Mijas is just one step away from reaching 100,000 inhabitants. The third largest municipality in the province in terms of population, behind the capital and Marbella, had on Thursday 13th, 96,620 inhabitants registered in the census, a figure that is even more impressive when you look back at the past. Mijas has gained more than 60,000 residents in the last three decades, going from 35,423 residents in 1996, according to the first data available from the National Statistics Institute (INE), to 96,620 in 2025; in other words, in 29 years it has gained 61,197 inhabitants. The Statistics Department of the Mijas Town Hall is responsible for keeping this census up to date. In 2024 it carried out more than 31,100 operations in this register, including modifications, cancellations and registrations, of which 726 were for births / Beatriz Martín.
