicles, including motorcycles and mopeds operated on Fort Lee with the Vehicle Registration Office, which is located in the Soldier Support Center Bldg .3400 at 16th St. & B Ave. The hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for DoD decals and extended passes. Visitors are required to enter the Lee Gate Inspection pit for admittance. Motorcycle Registration Requirements Motorcycle operators must show proof of completion of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Experienced Rider Course to register their motorcycles. The Utility Deposit Waiver Program (UDWP) is for active duty service members who Permanent Change of Station (PCS) transfer to Fort Lee. The waiver is for new customers of Columbia Gas of Virginia and/or Dominion Virginia Power and must be requested within 10 working days of hook up. The UDWP may cover up to $200 of the security deposit fees and be used only once during one PCS tour. First, you must locate your residence. Then, contact Columbia Gas (800) 543-8911 or Dominion Virginia Power (866) 366-4357 to open or transfer the account into your name. The account must be in the service member’s name. Once your account is open, bring the following to Army Community Service for processing: • Resident address • Account number(s) • Valid military ID card with at least 14 months remaining until the expiration date or a copy of reenlistment paperwork (exception: military family members can obtain the waiver for their sponsor with a valid Power of Attorney). • Copy of PCS orders (must be permanent party) to Fort Lee. If the orders do not show the service member has family members, then an additional signed commander’s statement to reside off post is required for E-5 and below. The Inbound Personal Property Office arranges delivery of inbound household goods and whole baggage shipments. It is not a delivery point for these items. FORT LEE OFFERS TEMPORARY LODGING, ON-BASE HOUSING, HELP IN FINDING HOUSING OFF-BASE Lodging Services Fort Lee Lodging provides outstanding accommodations, quality customer service and reasonable prices to military and Department of Defense civilians reporting to the area in a permanent change of station status. Advance reservations can be made by calling (804) 733-4100 ext/ 2000 or 2001 or toll-free at (800) 403-8533. Six two-bedroom apartments for families are available, as well as 40 extended stay rooms. Laundry facilities are available on-site. Pets are not allowed in the lodging facilities. Pets must be boarded at one of the off-post kennels. There are a limited number of hotels and motels in the local area that accept pets, so it is advised to make arrangements as soon as possible. Those who choose to stay in an off-post hotel because of pets might not be eligible for lodging expense reimbursable. Housing Options Fort Lee is implementing the First Sergeant’s Barracks Initiative for Enlisted Unaccompanied Personnel Housing and the Residential Communities Initiative for family housing on post. This process include floor plans, photo tours, policies and procedures, programs, and services, waiting list information, BAH, forms, contact information, utilities, schools, maps and much more.

The Villages at Fort Lee – On-Post Family Housing Fort Lee Family Housing, now called The Villages at Fort Lee, transitioned to a privatized partner in September 2007. Congress passed legislation in 1996, which allowed the Services to privatize family housing and to use allotted Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) to pay for the funding of housing projects. In the Army, we refer to this initiative as the “Residential Communities Initiative” or RCI. This partnership is between the U.S. Army and the private company East Army Properties (Pinnacle, Hunt and Falcon Properties) called Fort Lee Commonwealth Communities, LLC. In September 1998, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, (OSD) published guidance requiring Service Members in privatized housing to be responsible for the utilities they consume. OSD also established procedures that allow Service Members who conserve to be financially rewarded and those who did not conserve to be billed for their usage over an allotted baseline. To better understand the billing process, we have conducted a “Mock Billing” program. Through the “Mock Billing” period, residents became knowledgeable on how much gas and electricity they consumed each month, and worked to conserve our natural resources. This provided an opportunity for residents to learn and teach their dependants on

Single Service Member Housing The First Sergeant’s Barracks Initiative was implemented at Fort Lee in March 2008. Single permanent-party service members new to Fort Lee should call (804) 734-3977. The Centralized Barracks Management (CBM) office is located in the dayroom of Bldg. P-8401 at the corner of A Avenue and 27th St. Personnel in the rank of E-6 and above and considered bonafide bachelors will be housed off the installation. Certificates of Non-availability (CNA) will be provided by the Housing Division upon arrival. Ten Bachelor Officer Quarters (BOQs) and Senior Enlisted Quarters (SEQs) are available. These units have two bedrooms and the units are furnished. Single permanent-party Soldiers in the grades of E-5 and below are normally housed in the installation’s barracks buildings P-

8401, P-8402, P-8150, P-9000 and P-9003. A new 64-person barracks is being constructed near the existing facilities that will provide the Army standard of one Soldier – one room (OSOR).

the importance of conserving energy. All home baselines were developed based on specific criteria for each home type, with full consideration for that home’s energy efficient attributes. No residents were charged for utilities during the “Mock Billing” period. Fort Lee Commonwealth Communities was formed to provide convenient on-post housing and is professionally managed by Pinnacle Management Company. The Villages at Fort Lee currently offers 1,182 homes located in five different villages. Homes range in size from two to five bedrooms and offer open floor plans. Each village caters to a specified rank band. Through the RCI Initial Development Period (IDP), the development of 651 new homes, two new villages and three new neighborhood centers will be completed in late 2011 with a total of almost 1,500 residences available. About 1,380 units will be designated for enlisted personnel, with 120 designated for officers.

