VCW celebrates 30th Anniversary Extravaganza in Norfolk By Sam Saunders

In 1996, Virginia Championship Wrestling (VCW) ran its first professional wrestling event in Hampton Roads. Less than three months after the biggest show in company history with the 2026 Liberty Lottery, VCW’s 30th Anniversary Extravaganza celebrates the past, present and future of Virginia’s largest independent wrestling promotion on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026 at the Norfolk Masonic Temple. The historical show advertises seven matches, including two championship defenses. Front row is sold out, but ringside and general admission tickets are available online at SimpleTix.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with bell time at 7:30 p.m. The Norfolk Masonic Temple is located at 7001 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23505. After defeating Rex Lawless at Liberty Lottery to win the Virginia Heavyweight Championship for the second time, “The Hoss of All Hosses” Devantes will defend his title against The Reason with Jerry Stephanitisis. The Reason has excelled in VCW since 2008, including reigns with the VCW Liberty Championship and VCW Tag Team Championships, but the Virginia Heavyweight Championship has eluded him. Stephanitsis hopes his client will win the VCW Triple Crown at the company’s 30th anniversary and take Devantes’ championship away. But Devantes plans to establish himself as the present and future of VCW with his first title defense in Norfolk. After losing the aforementioned heavyweight title match to Devantes, Rex Lawless looks to refocus and make a statement with a big one-on-one victory at the Norfolk Masonic Temple. But standing in his way is the return of former WWE wrestler, “The Professor” Andre Chance. Chance has been absent from VCW for 15 years, where he previously wrestled as one-half of the Bravado Brothers. During his absence, Chance wrestled in WWE for five years, forming “Chase U” and winning the NXT Tag Team Championship. Chance is not the only special guest from VCW’s past that will be at VCW’s 30th Anniversary Extravaganza, as legendary ring announcer Gary Michael Cappetta will introduce the show’s main event. Cappetta’s résumé includes stints in WWE, AWA, NWA, WCW and ROH. At Liberty Lottery, Myron Malone outlasted 19 other wrestlers in the event’s titular elimination match. Malone entered the match as the first entrant and last eliminated his biggest rival in VCW, Commander King, who lost the Liberty Championship earlier in the night to The Boar. After the match, Malone announced he would use his guaranteed title opportunity to challenge The Boar at VCW’s 30th Anniversary Extravaganza. VB Wave Trolley is ready for Neptune Festival weekend Press Release

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will operate the VB Wave trolley in support of the 52nd annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend along the Oceanfront from Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27. With three trolley routes, the VB Wave makes it easy to explore the 35-block event without the hassles of parking. Route 30 along Atlantic Avenue will operate about every 15 minutes from 8 a.m.-2 a.m., except on Saturday, when service begins at 2 p.m. due to the Neptune 8K race on Atlantic Avenue and the Neptune Festival Grand Parade. Route 31, serving the Virginia Aquarium and campgrounds, will operate about every 20 minutes from 9:30 a.m.-11:10 p.m. on all three days. Route 35, connecting the Oceanfront with points along Shore Drive, will operate about every 30 minutes from 8 a.m.-12:30 a.m. Delays are possible due to events along the Oceanfront on Saturday. The lineup for Route 31 at 3rd Street and Atlantic Avenue will be moved to 19th and Parks until after 2 p.m. Oceanfront buses will also see delays due to increased traffic for the entire Neptune Festival. HRT is prepared to add trolleys during peak periods as demand warrants.

But with The Boar now holding the Liberty Championship, Malone finds himself across the ring from an unfamiliar, seasoned opponent. Commander King had a rough night at the Portsmouth Pavilion in July when he lost his 595-day Liberty Championship reign and finished as the runner-up in the Liberty Lottery match. But King’s growth as a performer and defenses over his record-breaking title reign has transformed him into one of VCW’s most must-see talents. King’s technical and physical ability will be put to the test on Oct. 3 when he faces one of VCW’s most athletic and agile wrestlers, Chris Slade. Slade’s in-ring style makes him one of VCW’s most underrated wrestlers, as shown in the past when challenging for the Virginia Heavyweight Championship against Rex Lawless or Joseph Keys. King and Slade’s match could be a glimpse into VCW’s near

