By Judy Smestad-Nunn BRICK - The 135,000 square-foot Superdome Sports Complex has finally opened at the site of the former Foodtown on Route 70, which had sat empty since 2003 when the 11-acre site was purchased by the township to halt the development of a home improvement store there. Since then, much has been written about the different proposals and legal wrangling over the property, but in March of 2019, the township gave final approval for the acreage to be split in half. In 2022, an Aldi grocery store opened in the front of the property, and now the sports complex is in the rear. The structure features a 70,000 square-foot in-

Upon entry, there is a large lounge area, and straight ahead, an entryway to the turf field that can be divided in up to six separate spaces. New Program Teaches Students Learn Lifesaving Skills

By Bob Vosseller LAVALLETTE – As kids hit the beach and their pools this summer, they will be prepared for emergencies thanks to a pilot program teaching water safety. Second graders at Lavallette Elementary School had been learning the essentials of staying safe around water through a four-day module before the school year ended. The curriculum was designed to teach students the basics of water safety while building their (Lifesaving Skills - See Page 6)
By J. R. Warnet BRICK - Route 88 is constantly changing with the latest additions of construction and renovations. Residents have been looking at abandoned buildings for years, but will soon be able to shop, eat and get their car washed with new work being performed. Many have enjoyed the food of FINS – Tropical Cuisine, currently located at 2701 Route 88, Point Pleasant. The previous location was in Brick, near the road in the Laurel Square plaza. Since moving in March 2016, the FINS building sat vacant, with its Tiki statues and green and yellow exterior fading. But two businesses will soon be opening in that location. The building pad is being renovated to become a Chipotle Mexican Grill and Quickway Japanese Hibachi, according to site plans by (Construction - See Page 5)
Volunteers Thanked For Building Plane For Pilots Without Arms
By Stephanie Faughnan BERKELEY - Jessica Cox Chamberlain slowly circled the airplane, imagining what it would feel like to take off in it. Born without arms, Jessica has spent much of her life proving that physical limitations do not define a person’s potential. In 2008, she became the world’s first licensed armless pilot, flying an airplane entirely with her feet. Now, standing inside a hangar at Ocean County Airport, she smiled as she admired The Impossible Airplane, a custom-built Van’s RV-10 built through years of volunteer craftsmanship and engineering innovation.