The concept of upgrading and adding units is also being applied to the community centers. A splash park is being added to the main community center on Sisisky Blvd. and Jackson Cir. Community Center. Both Sisisky and Jackson Cir. have fitness centers and a children’s play area for residents to use Monday - Fri 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Additionally, Jackson Cir. also has a cyber room for residents to bring in their laptop and utilize wireless internet. The Jefferson Terrace village has a neighborhood center which offers a place for residents to visit during the day. As a result of upgrades to housing and additional units being built, the status of availability fluctuates. The average wait time for on-base family housing is about six months, but can vary greatly due to rank and bedroom requirements, as well as the status of the building projects. The Monroe Manor neighborhood is undergoing a relocation and demolition project. All duplexes are scheduled to be demolished by Jul 2010, with new construction in Monroe beginning Dec 2009. Many of the residents will be relocated to other housing areas which will increase waiting times for incoming personnel. Applications for housing can be submitted before arriving at Fort Lee and service members can be added to the appropriate quarter’s waiting list. Once a service member signs into their unit a home can be assigned. Housing is offered first-come, first-served. Next, buyers should consider whether they want to move into an existing home or build a new one. Though many people relish the sensation of living in a brand-new residence, existing homes, on average, are less expensive and come with more finished amenities. Older homes are more likely to have decks, fences, landscaping and lawns, which means the new occupants do not have to take the time and money to put those things in themselves. Time and energy may then go into exploring your new community, rather than the rake, tiller, hammer and nails. Still, some homeowners enjoy doing the upkeep work. But, in most cases, the decision to buy or build becomes much more subjective: whether the “right” existing home lies in the “right” location. Some buyers may identify an established neighborhood as the one in which they want to live and that means they will have to choose from listed homes or wait until others become available. Families always have to keep the kids in mind, and that often makes the location decision more critical. Does the prospective neighborhood offer plenty of playmates, playgrounds and a community center? Is it safe? What about the school system? Many buyers base their decisions on the quality of area schools. In many ways, shopping for homes is not very different from shopping for cars: Everyone fears picking out a lemon. Although recent laws require real estate agents to disclose any known defects in a property, buyers must still be careful. A home inspection prior to closing is a good way to protect yourself from future surprises. It is also a good idea to visit the local police station and ask them about the crime rate for the neighborhood you are thinking of buying in. That information may be available at the HSO as well. Several home-buying options available to both buyers and sellers may help ease the chore of finding the right roof under which to rest your head. In a buyer agency, the buyer signs an agreement with the agent. It basically says the agent represents the buyer instead of the seller. A seller agency, in contrast, means the agency works for the seller. Finally, with a dual agency, the staff represents both the buyer and the seller.

Several childcare and youth programs are available for the children of military and civilian personnel assigned to Fort Lee, providing care for children ages four weeks to 12 years and access to youth programs for school-aged children. Within the scope of Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS), programs are provided through the Child Development Center (CDC), Family Child Care (FCC) providers, residing both on and off the installation, School Age Services (SAS), Middle School and Teen (MS&T) program, Youth Sports & Fitness (YSF), Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills (SKIES), School Liaison Services (SLS), Outreach Services (OS) and MWR Partnership Program. MS&T, YSF and SKIES programs are available to retired military personnel as well. Children/youth must be registered through the CYSS Central Registration Office in Bldg. 10612 prior to participating in CYSS programs. The FCC program provides training and certification for providers, while the FCC staff monitors their homes as well. Each FCC childcare home operates as a small business, and childcare fees vary according to contracted services between the provider and the parent. Youth Sports & Fitness Program The Youth Sports & Fitness (YSF) Program offers a variety of sports and fitness activities, such as basketball, soccer, football, baseball and cheerleading for children ages three to 18. Kenner Army Health Clinic Provides Health Services for Fort Lee Personnel The Kenner Army Health Clinic proudly serves the Fort Lee community with primary health care for all TRICARE Prime beneficiaries. Kenner provides a full array of outpatient primary health care services for service members and their families. The clinic uses network civilian health care partners to provide specialty care and inpatient hospitalization. A Primary Care Manager (PCM) referral and an authorization from HealthNet is required prior to any outpatient civilian care, exception is Emergency Room care. Urgent Care requires a referral and an authorization prior to the visit. This authorization facilitates payment of the claim. Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, McDonald Army Health Center at Fort Eustis and the Health Clinic at Langley Air Force Base are additional military medical treatment facilities that serve our beneficiaries. Kenner offers shuttle service to most of these facilities. Kennerâ€™s routine operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sick call for active duty Soldiers is from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kenner is closed Thursday afternoons after 12 p.m. in the months with five Thursdays for training. Kenner is closed on

