Schools District Has New Administrator
By J. R. Warnet BRICK - The first Brick Board of Education meeting after school let out for the summer was short but meaningful. It was the last meeting for outgoing Business Administrator James Edwards, who is retiring from his position. But Brick Schools are not without a BA heading into the next session. The Board voted to approve the appointment of Maria Roberts, current Assistant Business Administrator, to the positions of Business Administrator/Board Secretary for the effective term (New Administrator - See Page 5)

The tradition of life saving dates back farther than 20 years, but this year marks a special anniversary. On May 18, 2006, six full-time paramedics answered their first call as paid EMS members. Now, with 36 full-time and 31 part-time members, and multiple seasonal part timers, Brick EMS/Rescue stands ready to serve all the town’s emergency medical needs. It may not seem like a lot, but transitioning from volunteer to paid members is huge. It signifies the town’s needs have expanded, especially with the summer bringing more seasonal visitors to the

shore area. With more people enjoying outdoor activities, Brick EMS/Rescue can handle the influx of calls during the warmer months. A lot has changed in the past 20 years. Even more so since the establishment of EMS services alongside the police department in the early 1970s. The demand for a full time EMS is one of necessity and pride for any town. With Brick’s latest estimated population around 78,000, according to the World Population Review, the need for a fulltime life-saving agency is crucial. With the total number of calls topping over 11,000 calls per year, a need for a full time EMS squad was overdue. (Brick EMS - See Page 4)

By Stephanie Faughnan LAKEWOOD - Less than 48 hours after Americans celebrated the nation’s 250th birthday with fireworks, parades and backyard gatherings, a different expression of patriotism unfolded in Lakewood Town Square. The crackle of a bullhorn echoed across the square as threatening skies sent teenagers scrambling for cover underneath a canopy. The demonstration marked the sixth day of protests following recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations that organizers say have left many Latino residents fearful.
