Whether your visit is temporary or longterm, we hope you’ll enjoy all the things our installation and the local area have to offer. Fort Lee is situated alongside the Tri-Cities of Virginia – Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell – as well as the counties of Chesterfield, Prince George and Dinwiddie. The Army garrison shares many similarities with its neighbors. It is a diverse community comprised of service members and civilian personnel, as well as a home to hundreds of military families who reside in its housing areas. Over the past decade, Fort Lee has experienced enormous growth, mostly as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure directives and the installation’s designation as the Army Sustainment Center of Excellence – a focused training base for military supply, subsistence, maintenance, munitions, transportation and more. Those decisions sparked a massive base modernization mission with a budget of more than $1.2 billion. In addition to new training

facilities, administrative areas, dining facilities and barracks, Fort Lee has experienced phenomenal growth among its support facilities for military families. Fort Lee has witnessed significant changes to its population as well; much of it due to the realignment of military organizations from other parts of the nation. In addition to the Combined Arms Support Command, Team Lee now consists of the Army Logistics University, the U.S. Army Ordnance School, the U.S. Army Quartermaster School and the U.S. Army Transportation School. Its tenants include the headquarters of the Defense Commissary Agency, Kenner Army Health Clinic, a Military Entrance Processing Station and the Defense Contract Management Agency. Fort Lee supports around 26,400 people on post and just over 56,500 off post, including members from all branches of the military service, their families, government civilians and contractors, military retirees and reservists. Furthermore, as many as
70,000 troops will pass through Fort Lee’s classrooms each year, making it the third largest training site in the Army. These are the most significant statistics of all … Fort Lee fully recognizes its tremendous responsibility and the privilege to provide the most comprehensive training and quality of life services possible for the members of the military family who will pass through its gates. On a final note, the installation command team asks all Fort Lee visitors to exercise caution as they travel throughout post. Slow down, especially around any marching troop formations, construction sites and housing areas. Be aware also that the installation prohibits the use of handheld electronic devices while operating a vehicle as a safety precaution and in compliance with DOD regulations. Fort Lee welcomes you. GETTING SETTLED MILITARY IN-PROCESSING PERMANENT PARTY The Soldier Support Center is located at 1401 B Avenue in Building 3400. It is the first stop all permanent party Army personnel will need to make when reporting to Fort Lee during duty hours. This includes U.S. Army Medical Department Activity and U.S. Army Dental Command Soldiers. Other services, to include Army recruiters and MEPS cadre, should contact their gaining units for specific instructions. The staff signs Soldiers in from permanent change of station (PCS) moves and leave, starts their financial paperwork, schedules first appointments, and directs them to their new unit. In addition, the staff provides service to all active-duty military, retirees and their family members, as well as Department of Defense Civilians requiring ID cards for employment. This includes registering eligible personnel in the DEERS system, which gives them access to medical care, the Post Exchange system and the commissary. Personnel requiring a new ID should bring with them all required supporting documentation (such as birth certificate, marriage certificate and power of attorney). In most circumstances, sponsors are required to accompany family members. The Soldier Support Center is open for general operations 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

After hours, permanent party should report to the Installation Operations Center, building 1107, to sign in off leave and receive required instructions for the next duty day. When arriving at the Soldier Support Center, parking in the 13th Street lot is recommended.