weekends and federal holidays. After hours, Kenner patients have access to an on-call primary care manager by calling the administrative officer of the day (AOD) at (804) 734-9000. The AOD will note your information and contact the on-call provider. The on-call provider will return your call and assist you in getting the proper care. In an emergency, dial 911. Emergencies are medical conditions that pose a threat to life, limb or eyesight. Emergencies should be treated immediately and emergency room visits are covered under your TRICARE benefits. Kenner has no emergency services. Kenner Services Kenner provides a full range of out-patient services to include adult and pediatric primary care. They also provide limited specialty care to include optometry, orthopedics, physical therapy, preventive medicine, community mental health (active duty only) and social work. Who is eligible for TRICARE? Active duty and retired members and their families, and survivors of all uniformed services who are not eligible for Medicare are all eligible for TRICARE. Reservists on active duty are covered by TRICARE (amount of coverage is based on length of orders) and their family members are covered when their reservist’s orders are for more than 30 days. Active duty service members (including reservists) must update their DEERS information and enroll in TRICARE upon

When an active duty service member arrives at a new duty station, he or she must update their DEERS and update their enrollment in TRICARE Prime. Active duty personnel have TRICARE Prime and are assigned their own primary care manager team based on their work location. This guarantees that active duty service members receive medical care in military clinics and hospitals and the care is near their workplace. Once you have done that, you are encouraged to go to www. TRICAREOnline.com and register to book your primary care appointments online. If the service member has family members, their DEERS and TRICARE information must also be updated. Family members and retirees under 65 may choose among three TRICARE options based on which plan best fits their specific needs. TRICARE Prime: With this option, most health care is provided by a military treatment facility (MTF) and supplemented by our TRICARE Network civilian providers around the MTF. (All active duty service members and activated reservists/National Guardsmen must enroll in TRICARE Prime when they report to a new duty station.) There is no enrollment fee for TRICARE Prime for Active Duty Family Members (ADFMs), but they must complete an enrollment form. Family members of reservists with orders for more than 30 days may enroll in TRICARE Prime upon activation. Beneficiaries choosing TRICARE Prime have a Primary Care Manager who coordinates your health care needs and refers you to a specialist when you need one. The Primary Care Manager also: • Provides and coordinates your routine health care. • Maintains your health records. • Refers you to specialists, if necessary (specialty care must be arranged and approved by your Primary Care Manager). Your best option is the MTF or Clinic Pharmacy where there is no cost to you for prescriptions. With the TMOP (TRICARE Mail Order Pharmacy), you can receive up to a 90-day supply of your medication â€“ generics for $3 or name-brand for $9. Your medication is delivered postagepaid to your door through the U.S. Mail. This option works well for maintenance medications (including birth control pills) that are used on a regular basis. TMOP cannot be used by individuals with Other Health Insurance. TRICARE Network Pharmacies are pharmacies in town that have contracted with TRICARE to fill your prescriptions. The co-pay for a 30-day supply is $3 for generics and $9 for namebrand drugs. The TRICARE Pharmacy Network now extends coast-to-coast, so if you are traveling and need to use a network pharmacy, it is no longer necessary to pay the full price upfront and seek reimbursement. If these options are not available, you may use a non-Network Pharmacy, but your out-of-pocket costs will be higher. There is an annual deductible for this option plus a $9 or 20 percent cost share (whichever is greater). You may have to pay the bill upfront and then file a claim for reimbursement. If you are seeking a prescription for a drug that is not on the TRICARE formulary, then your out-of-pocket expenses are increased to $22 through either a 30-day supply at a local network pharmacy or a 90-day supply through TMOP. As always, you and the government save money when you use the MTF and TMOP options to fill your prescriptions.

There are a number of services on-post that offers military members and their families the convenience of doing their errands locally. From veterinarian and postal services to banking and shopping, Fort Lee offers military members on-post service with a smile. Defense Commissary Agency The commissary at Fort Lee is open six days a week and stocks a large variety of food and household supplies. It is located behind the post’s service station. Fort Lee’s Commissary is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early bird shoppers can purchase 15 items or less Tuesday through Friday between 7:30 and 9 a.m. For more information, call (804) 765-2254.

Service Station The Service Station is located on A Avenue and Sixth Street. In addition to gasoline, this facility provides repair services to include Virginia State inspections, new tire sales and batteries. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Package and Beverage Store/Class VI Fort Lee’s main Class VI store is located on the end of the Main PX. It is a separate facility with its own entrance. The Class VI carries several varieties of beer, wine and liqueurs as well as soft drinks. The PXtra has a limited selection of Class VI items.

