During one of the organization’s recent monthly programs, held on a rainy Thursday evening, speakers profiled the lives of Governor George F. Fort, Lila Thompson - one of the first female leg-

islators in the state, and Senator George L. Shinn. The presenters included the Society’s former long-time president, Carol Reed and trustees Pat Wright Gale and Sue Boyce who spoke before a large crowd that night. George Franklin Fort was born on June 30, 1809, near the Burlington County community of Pemberton. His father, Andrew Fort, was a wealthy farmer in New Hanover Township. Fort graduated

New Office Opens Serving Women, Infants, And Children

By Bob Vosseller OCEAN COUNTY – The Ocean County Health Department was joined by a large number of state, county and municipal officials recently when they cut the ribbon on its new Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) office at 1328 River Ave (Route 9), Seagull Square Mall in Lakewood. The event garnered much fanfare with presentations and a ribbon cutting ceremony. Brian Lippai, who serves as chief of administrative services at the Ocean County Health Department told Jersey Shore Online.com that the county’s “WIC program is the largest WIC agency in New Jersey and has witnessed a tremendous surge in caseload growth over the past eight years (2017-2025).”

By Bob Vosseller JACKSON – Two political newcomers, Chris Pollak and Alfred Couceiro sought one council seat on the Township Council. When the unofficial vote tally came in, it was won by Pollak who received 12,845 votes (61.84%), besting Couceiro with 7,823 votes (37.6%). Pollak described himself in a candidate profile article of The Jackson Times as “a father, husband, and concerned resident of Jackson. I’m 41 years old and I have lived in Jackson for about seven years. By trade, I’m a building maintenance unit mechanic, and I also own and operate a martial arts school in town.” He told The Jackson Times on election night after the election results were in, that “I think this is a mandate of the people who want change. I want to fight for all the people and I
