So tell us Alexys, why should people come to this show? What will they see, hear and experience? Alexys Morena: It’s a very familiar story from the movie and it stays true to the Mean Girls we all know and love with incredible music and choreography. It’s a journey of
self-discovery and most importantly, the show and the cast is electric. The show itself is about forgiveness and finding who you are and being unapologetically yourself. I think my biggest overarching message for the show is that everyone has flaws and everyone makes mistakes, but it’s never too late to right wrongs and be who you are. Y: Without giving too much away, what is the story about? AM: The story revolves around Cady Heron, a teenage girl who moves from Kenya to Illinois and she’s just trying to navigate her way from being homeschooled in Africa to attending high school in America. She basically goes from observing wildlife in Africa to navigating the food chain that is now high school. At the high school, Cady meets two very different friend groups, which we call The Archeries and the popular people, which we call The Plastics. The story is about Cady kind of finding her journey on
what is right and wrong for her and dealing with the struggles of high school and peer pressure and just finding her way of who she is. Y: Can you tell us about your character Janis Sarkisian? AM: Janis is more of an outside chick. She’s one of the first people that Cady meets and is one of the first people to kind of invite her in and show her the ropes. But she is an outcast when compared to The Plastics. She’s an art freak and just very like a rocker kind of a girl. What I love most about Janis is her authenticity. Like she just knows who she is and what she likes and she’s not afraid to show up. And you see that throughout the show as well. Y: So this next question is about you personally. When you were in high school, just a few years ago, if you had met someone Turn to Mean Girls, Page 7
