There are a number of factors to consider when choosing a financial advisor that’s right for you, your family, and your financial situation. This can apply to someone working with a financial advisor for the first time or someone considering making a change from their current advisor.
One of the most important things when working with a financial advisor is to find someone that you trust. Though not necessary, many may prefer that their advisor is part of a team. If that is the case, you will want to have that same trust with each member of the team. A team approach allows the opportunity for diversification of thought, which may lead to better insights as it applies to your future. Another benefit to working with a team is if one member is on vacation or sick, there will be other members available to take care of you. Likewise, if someone were to retire or pass away, you also know that there will be continuity for you as a client moving forward.
Has the financial advisor or affiliated team member obtained any designations and certifications? Letters behind someone’s name does not automatically make them better at their job; however, individuals who have successfully completed coursework covering the very topics you need help with may have added to their knowledge base. Acquiring designations and certifications is one of the ways that a financial advisor can continually learn throughout their career and, in turn, address your financial needs appropriately.
Most clients want comprehensive wealth planning that warrants a financial advisor be fully securities and insurance licensed (Series 7, 63, and 65, as well as life, health, and variable insurance licenses). If your financial advisor is not fully securities or insurance licensed, that means they may not be able to offer you a full suite of products when addressing your wealth planning needs.
Look for a financial advisor that works for a full-service wealth management firm. Yes, many insurance companies have financial advisors that can sell investment products, but they may be focused on proprietary insurance products. And yes, many banks have investment capabilities now, but they may not be able to offer the same suite of products
and services that you would receive from one of the nation’s leading investment firms. If you are an affluent investor, it is important to assess your options, as a full-service wealth management firm will likely have a broad array of resources available to serve your needs.
Lastly, if you have read our articles before, you know that we are huge proponents of comprehensive wealth planning. Some financial advisors greatly underserve their clients when it comes to the actual value that they deliver. Find a financial advisor that will take a holistic approach in helping you with your planning needs.
We chose to affiliate our eight-person team with Stifel, one of the nation’s leading wealth management and investment banking firms. They give us access to a full suite of products and services to take care of our affluent clients. Stifel also gives us autonomy to take care of our clients the way we see fit. Stifel’s Midwestern values are reflected in how the firm does business – by putting the client first, which has always aligned with our team’s philosophy.
Every financial advisor and every firm is different. It’s important that you take time to find someone that you trust and are comfortable with. If you are looking for a new relationship, the Kletschke Wealth Management Group would love the opportunity to talk to you.

Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal invested. There are no guarantees that the objectives of the above strategies will be met.
Forbes’ Best-in-State Women Wealth Advisors and Best-in-State Wealth Management Teams rankings are based on the 12-month period ending September 30 and March 31, respectively, of the year prior to publication and selected by SHOOK Research, LLC from a pool of nominations as indicated in the methodology. The rankings may not be representative of any one client’s experience and are not indicative of the financial advisor’s future performance. For more information, see www.stifel.info/award-disclosures.

The Professional Women in Building support our local Home Builders Association through community service, fundraising, and volunteer efforts. We host events throughout the year to strengthen and uplift our community.
During the holidays, we assist families facing unexpected hardships, and we remain committed to serving year-round through ongoing projects. We welcome all women HBA members and members’ spouses to join us and make a difference together.

There have been people who say when they walk into their place after our ladies have been there, it's like walking into a hotel. It’s so clean.
Maria Violeta-Sebastian is no stranger to hard work. When she first started J & V Housekeeping, alongside her husband Jose Sr., it was her passion that drove her.
“Cleaning is just something I have always loved to do,” Maria shares. “I envisioned a way to make my Siouxland community more beautiful.”
So, 20 years ago, they did just that, launching the housekeeping business to give homeowners peace of mind with a clean home.
“Often, I’ll walk into a place that is cluttered or dirty, and my team and I roll up our sleeves and get to work. The satisfaction when you look at that same space a couple of hours later is indescribable,” Maria explains.
Maria and her team of three other women work in tandem, something that sets them apart from other crews.
“Once we get out of the van, we head into the space, each with a basket of our own cleaning supplies, and we divide and conquer the space,” explains Maria. “One of us heads to the bathroom, one to the bedroom, and one to the downstairs area.”
Maria handles the kitchen. “That’s my sweet spot!” Maria exclaims. “But of course, I help out wherever it is needed and often take on the bathroom. It’s one of the areas of a home that often needs the most love.”