FORT LEE LODGING The IHG Army Hotel at Fort Lee is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has more than 1,400 rooms to support the installation’s training mission. The facility provides standard and extended stay rooms and temporary family suites to accommodate military families on PCS orders. Pets also are allowed in the lodging facility with payment of a one-time non-refundable fee of $75 for up to five days. If the visit extends beyond five days, there is a $7 charge for each day after for the pet. The facility offers standard studio rooms with one queen bed. Extended stay suites have one queen bed and a pull-out sleeping sofa. Every room has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, iron, ironing board and Wi-Fi. HOUSING SERVICES OFFICE (OFF-POST HOUSING) The Housing Services Office is available to all permanent-party service members, military families and government civilians requiring housing assistance during arrival, departure or anywhere in-between. Its mission is to provide a one-stop center to locate affordable, adequate and available housing. Service members will process through HSO both on arrival to and departure from the installation. Furthermore, the HSO can assist PCSing service members who are looking for housing information at their new duty stations. Military members on permissive temporary duty (TDY) for house hunting, in conjunction with PCS leave, must report to the HSO on the first day of PTDY and receive a housing stamp and date on the DA 31 Leave Form. If the leave form is not properly stamped and dated by housing, finance will charge regular annual leave instead of PTDY. FORT LEE FAMILY HOUSING – A HUNT COMPANIES COMMUNITY (POST HOUSING) Family housing on post is operated and managed by Hunt Companies, which is located at 1510 Sisisky Boulevard. The office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. - noon. Fort Lee Family Housing is an ameni-
ty-rich military community nestled among tall evergreens and mature trees. It is comprised of new and traditional housing in seven distinct villages that exhibit the personality and rich history of Fort Lee and its surrounding area. UNACCOMPANIED PERSONNEL HOUSING Unaccompanied personnel in the grades of E-5 and below are normally housed in the installation’s barracks, buildings P-8401, P-8408 or P-8150. Geographical bachelor housing availability on the installation is granted on a case-by-case basis. Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Soldiers must reside on the installation in their unit’s barracks. AIT students should not bring family members with them while stationed at Fort Lee. Housing for other military students varies depending on a student’s status. Most students are prohibited from bringing family members to Fort Lee. Questions regarding housing policies should be directed to the various schools’ cadre. Barracks 8401 and 8150 provide two-person rooms for grades E-1 through E-4, and single rooms for E-5s. Barracks 8408 consists of 32 modules that house 64 service members and each has his or her own bedroom and shares a bathroom and common area (kitchen). Each space includes a bed, mattress, nightstand, desk, lamp, chair, dining table, refrigerator, microwave and chest. No pets are allowed in the barracks.

Army Emergency Relief (AER) offers emergency financial assistance to all Army personnel, active, retired and their family members in the following categories: food, rent, required travel, utilities, essential car repairs, medical bills, funeral expenses and essential needs in the event that pay is lost or not received. Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) is a process that allows military members, family members, Department of the Army Civilians and retirees to say what’s working and what isn’t, and what they think will fix it. All issues submitted are reviewed for immediate fixes while some will continue up the chain of command until resolved or determined unattainable. Army Family Team Building (AFTB) is an official Army training program that helps develop ready families and ready military members. This program contributes to unit, mission environment and community lifestyle by providing them with information, knowledge and skills vital to the readiness of the force. Living with the Army culture can be challenging, and ATFB will help individuals learn how to translate the military lingo, develop realistic expectations, and learn about military benefits and services available to Army families.
Army Volunteer Corps (AVC) provides assistance in the recruitment, training and recognition of installation volunteers and maintains a bank of volunteer positions and events on the installation and in the local community. Volunteers play an integral role in the lives of service members and their families. Their assistance and teamwork on the installation allows Fort Lee to provide broader quality services. Within ACS, volunteers serve as instructors for Army Family Team Building, prepare welcome packets and lending kits for Relocation Readiness, and help with special events for the Exceptional Family Member Program, Installation Volunteer Program, Family Advocacy and Survivor Outreach Services. help them achieve their individual goals through service to the community.
Employment Readiness Program (ERP) provides support services that help customers make informed decisions while seeking work. This program offers information and referral for local career opportunities, education, training, transition and volunteer positions to give family members the competitive edge needed to secure employment. The ACS Resource Room currently contains eight computer work stations with access to the Internet for use in job assistance, on- and off-post job announcements, employment resource materials, education and scholarship information, training videos and resume templates.
Empowerment – Domestic Violence Program services include safety planning, assistance in obtaining protective orders, coordination of emergency services and accompanying clients to court proceedings and other appointments. The victim advocate provides immediate support and addresses the expressed interest and safety of domestic violence victims.
Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment support program that works with other military and civilian agencies to provide coordinated medical, educational, housing, community support and personnel services to Soldiers who have family members with special needs. This program provides medical and educational advocacy, system navigation for on- and off-post services, resource library services, support groups, training sessions and recreational events.
Family Advocacy Program (FAP) The mission of the Family Advocacy Program is to build healthy families, sustain strong communities and promote family readiness by providing comprehensive approaches to prevention, identification and intervention of child and spouse abuse in military families. A variety of classes are available upon request.
Financial Readiness Program (FRP) offers classes on checkbook management, money management, and budgeting. Information is available on several other financially related topics of interest to military families. Other classes are available upon request.
Information, Referral & Follow-up Program (IR&F) is designed to link active duty personnel, retirees, civilians and family members with other military and civilian support agencies by providing accurate information about these organizations.
