Oceana Air Show returns to skies Sept. 20 - 21

BY CATHY HEIMER Jet Observer The Naval Air Station Oceana Air Show is back! After sequestration and budget cuts forced the cancellation of the 2013 show, performers will again take to the skies above Virginia Beach Sept. 20 - 21.This year’s show, with free admission and parking, will feature the best of naval aviation, top civilian performers, as well as honoring the Navy Safe Harbor program and wounded warriors. “The 2014 Oceana Air Show will be the same air show that you’ve always seen but bigger and better than ever,” said NAS Oceana Commanding Officer Capt. Kit Chope. “We have some longtime Oceanafan favorites and we have some new and exciting performers,” said Chope. Fan favorites include the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Team, Blue Angels, Shockwave Jet Truck, Bill Leff and Geico Skytypers. “It is a very unique opportunity to reach the American public in a way that very few other opportunities allow. It is the ‘bang for the buck’ that is extraordinary … to allow the American public to see who we are and what we do is important. This will be the sole opportunity that many people will ever have to look in the eyes of a Sailor or Marine and see our nation’s military for who we are,” said Chope.