While they may focus on different areas, they’re cleaning together, taking on regular and deep cleans.
“Deep cleaning brings an additional need for some elbow grease,” jokes Maria. “We are doing the inside of appliances, and those all often get overlooked and dirtier over time. We will also focus on cabinets, baseboards and lighting fixtures during deep cleans.”
One thing they don’t handle: picking up and putting away items. Maria says they focus on cleaning surfaces.
“We want to make sure things are cleaned correctly,” she adds. “Depending on how clean a home is, it could take us three to six hours if it’s a first-time deep clean, but we can also do it in an hour or two.”
"It’s a beautiful thing to be able to work alongside my family and my kids; to leave a legacy behind for them and to have them put their trust in you. But it’s just as satisfying to see the community put their trust in us. Our goal is to ensure our clients can spend more time with their families and less time on their homes."

“Every time she leaves a place, she leaves it spotless,” says Maria’s daughter Ruby, who is the office manager. “There have been people who say when they walk into their place after our ladies have been there, it's like walking into a hotel. It’s so clean. That gives us the most satisfaction.”
Building that trust and satisfaction starts from the very beginning. “Our process and communication truly set us apart from other companies,” explains Ruby. “It’s a three-step process: a phone consultation to discuss your needs, signing the contract, and then the cleaning process. We want it to be simple and easy for our clients so they can love living in a home that’s always clean.”
J & V Housekeeping’s experienced team also sets them apart. “One of our ladies has over 10 years working with us, and the other two are coming up on eight years," adds Maria. “We are building trust with our clients, and it’s why some have been with us for the last 18 years.”
“One of our clients told me she’s bringing something back for us from their vacation,” adds Ruby. “That just shows the friendship and relationships we’ve been able to create.”
Making clients another member of their extended family. “It’s a beautiful thing to be able to work alongside my family and my kids; to leave a legacy behind for them and to have them put their trust in you,” says Maria. “But it’s just as satisfying to see the community put their trust in us. Our goal is to ensure our clients can spend more time with their families and less time on their homes.”
Do one fast sweep of your main living area. Only put things back where they belong, don’t start organizing, don’t deep clean, don’t get distracted. Just reset the room. Fluff the pillows. Fold blankets. Clear the coffee table.

The roof is among the most critical components of any home, providing structural integrity, weather protection, energy efficiency and curb appeal. Selecting the appropriate roofing material requires careful consideration of cost, longevity, climate and aesthetic goals. The following overview examines three of the most commonly used options.
Asphalt shingles remain the most widely used roofing material in the United States, largely due to their affordability and ease of installation. Available in three-tab, dimensional and premium varieties, they typically carry a lifespan of 15 to 30 years, with premium options lasting 50 years or more. Proper installation and adequate attic ventilation are essential to maximizing longevity. Drawbacks include higher utility costs and a greater likelihood of needing repairs or replacement compared with other materials.
Metal roofs carry a higher upfront cost than asphalt shingles but offer compelling long-term advantages. With an average lifespan of 40 to 50 years, metal roofing withstands high winds without cracking or corroding. Metal reflects solar heat, reducing cooling costs, and is composed largely of recycled material, making it an environmentally sound choice. Metal roofs also will not spark or ignite during a lightning strike, and most are backed by manufacturer warranties.
Wood shingles offer a distinctive aesthetic that sets properties apart from standard asphalt-covered homes. Homeowners may choose from a range of species, including cedar and redwood, though the material’s color will change with weathering over time. Wood shingles typically last 30 to 50 years. Installation is technically demanding and should be handled by experienced contractors. Some jurisdictions restrict or prohibit wood roofing materials because of fire risk, so local regulations should be verified before selection.
Consulting a licensed roofing contractor is recommended before making a final material selection. Factors including regional climate, local building codes, budget and structural capacity all influence which option best serves a given property.