Mobilization & Deployment Readiness Program facilitates and maintains a family assistance system to support units, military members and families throughout pre-deployment, deployment and post-deployment. The Mobilization and Deployment Readiness Program offers the Pillow Case Project. It is intended to enhance and strengthen memories between military members and family members during times of deployment or separation by offering a free pillowcase with a photograph of their loved ones. Relocation Readiness Program provides assistance to individuals and families in transition by maintaining current information on installations worldwide and operating a lending closet for temporary use of basic household items. This program also provides assistance with issues/services such as housing, moving overseas, moving with pets, schools, pre-departure assistance, citizenship/immigration, English as a second language classes, sponsorship training and services to multicultural families and support ser-

vices to families who are living separately from the military and civilian sponsor because of mission requirements. Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program is committed to supporting and caring for victims of sexual assault and to ensuring that victims and offenders are treated in accordance with Army policy. This program centers on prevention, immediate response and follow-up services. Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) connects survivors with people who can help them move forward and find strength. Many times after individuals have lost a loved one, there are unresolved issues or questions that may surface months or years after the loss. We are there to help and provide survivors with needed resources. SOS demonstrates the Army’s commitment to families of the fallen.

Fort Lee Thrift Shop The Fort Lee Thrift Shop is a non-profit organization run by the Fort Lee Area Spouses’ Club. The shop is open
Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. -2 p.m., and Thursdays from 4:30 - 7 p.m. The shop is closed on Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday and all holidays. All profits go back into the Fort Lee community to support Soldiers and families. Donations each year are given to worthy local and military-affiliated causes, including scholarships for military family members, Holiday Helper Association, Army Emergency Relief, American Red Cross, Boy and Girl Scouts, the Fisher House and many others. The Fort Lee Thrift Shop is a great place to find household items, clothing, toys, uniforms, small furniture, electronics, books and much more. Items for consigning must be brought in Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:30 - 11:45 a.m.; and Thursdays, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Only 10 clothing items may be consigned per family per day., and only 20 other items per day. RELIGIOUS SERVICES Worship services, uplifting music, fellowship, women’s Bible studies, youth groups, pastoral counseling services and religious education programs for all members of the family are available. The Fort Lee Unit Ministry Team consists of chaplains, chaplain assistants, two religious education coordinators, two Department of the Army Civilians, several non-appropriated fund contractors and numerous volunteers who serve to assist those at Fort Lee with their spiritual growth. Urgent care is defined as medically necessary services that are required for an illness or injury that would not result in further disability or death if not treated immediately, but that require professional attention and have the potential to develop such a threat if treatment is delayed longer than 24 hours. Examples of urgent care conditions could be a sprain, sore throat or prolonged fever. Referrals to urgent care are required. If an appointment is unavailable within your assigned clinic during regular duty hours, beneficiaries enrolled at Kenner must receive a referral for urgent care from their PCM. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Office The HIPAA Officer is part of the Patient Administration Division located on the second floor of Kenner. This individual helps to ensure your protected
health information and/or personally identifiable information are not being inappropriately used or disclosed. Those who feel their rights have been violated can file a complaint with the HIPAA Privacy Officer to investigate and recommend action to the commander, if the complaint is substantiated. The HIPAA Privacy Officer also assists with getting information that is incorrect removed from the patient’s Electronic Health Record (Expungement Request). Behavioral Health Behavioral Health offers quality outpatient services to the active duty military population. Emergency walk-in services and assistance include, but are not limited to, therapy and medication management, chapters, cadre evaluations, psychological evaluations and psychological testing. Non-active-duty beneficiaries in need of behavioral health services should call TRICARE at 1-877-874-2273 (options 2, 2, enter full social security number then press 2, then 1). This will allow you to immediately speak to a behavioral health counselor, or contact your primary care manager to get the help you need. Social Work Services provides comprehensive treatment to active duty members and their families. Treatment includes assessment, crisis intervention, counseling (individual and family), referral, resource information and the Army Family Advocacy Program. The VTF is proud to provide veterinary services for active duty and retired personnel, and their dependents, reservists on active duty for more than 30 days, and 100 percent disabled American veterans. City ordinance and the Fort Lee Supplement to AR 40-905 require the immunization of dogs and cats against rabies. All pets must have a microchip. All pets living on post must be registered within three days after arrival. Bring all recent medical records for registration and updating of the animal’s records. Recreation Directorate (FMWR) provides activities from dining, gyms and live theater productions to bowling, golf, skateboarding and swimming. The Lee Playhouse Theater Group The award-winning Lee Playhouse Theater Group has become one of the most active performance troupes in the area, offering three program styles to meet the various entertainment and cultural desires of the community. The main-stage season produces Broadway musicals, comedies and dramas. Evening and matinee performances are open to the public. Season tickets are offered at the beginning of the main-stage season guaranteeing great seating for a year of fine entertainment. The Playhouse also produces KidKapers, live theater for children by children. Offering a little song-and-dance and a few laughs, these shows delight audiences both young and old. Battle Drive Pool The Battle Drive pool offers recreational swimming for the Fort Lee community. Special Programs in Prince George County Public Schools Programs in Prince George include student-to-student mentoring in middle and high schools, deployment support groups, “Walls of Honor” in schools, memorial gardens to honor military families, and a care package/pen pal program. The “Soldiers in our School” program includes soldiers in physical education classes with students. The connections between Fort Lee and Prince George schools are further strengthened by quarterly meetings with military leaders and a Fort Lee military and civilian council. Grants have allowed Prince George to implement more professional development activities, after-school tutoring, and intervention services to increase student achievement.

