OCC Salutes Veterans During Annual Ceremony

Reina Slate Sweeps Election By Bob Vosseller JACKSON – T he township’s longtime incumbent mayor won a fifth term against a former political ally in an election which also saw the defeat of two council members. “I am humbled to accept th is victor y tonight,” Mayor Michael Reina said in a video from his campaign headquarters on election night. He was joined by his granddaughter Angelina and council running mates as he made that statement. In the unofficial results
on election night, he received 9,254 votes representing 52.91% of the unofficial vote count. Challenger Council President Martin Flemming received 8,165 votes and 46.68% of the vote. The mayoral and council spots are all four-year terms. The vote tallies are unofficial until they are certified by the county clerk a couple of weeks after the polls close. Reina thanked his wife Laura and his daughter Crystal who served as his campaign manager as well as “the residents (Reina - See Page 18)
Challenger Unseats Incumbent School Board Member By Bob Vosseller JACKSON - Voters had to decide between three candidates for only two spots on the Board of Education. Their decision saw a big victory for challenger Megan Gardella who picked up 10,903 vot e s r e p r e s e nt i ng 44.55% of the vote. She ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the board last year but this time around she won. I ncu mbent Board member Allison Barocas of Victoria Circle will retain her seat on
the Board with 7,498 vot e s r e p r e s e nt i ng 30.63% of the vote. Barocas won election last fall filling an unexpired term. I ncu mbent Board member John Spalthoff of Ruby Court received 5,865 votes in this election. He was appointed to fill an unexpired term early last year and lost in last fall’s election. He was unseated by Gardella’s win. Gardella told The Jackson Times that she ran for a Board seat (School - See Page 6)
