HEARTS REIGNITE AT DAM NECK’S CHAPEL BY THE SEA BY CARRIE ANDERSON The Jet Observer Peggy and Joe Connor have been married for 64 years. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, they decided to plan a romantic night with 21 other couples who braved the snow and freezing temperatures to renew their “I dos” at the Dam Neck Annex Chapel by the Sea vow renewal ceremony Feb. 12. The Connors said their “I dos” next to couples young and old, newly married and married most of their lives, including Jeremiah Nganga and his wife
Peris, who first exchanged wedding vows four years ago. Held every year since 2011, the ceremony enables couples to renew their commitment to each other by reinforcing the vows they made on their wedding day. “The ceremony emphasizes the importance of community and spiritual support for marriage and family and facilitating the Navy core value of commitment as it relates to marriage and the home. Our Navy Core Values of honor, courage and commitment begin in the home,” said Naval Air
Station Oceana Command Chaplain Chris Hester. During the ceremony, couples like the Connors and the Ngangas gather at the chapel, then there is a prayer, a reading of scripture and a brief reflection on marriage. This is followed by a Protestant renewal of vows, conducted by Hester this year, then a Roman Catholic renewal of vows, conducted by Lt.