COLONIAL HEIGHTS
During the Civil War, Violet Bank became the headquarters for Confederate General Robert E. Lee, June-September of 1864 during the siege of Petersburg.
Colonial Heights, located in southeastern Virginia and originally a part of Chesterfield County, became a town in 1926 and an incorporated city in 1948. Its current charter as a fully independent city was granted in 1960. Colonial Heights’ history goes back much further, however, as it was the site of significant battles during both the American Revolution and the Civil War. Its name comes from an incident during the American Revolutionary War. In 1781 the French troops of Lafayette, known as the Colonials, set up artillery on the heights overlooking the Appomattox River and Petersburg, where British forces were located. Legend indicates that an English soldier stationed in Petersburg, upon seeing Lafayette’s troops across the river, exclaimed, “Look! There are the Colonials, up on the Heights!” Colonial Heights has a land area of 8.15 square miles or 5,216 acres. From 1702 until 1752, the history of Dinwiddie County is linked to that of Prince George County. Before 1702, both Dinwiddie and Prince George Counties were part of Charles City County, created in 1634. In 1752, Dinwiddie County was created by Act of the General Assembly when Prince George County was divided. It is named for Robert Dinwiddie, who was the Lt. Governor of Virginia, 1751-1756. Dinwiddie is only 25 miles south of Richmond, with a land area of 504 square miles. Dinwiddie is a blend of suburban and rural living, within two hours of the Virginia beaches and mountains. Agriculture contributes significantly to its economy. It is a prime tourist destination in the region, serving as home to the Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, which is recognized as one of America’s premier historical attractions and as the most innovative Civil War history park in the country. The waterfront community of Hopewell is located 24 miles southeast of Virginia’s capital of Richmond and readily accessible by I-295 and I-95. Consisting of 11 square miles, Hopewell is located at the confluence of the Appomattox and James rivers. Hopewell is part of the Richmond-Petersburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was developed by the DuPont Company of Wilmington, Delaware, in 1914. This company first built a dynamite factory and then switched to the manufacture of guncotton during World War I. Although DuPont left Hopewell after the war, many manufacturing giants have since located in the city, including Honeywell, Evonik Industries, Smurfit-Stone and Hercules. Blandford Church 319 South Crater Road, Petersburg Blandford Church was built in 1735 as the seat of worship for members of Bristol Parish. The church building was abandoned in 1806 when membership in its congregation dwindled as a result of the consecration of a new church building in downtown Petersburg. In 1901, work began to restore the building for use as a Confederate Memorial chapel. As part of the restoration project, the Ladies Memorial Association of Petersburg solicited funds from each former Confederate state for the creation and installation of a stained glass window in memory of the Confederate soldiers from that state.
Siege Museum 15 W Bank Street, Petersburg Housed in the 1839 Exchange Building, the Siege Museum interprets civilian life in Petersburg before, during and immediately after the Civil War. Through artifacts, documents and photographs, emphasis is given to the 10-month siege of Petersburg (June 1864 - April 1865) the longest period of time that an American city has been under a military siege. The exhibition illustrates how the siege impacted civilian life in Petersburg. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, visitors to the Siege Museum can view the film, “The Echoes Still Remain” narrated by the late film star and Petersburg native Joseph Cotten. The 18-minute film shown on an hourly schedule explores Petersburg’s involvement in the Civil War. Children of all ages enjoy searching for the treasures highlighted in this popular activity. Castlewood Plantation 10201 Iron Bridge Road, Chesterfield Built 1817-1819, Castlewood is one of the finest Federal period houses in Chesterfield County, featuring a formal five-part design with molded plaster ceilings in the main rooms, two stairways to each adjacent wings and beautiful carved mantels with King-ofPrussia marable surrounds. The establishment currently serves as the headquarters for the Chesterfield Historical Society and research library. It was built by Parke Poindexter, who was clerk of the court at Chesterfield County from 1812 until 1847. The original landowner was Henry Winfree, who received the property as a land grant in 1754.