Air duct cleaning is essential for maintaining a healthy indoor environment in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. Over time, dust, allergens, mold, and debris accumulate in air ducts, reducing air quality and HVAC efficiency. Our professional air duct cleaning services remove contaminants, improving airflow, energy efficiency, and overall air purity. Whether for homes, businesses, or large industrial facilities, we provide thorough cleaning using advanced equipment and techniques. Regular air duct maintenance helps prevent respiratory issues, eliminate odors, and extend HVAC system lifespan. Breathe easier with cleaner, fresher air. Hire a local, professional, and NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) certified company for peace of mind.
Dryer vent cleaning provides safety, efficiency, and cost-saving benefits. Lint buildup is a leading cause of dryer fires, so regular cleaning greatly reduces fire risk in homes, apartment buildings, and commercial facilities. Clean vents allow dryers to operate more efficiently, shortening drying times and lowering energy consumption. Proper airflow also minimizes wear and tear on dryer components, extending the lifespan of the equipment and reducing repair costs. For both residential and commercial users, dryer vent cleaning improves overall dryer performance, enhances safety, and promotes a healthier environment by reducing excess heat and moisture buildup. We also offer inspections, reroutes, and installations.
Indoor air quality testing identifies pollutants, allergens, and contaminants that can affect health and comfort in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. Our professionally gathered samples are sent to a 3rd party lab to test for mold, dust, bacteria, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other airborne particles that may compromise air quality. A comprehensive report is then emailed to the customer from the lab. Poor indoor air can lead to allergies, respiratory issues, and reduced energy efficiency. With our advanced testing methods, we assess air quality and recommend effective solutions, ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for your home or business—schedule an indoor air quality test today for your peace of mind.
Regular chimney sweeping provides important safety and performance benefits for your home. It removes creosote buildup, soot, and debris that can cause dangerous chimney fires. Clean chimneys improve airflow, helping fireplaces and stoves burn more efficiently while reducing smoke and odors indoors. Chimney sweeping and inspections also help identify structural issues early, preventing costly repairs and ensuring safe operation.

Regular electrical maintenance is often overlooked but plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, efficiency and longevity of a home or business’s electrical systems. From residential homes to commercial buildings, maintaining a regular schedule of inspections and upkeep can prevent costly breakdowns, reduce energy waste and mitigate the risk of accidents or fires.
Regular electrical maintenance helps prevent electrical failures by identifying and fixing issues before they escalate. With routine inspections, potential problems such as loose connections or worn-out components can be addressed early. This proactive approach significantly reduces the chances of sudden breakdowns that could disrupt operations or pose safety hazards.
Routine checks help detect signs of wear and tear, allowing for timely repairs or replacements. This not only extends the lifespan of equipment but also minimizes the risk of costly downtime due to unexpected failures.
Regular electrical maintenance helps increase energy efficiency, which leads to lower utility bills. By ensuring that all electrical systems are functioning properly, homes and businesses can reduce wasted energy consumption, saving money over time and contributing to more sustainable operations. Well-maintained electrical equipment operates at peak efficiency, and that reduced energy consumption lowers utility costs while also shrinking the carbon footprint.
Routine electrical maintenance ensures safety and mitigates potential risks in the home or workplace. Regular inspections allow trained professionals to detect faulty wiring, outdated equipment or overloaded circuits before they cause electrical fires, shocks or other hazardous situations. Prioritizing safety not only protects individuals from harm but also safeguards property from major damage.
Regular electrical maintenance helps extend the lifespan of electrical systems by identifying and addressing small issues before they become larger problems. Routine inspections can prevent major malfunctions that could lead to expensive repairs or replacements. Having an electrical contractor inspect systems periodically is among the most effective ways to keep them in optimal working condition over the long term.
Regular maintenance also improves the overall efficiency and performance of electrical systems. When all components are functioning properly, energy consumption is minimized. The investment in routine maintenance pays off by identifying small issues before they escalate, preventing major malfunctions, improving efficiency, reducing energy consumption and lowering the risk of unexpected breakdowns.

Service and longevity. It’s what has made Knova’s Carpets stand out for the last 40 years.
“We started back in 1985. My dad, Howard, and a friend of his, John, had been installing for another company and decided it was time to do it ourselves,” says Shawn Knox, Howard’s son and president of Knova’s Carpets.
So, the business was born. From carpet to hardwood to luxury flooring, Knova’s Carpets brings the most beautiful, quality, and durable flooring that will complement any home.
“Whether you want the comfort of carpet, the timeless beauty of hardwood, the style and durability of luxury vinyl plank, or a beautiful area rug, we have flooring for each room of your home,” Shawn adds.
While trends may have changed over the years, the quality and products Knova’s has offered have not.
“We really stand behind those products,” Shawn explains. “Of course, as new products come to market, we integrate those seamlessly into our selection. The luxury vinyl plank and tile, for example, hasn’t always been around, but it is one of our most popular choices for hard surface flooring.”
“Carpet,” Shawn says, “is another timeless choice.”
“What’s really changed in carpet over the last 40 years is more about the backing,” he adds. “People probably remember the jute back carpets. Now, it has a waterproof back to help with spills, and that makes it easier to get those spots cleaned.”
One of the biggest trends right now brings in the love for our furry, four-legged friends.

