One way this was accomplished was by changing the kinds of bulbs used in the water tower spotlights. From NAS Oceana Public Affairs The Commanding OfďŹ cer of NAS Oceana is kicking off the inaugural “Energy Challenge.â€? All NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex and NALF Fentress tenant Commands and facilities are eligible to compete in a variety of energy awareness challenges to earn points.The Command that accrues the most points will be awarded $50,000 to go toward a Public Works project of their choice. The Challenge is designed to promote energy awareness while encouraging all tenant commands, facilities and their personnel to adopt energy saving behaviors. The Challenge begins today and runs through June 30, with the next challenge season scheduled for the second half of 2016. The Energy Challenge seeks to document tenants’ energy performance and program involvement while rewarding their team’s initiative, innovation and teamwork.

The ďŹ rst milestone of this Challenge is registration. There are three scheduled registration sessions and one conference call for those unable to attend or located in a remote location (Navy Operational Support Centers.) During these sessions, registrants will be provided Energy Challenge materials and an explanation of the Energy Challenge process followed by a question and answer period. These sessions will empower your Command or facility team with a greater understanding of the Energy Challenge process along with a description of how points are awarded. To start strong in this Energy Challenge, it is important to select an enthusiastic and energetic representative to spearhead your Command’s Energy Challenge efforts.