Veterinary Services The Fort Lee Veterinary Services has several missions ranging from care of the Military Working Dogs and basic pet care to the inspection of food supplies. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed the last working day of the month for inventory. Animals brought into the clinic must be in a carrier or on a leash. The office is located in Bldg. 11025, 38th St. and E Ave., past the Criminal Investigation Services building and across the street from Defense Commissary Agency. Pet care is restricted to active military, their family members, retirees and 100 percent DAV. It is limited to preventative care, treatment of some diseases, electronic tagging (micro-chipping) and health certificates.

Concession Operations There are several concession operations at both the Main PX and the PXtra. Those at the Main Exchange include the Barber Shop, Beauty Shop, Cellular Phone Sales and Service, Candy Shop, Optical Shop, Specialty Awards Shop, Enhancements and GNC. Concessions in the PXtra include a Barber Shop, Coffee Shop, Internet Café, Shoe Shine Shop, KC Fashions and Shoe/ Boot Repair, Laundry and Dry Cleaning, Long Distance Phone Center, Computer Repair and Barracks Phone Service. Food Courts and Eateries There are two food courts, an AAFES cafeteria, a standalone Burger King and a few portable food kiosks managed by or through AAFES on Fort Lee. The Food Court in the Main PX offers a wide variety of food choices, to include Charley Steakery, Cinnabon, Robin Hood Deli and Anthony’s Pizza. It is open every day of the week. The PXtra Food Court offers Anthony’s Pizza and Robin Hood Deli. Burger King Burger King, Bldg. 4309, on Mahone Ave. is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Residents’ pets must be micro chipped, registered with the clinic and have a valid rabies certificate. Fort Lee housing regulations prohibit residents from having more than two pets in family housing areas. Pets of personnel residing on post must be registered with the post’s veterinarian upon arrival at Fort Lee. In addition to registration, these pets must also be microchipped for identification in case they are lost. Currently, the clinic uses the “Home Again Chip.” Microchips are very small information devices that are injected beneath the skin between the shoulders. These chips have the owner’s name, address and phone number. This information can be accessed by scanning the animal with a small reader. Call (804) 734-2446 for more information.

Thrift Shop and Homemaker’s Boutique For those who are trying to save a little money, the post offers a Thrift Shop and Homemaker’s Boutique. Sponsored by the Fort Lee Area Spouses’ Club, the facility is located in Building 5105 on the corner of Lee and B avenues. The Thrift Shop has clothing, books, toys, appliances and household goods available for sale, while the Homemaker’s Boutique sells handcrafted merchandise made by military personnel and their families. The shops are open Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fort Lee Post Office The Fort Lee post office is located at 1401 Mahone Ave. next to the PXtra. The official military mail post office entrance is located in the rear of the building, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. In addition to the standard services, such as stamp sales, express mail and money orders, the staff is familiar with the many unique mailing needs of military families. This is especially helpful for those mailing packages overseas.

These facilities range from a hotel and beach club at Fort Story, which is located next to Virginia Beach, to the Fishing Pier on the York River at Cheatham Naval Annex. The Annex, Fort Eustis and Fort Story also have lodges and cabins for rent, while Fort Eustis has a mini park featuring a go-cart track and an aquatics center. Auto Crafts Auto Crafts repair facility offers rental of 10-slot bays and three-vehicle lifts for minor repairs to vehicles. This self-help facility is open to authorized users and has a trained instructor on duty to provide automobile repair assistance. Patrons may use tools to assist with repairs while on the premises. Short- and long-term vehicle storage is also available. The Auto Crafts shop is located in Bldg. 9035 behind the Bowling Center on Battle Drive. Battle Drive Pool This outdoor pool is operational Memorial Day to Labor Day and provides swimming for recreation, troop training and Red Cross Water Safety courses. Authorized patrons include military members, retirees, DoD civilians and their dependents with proper ID. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Swim lessons are available to authorized users ages 5 years and above. Reservations for pool parties are accepted with at least a two-week advanced notice and a $25 deposit. Battle Drive pool is conveniently located behind the Lee Club off of Battle Drive. show features live theater presentations with music to delight both young and old alike. Tickets are sold at the box office just prior to the show and are only $4. The Lee Playhouse offers special shows for Fort Lee trainees, as well as evening and matinee performances for the entire Fort Lee community and surrounding areas. Everyone from the Fort Lee community is invited to participate. No stage experience is necessary and all are welcome to audition, work back stage or help with audience management. Picture Perfect (Custom Frame Shop) The Picture Perfect framing facility is the perfect place to have all prints, needlepoint pieces, puzzles and certificates matted and framed. Additionally, numerous arts and crafts classes are offered during various times of the year to include card club, acrylic and digital scrapbooking.