“The focus years ago was on products for families and kids,” Shawn notes. “Now it’s definitely on petfriendly products for dogs and cats, whether that be hard surface or carpet. We’re seeing a real want from our customers and manufacturers.”
And their work can be found throughout Siouxland and beyond.
“A lot of what we do is local, but we do work in Okoboji and the Great Lakes area. We’ve gone as far as Las Vegas, Detroit, Michigan, Colorado Springs, and northern Minnesota,” Shawn adds.
Knova’s Carpets doesn’t just help you decide on the right product for your family and home. They also ensure quality service in installation. From hard-surface for your kitchen, bathrooms, or utility rooms to carpet for living rooms, bedrooms, or steps, the team has you covered.
“Our installers have 30 to 40 years in the business,” Shawn explains. “So, you know you are getting the best service. We are prompt and responsive, and our customers value that. It’s why 75% of our sales and installations are from repeat customers. That’s important to us.”

Another thing they value is family. Knova’s Carpets is family-owned and operated.
“My oldest son is involved in the business as the sales manager. My brother installs for us. I have three cousins who also do installation. My dad stayed involved, and another brother and uncle were also involved over the years. Those that aren’t related to us have definitely become like family.”
“We also want to continue to be involved in the community as we are now, giving back in some way, whether that be with our time, our talent, or our treasure,” Shawn adds.
Looking for flooring or carpet that complements your space? Give Knova’s Carpets a call at 712-292-2029 or visit them at 2500 Glenn Ave., Suite 40, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Siouxland Home Show: This 69th annual event is a great opportunity for home buyers and remodelers to connect with local builders and suppliers. It features over 150 businesses all under one roof.
Build My Future: In partnership with the Siouxland Construction Alliance, this community event is designed to educate high school students about the wide range of careers available in the construction industry. Through hands-on workshops and interactive learning experiences, students explore opportunities across all areas of the trades. This event is part of our ongoing commitment to help address workforce needs in our community by inspiring and preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.
Project Home: This partnership with Western Iowa Tech Community College provides students with the opportunity to gain real-world experience by building an entire home from the ground up.
Siouxland Professional Women in Building:
The PWB council supports the local HBA through community involvement, providing both financial aid and volunteer work. They participate in events such as the Festival of Trees, which raises money for local charities, an annual Silent Auction which raises funds for our scholarship program, and participate in Project Home. The PWB also hosts a hospitality lounge during the Siouxland Home Show and organizes social events for its members.
Scholarship Program: We’ve awarded over $60,000 to local high school graduates going into the trades.

Renovating a kitchen is expensive. Flooring, appliances, cabinetry and more can add up quickly without careful financial planning. Set a budget before shopping for supplies, then focus on products that fit within it.
A reliable design can produce a great kitchen, but looking beyond conventional options can lead to a space that’s more enjoyable. Exploring unique materials such as stainless steel laminate for backsplashes and floors, as well as distinctive cabinetry and design websites or renovation videos, can spark ideas that elevate the final result.
4.
Even the best kitchen layout falls short without adequate storage. A great floor plan, a kitchen island, and quality appliances lose their value quickly when there isn’t enough cabinet space to keep counters clear. Plan storage carefully
Kitchens are among the most common home remodeling projects. Homeowners spend a lot of time in the space and want to invest in making it the best it can be, which is why kitchen projects make up 23% of all remodeling work. With renovation costs running high, it pays to do the job right. Here are five of the most common kitchen renovation mistakes to avoid.
It’s easy to change up a kitchen on a whim after seeing something that seems like it will work great. But it’s hard to know how something will really function without a solid plan. Take time to map out the entire renovation from start to finish to ensure every detail is accounted for before work begins.

by taking stock of what needs to be stored and what type of cabinetry or shelving will keep everything out of sight.
5. SACRIFICING COUNTER SPACE
Counter space deserves the same careful consideration as storage. Some cooks can manage with limited surface area, but those who spend significant time in the kitchen will likely need more room to work. Consider current kitchen habits and how much counter space is realistically needed, then plan accordingly.
A well-functioning kitchen requires the right appliances, a smart layout, and ample storage. Keeping these common pitfalls in mind can help ensure the finished space works as well as it looks.