future. Joiya Blake wrestled in the biggest match of her career at Liberty Lottery when she fought former WWE wrestler Shotzi Blackheart. The match ended in a no contest, however, when Hyena Hera interfered and attacked both women. Hera explained that her attack was motivated by her belief that she deserved Blake’s opportunity. As a result, a singles match between Blake and Hera has been sanctioned for VCW’s 30th Anniversary Extravaganza. Will Blake get revenge for Hera ruining her match with Blackheart, or will Hera prove that the match should have been hers? A random pairing eight-man tag team showcase is set for the Norfolk Masonic Temple when VCW Tag Team Champions Nice & Smooth team with the Golden Pinky Society against FKAHS (Formerly Known as Hallstars), Julian Powell-Riddick and De’zaun Vivant. With Nice & Smooth just winning the tag team titles at Liberty Lottery, the tag division is in an impressionable position. A strong performance by Nice & Smooth would prove that

they are the rightful champions, but a stronger performance by any other team could be enough proof that they should be the title’s number-one contenders. After winning control of his VCW contract, “Greek God” Papadon and Mr. Pantas have tormented Brandon Scott for months. Scott finally snapped at Liberty Lottery, however, after Papadon threatened Scott’s wife. Scott attacked Papadon and cost them their VCW Tag Team Championship. Later in the night, Scott continued the attack by eliminating both himself and Papadon from the Liberty Lottery match. During an interview with Scott after the show as he left the Portsmouth Pavilion, Mr. Pantas and Papadon ambushed Scott, assaulting him with a kendo stick in the parking lot. Grilled Chicken Kebabs

Recipe adapted from Dinner at the Zoo Prep time: 20 minutes | Marinating time: 1 hour Cook time: 10 minutes | Servings: 4 Marinade: 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar or other vinegar 1/8 cup soy sauce 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon minced garlic salt, to taste pepper, to taste Kebabs: 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 orange bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 small zucchini, cut into 1-inch slices 1 small yellow squash, cut into 1-inch slices 1 red onion, cut into 1-inch pieces 4 wooden skewers 1 tablespoon chopped parsley To make marinade: In large bowl, whisk olive oil, vinegar, soy sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar and garlic. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. To make kebabs: In bowl, toss chicken, bell peppers, zucchini, squash and red onion with marinade. Cover and refrigerate 1-8 hours. Soak wooden skewers in cold water at least 30 minutes to prevent burning. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Thread chicken pieces and vegetables onto skewers, alternating ingredients. Cook 5-7 minutes on each side, or until chicken is cooked through. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.

Steakhouse Hasselback Potatoes

Prep time: 20 minutes | Cook time: 90 minutes Servings: 8 Hasselback Potatoes: 4 Wisconsin Russets (about 1 pound each) 4 tablespoons olive oil 2 tablespoons kosher salt Caramelized Onions: 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 2.2 pounds yellow onions, sliced thin 2 teaspoons kosher salt 1/4 cup cognac or brandy (optional) To Plate: 1 cup shredded cheddar jack cheese 12 ounces hickory smoked bacon, cooked and cut into 2-inch pieces 1/2 cup sour cream 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped Preheat oven to 400 F. To make Hasselback potatoes: Using vegetable brush, wash potatoes. Dry well and place on cutting board. Arrange handles of two wooden spoons so they are alongside potatoes to prevent knife from slicing all the way through. Make several cuts down each potato about 1/4 inch apart. Repeat with remaining potatoes and arrange on baking sheet fitted with wire rack. Drizzle with olive oil, making sure some oil is in slices. Sprinkle salt on each potato. Bake 90 minutes, or until potatoes are crispy on outside, fluffy in center and internal temperature is 205 F. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. To make caramelized onions: In heavy-bottomed shallow pan over medium heat, melt butter. Add sliced onions and season with salt. Continue to cook, stirring regularly until onions are deep brown and caramelized. Deglaze pan with cognac or brandy, if desired, scraping caramelized bits off bottom of pan. Remove from heat and set aside. To assemble, sprinkle potatoes with cheese, about 1/4 cup per spud, ensuring some cheese is in potato slices. Place cooked bacon pieces in some slices. Return potatoes to oven for about 5 minutes, just long enough to heat potatoes slightly and melt cheese. Place potatoes on serving platter and garnish with caramelized onions, sour cream and chopped chives.

