By Bob Vosseller JACKSON– Members of the Westlake Veterans Club of the Westlake Golf and Country Club are very excited as they prepare for their fourth annual Summer Spectacular show that will be held on July 25 at Jackson High School. The entertainment line-up will feature some old favorites and a new face. This year’s performers include Vinnie Medugno, The Chiclettes, the Coda Band and making her Westlake debut, Jackie DiMaggio. a vocalist and storyteller whose music
blends the golden age of American pop with contemporary faith and soul. She performed for an audience in April that included President Donald Trump who invited her to sing at his Mara Lago golf club in Florida. During her appearance the podcast, Onstage she was described as “America’s sweetheart” that blends the timeless elegance of the golden age with the emotional depth of modern music. “The Impossible Airplane” Takes Shape As Armless Pilot Thanks Volunteers

By Stephanie Faughnan OCEAN COUNTY - Jessica Cox Chamberlain slowly circled the airplane, imagining what it would feel like to take off in it. Born without arms, Jessica has spent much of her life proving that physical limitations do not define a person’s
potential. In 2008, she became the world’s first licensed armless pilot, flying an airplane entirely with her feet. Now, standing inside a hangar at Ocean County Airport, she smiled as she admired The Impossible Airplane, a custom-built Van’s RV10 built through years of volunteer crafts-
manship and engineering innovation. “It started off literally in crates and thousands of rivets,” she said as she led reporters around the aircraft before a celebration. “It’s amazing to me.” Jessica’s eyes lit up as she imagined what it would feel like to fly it. “I

Officials Close The Door On Meeting Due To Safety Issue By Bob Vosseller JACKSON – Residents and officials got the night off from the scheduled July 14 Township Council meeting which was canceled two hours prior to its start time due to safety concerns. Council President Mordechai Burnstein told The Jackson Times that he made the call to not hold the meeting based on a situation that came up late in the afternoon of the meeting day. A few months ago, new handicapped-accessible doors were installed. However, earlier in the day, it was discovered that they were not fire-rated and Township Attorney Gregory McGuckin advised officials the Township would be in violation of applicable fire code requirements if the meeting were held. A “fire-rated” product is lab-tested to withstand standard fire resistance tests for a specific duration (e.g., 20, 45, or 90 minutes for doors). These materials slow the spread of fire and smoke to give occupants critical time to evacuate. Burnstein said township fire officials were working with the State Fire Marshal’s Office and are awaiting further guidance. Depending on the outcome, other meetings scheduled in the Town Hall meeting room this week also faced cancelation. The council president added that the idea of having the doors left open was also considered. However, that might not have prevented a violation notice. They offered that idea to the state but didn’t hear back in time, so the best option became canceling the meeting. An online meeting was also considered but that option is usually used in the case of a dire emergency. Such meetings were first conducted in that format seven years ago during the worst of the covid-19 pandemic.
