What really gets under my skin: What really gets under my skin is complaining andnegativity.Ibelieveinfocusingonsolutionsratherthanproblems, andIvaluebeing aroundpeoplewho bring positiveenergy and aforward-thinking mindset. Negativity holds people back, but optimism and effort move us forwardinlife, business and community.
At work: Iprovide connectivity across business divisions so we areseizing opportunitiesfor operational excellence and growth. Iget to work on marketing, communications, organizationalandbusinessdevelopment and our strategic plan, which Ihavefoundtobeafun blend. Professionalgoalinfiveyears:Ihopeto continue with my grandparents and the company’scorevaluessowecancontinue to serveour maritime and defenseindustrialbaseforanother75years
Advicetoyoungpeople: Get involved in thelocalchapters of industry or trade organizations.Theyare basically leadershiplabs.Yougettoobservedifferenttypes of leadership and communicationstyles andwill likelystumble on someone(or multiplepeople)thatyouwanttoemulate. Theseorganizationsareusuallyindesperate need of people willing to roll up their sleevesand do thework, so if you’re willingtocommit thetime, you can uncover

opportunitiestotry on your ownleadershiphatandgrowthoseskills, evenbefore youare in an official leadership position withinyourownorganization.
The one thing I’dchangeabout HamptonRoads: Iwould love to see astronger regional brandfor attracting tourists and recruitingorretainingourworkforce. Each city brings unique strength to the table, but the regionisgreater than the sum of itsparts.