Recipe courtesy of “Cookin’ Savvy” | Servings: 4-6 1 package slider buns 8 slices Swiss cheese 8 slices salami 8 slices ham or other deli meat 1 stick butter, melted

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese 1 teaspoon onion powder 1 teaspoon garlic powder everything bagel seasoning (optional) Heat oven to 350 F. Halve slider buns, creating top and bottom portions. Set top portion aside, leaving bottom portion in original container. Place bottom portion and container in baking dish to prevent sticking. Layer Swiss cheese, salami and ham then cover with top buns. Mix melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Parmesan cheese, onion powder and garlic powder. Pour over sliders. Cover with foil and bake 15 minutes then remove foil, sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, if desired, and bake, uncovered, 10 minutes.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) will present All Out 2026 on pay-per-view and HBO Max on Saturday, September 26. Emanating from the NOW Arena in Chicago, IL, a number of high-stakes matches have been announced. In the night’s main event, AEW World Champion “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay will defend his title against AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley of the Death Riders. Ospreay realized his dream of becoming AEW World Champion back in August at All In: London in front of his home country. AEW brought their weekly Dynamite telecast back to Norfolk, Virginia and to the Chartway Arena on the campus of Old Dominion University on September 16. Thousands of fans gathered to take in the action. Ospreay and Moxley were on opposing sides in Norfolk as Ospreay teamed with United

Empire member Francesco Akira and AEW National Champion Andrade El Idolo against Moxley, Pac, and Gabe Kidd. Moxley was victorious for his team by locking in the bulldog choke on Akira for the submission. The Dynamite broadcast kicked off with the AEW World Tag Team Champions Adam Copeland and Christian Cage aligning with TNT Champion Darby Allin and Steven Borden to face “The Jet” Kevin Knight, “Protostar” Kyle Fletcher, and FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler). Borden, the son of pro wrestling legend Sting, competed in just his second ever Dynamite match on that evening. In a chaotic brawl, Borden and Allin won it with the Coffin Death Drop maneuver on Harwood. At All Out, a number one contender’s bout has been signed between Borden/Allin and Fletcher/Knight. Whichever team wins that bout will earn a future Men’s World Tag Team Championship match. Those very titles are being defended by Copeland/Cage against

both FTR and The Young Bucks at All Out in a 3-way Ladders match. Tables and chairs happen to also be legal weapons in that contest. The Women’s World Tag Championships will be on the line at All Out as current champions The Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor) will defend against former champions Divine Dominion (Lena Kross and Megan Bayne) in a Chicago Street Fight. In Norfolk, Kross utilized Bayne as a distraction to hit Hayter with a pipe out of the referee’s sight and get the win. After the match, Alex Windsor made the save to run off the challengers. There was a scheduled interview with Swerve Strickland and The New Level (Kofi and Austin Creed), current AEW World Trios Champions, but the champions were attacked by The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona). The New Level will defend their titles against new number one contenders “Hangman” Adam Page,

FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Throughout 2026, the online platforms that support your TRICARE benefit are switching from DS Logon to myAuth. myAuth is a simpler, more streamlined login authentication application. Many platforms, including milConnect, ID Card Office Online, and contractor portals, have already made this switch. On Sept. 23, the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal will make this switch. This means you’ll use myAuth (ONLINE AT https:// myaccess.dmdc.osd.mil/identitymanagement/app/login/myauth) to log in to the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to access health records from care at military hospitals and clinics. When the transition to myAuth occurs, you’ll have multiple options for logging in. Substance use disorders can lead to problems in all aspects of a person’s life, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. TRICARE offers comprehensive services to treat the different ways substance use disorders present in patients. “Substance use disorder treatment works best when we meet each patient where they are,” said Thomas Turnbaugh, LCSWC, mental health specialist, at the Defense Health Agency. “TRICARE covers a full range of care, so you can find the right level of support for your recovery.” These covered services give you or your family members the resources to seek help when you need it most. Most of all, they can help you get back to daily life. This article reviews what TRICARE covers, from hospital stays to outpatient care.

What TRICARE covers TRICARE covers many kinds of care, including hospital stays, outpatient programs, detoxification, and medication-based treatment. Your care plan depends on your needs. Your provider will work with you to choose the best plan. EMERGENCY HOSPITAL CARE

You may need emergency hospital care if you have a medical or mental health crisis. If you have a mental health crisis, call 911 and seek treatment at the nearest hospital. You don’t need pre-authorization for emergency care. TRICARE covers care at the closest hospital. If you need more care after the crisis ends, you must get approval. PLANNED HOSPITAL CARE

You may need planned hospital care if you don’t have a crisis. This type of care needs pre-authorization first. TRICARE covers hospital stays to treat mental health and substance use disorders. INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAMS
