Naval Weapons Station Yorktown holds change of command ceremony By MC2 Porsha Thompson

YORKTOWN, Va. — Capt. Daniel Patrick relieved Capt. Christopher Horgan during a change of command ceremony assuming the responsibility of commanding officer of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Sept. 15. Rear Adm. Wesley McCall, commander of Navy Region Mid-Atlantic presided over the ceremony. “Events like today are just the glue that binds us all together,” said McCall. “This ceremony by its very significance helps to solidify that bond as a public display of the continuity of Navy leadership.” Horgan delivered a speech thanking his crew, his extended family; his wife, Jennifer; and his children, Alex and Natalie, before passing on his
role as commanding officer to Patrick. Patrick, a Taylor, Michigan native, enlisted in the Navy in 1994 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan in 1999. He also has a Masters of Engineering Degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. Patrick delivered the ceremony’s closing remarks thanking his wife, Charlotte, and his sons, Zachary and Tyler, for their love and support. “When I arrived, I didn’t appreciate how vast the contribution of our tenants and partner commands was to the Navy and the Department of Defense as a whole,” said Patrick. “I just want to reaffirm my commitment to our combined mission across the weapons station and continue to support you in every way possible.”

NORFOLK, Va. — The Naval Safety Command (NAVSAFECOM) is releasing the annual Fall and Winter Safety Awareness presentation for 2023, aimed at providing Sailors and Marines with information to safely enjoy recreational activities during the cooler months. “We are excited to bring back the Annual Fall and Winter Safety Awareness Presentation for 2023,” said NAVSAFECOM Command Master Chief, CMDCM (AW/ SW) Dean Sonnenberg. “The Fall and Winter presentation and media campaign builds upon our efforts from the 101 Days of Summer to create year-round safety awareness.” Between Oct. 1 and March 1 of fiscal years 2019-2023, 149 Navy and Marine Corps members died in off-duty incidents. Of these, 73 were due to automobile crashes, 44 from motorcycle crashes, nine were pedestrian-related and another 23 were killed during off-duty recreational activities.
