Sports Complex Design Drops Dome

By Judy Smestad-Nunn BRICK - A design revision for the proposed superdome spor t s complex re quired a hearing before the Planning Boa rd when it wa s announced there will no longer be a dome in the plan. The original t h ree -bu ild i ng layout included the 75,0 0 0 - squ a re -fo ot dome fronted by two additional buildings h o u si n g a d ayc a r e c e n t e r, b a s k e t b a l l courts and offices. The plan was altered due to fire code com-
pliance. “We ran into a concern that Mr. [Kevin] Batzel the fire official had with ou r dome design,” said applica nt at t or ney Joh n Jackson. “Due to the spacing of the buildings he felt that regulations r e q u i r e t h at it h a s to have a f i re sup pression system, but it’s hard to hang in a blow-up building.” The developer, LCP Sports II Urban Renewal looked at a variety of options and decided to remove the (Council - See Page 4)

By Alyssa Riccardi JERSEY SHORE – What started out as a part-time hobby collecting shells at the beach has grown into a worldwide phenomenon of color f u l, decorated shells. “I’ve always liked t o d o b e a ch wa l k s
and pick up anything interesting on the beach. At one point I had so many shells my husband asked me what I was going to do with all of them,” C a r r is s a C a r a m ic o Chapkowski said. “I decided to paint them and give them away.