Bathroom trends come and go, but some elements have proven both beautiful and practical across generations. When investing in a remodel, choosing features that won’t feel outdated in a few years is smart, whether the goal is to enhance resale value or create a relaxing daily retreat.
A well-planned layout can make even a compact space feel luxurious. Layouts that stand the test of time prioritize easy access to the toilet, vanity, and shower, clear separation between wet and dry zones, and space-saving features such as pocket doors or wall-mounted sinks.
Double vanities remain popular because they reduce congestion in shared spaces. Good flow, more than trendy features, determines whether a bathroom stays appealing long-term.
Soft whites, warm grays, taupes, and earthy tones have long served as the foundation of enduring bathroom design. They complement a wide range of finishes, reflect light to make small spaces feel larger, and are easy to update with towels, art, and accessories. Soft greens, smoky blues, and muted pastels are strong

accent choices that feel fresh now but hold up as styles shift.
Porcelain and ceramic tile are easy to clean and stain-resistant. Natural stone, such as marble or granite, brings elegance and long-term value when properly sealed. Quartz countertops are tough and non-porous. For finishes, matte black, brushed nickel, and polished chrome have proven staying power because they work with almost any design.
Subway tile remains simple and adaptable. Hexagon tile works well on floors or in shower niches. Basketweave and herringbone add elegance without overwhelming a space. Symmetry and simplicity hold up better than experimental patterns.
Layered lighting, including ambient ceiling fixtures, vanity task lighting, and accent sconces, keeps bathrooms practical and inviting. For storage, recessed medicine cabinets, built-in linen closets, and vanities with deep drawers maximize function. Shaker and flatpanel cabinetry in walnut, maple, or oak tones work across modern and traditional styles.

When Jose Sebastian Sr. started J & V Landscaping with his wife, Maria, 20 years ago, he never envisioned it would be what it is today.
“There were some days I wasn’t sure if we were going to make it because it’s hard to start a business,” Jose Sr. says. “But I had to keep pushing because I saw the dream.”
Today, Jose Sr. is living that dream, working hand-in-hand with his brother Guillermo, his son Jose, and his daughter Ruby as they bring people’s dreams for their outdoor spaces to life.
“We’re family-owned and operated. From the moment you call us until the job is done, it’s our goal to help the community with their dreams,” says Jose. “Not every job is the biggest, but we’re investing in futures, their dreams, and we’re building connections with them along the way.”
The team of six includes Jose as the crew lead and project manager. Four team members handle hardscape and landscape work, while the other two tackle mowing and smaller jobs.
“One of the biggest requests we get for landscaping is walls,” explains Jose. “Maybe it wasn’t done right the first time by another company, or it’s getting old. That, along with patios are often our main focus.”
Some clients also want walkways installed to make the simplest jobs easier. “We had one client who said it was hard to take her trash out because the path got so muddy,” adds Ruby. “We also have a lot of people call about foundation issues. We’ve seen cracked basements because of water or moisture. If the job matters to them, it matters to us.”
From landscape lighting and renewals to concrete work to snow removal and a little bit of everything in between, we are here to bring solutions every time.

For J & V Landscaping, it's about creating an outdoor space that customers can be proud of.
“From landscape lighting and renewals to concrete work to snow removal and a little bit of everything in between, we are here to bring solutions every time,” adds Jose Sr. “We’re often bringing people peace of mind, and there is no greater satisfaction than that.”
“It’s just a great family dynamic, and people get that feeling each time you work with us,” says Guillermo. “From the office staff to the crew outside, you aren’t just getting another business, you’re getting a family, and we are here to find solutions and create great relationships.”
And from the initial phone call, you’ll see what makes them stand out.
“Our process and communication are what set us apart,” notes Jose Sr.
“We just make sure we are on the same page,” explains Ruby. “We’re asking for photos before we go out to see a job, gathering measurements and making sure we are on the same page as the client regarding the cost, time, and details of the project.”
Even a small change like length or height calls for another conversation with the client.
“They’re spending their hard-earned money to make their dreams a reality, and we want them along for every step of the way,” Jose Sr. says. “We take pride in what we do, and we stand behind our work. At the end of the day, it’s about providing that solution, creating lasting relationships and leaving a job done right. That’s what fills us with immense pride, and it’s the legacy we are leaving behind.”

When it comes to creating the outdoor oasis you've always envisioned, Coughlin Landscaping, Inc. brings your dreams to life with exceptional craftsmanship and genuine care. For years, this family-oriented company has operated on a simple but powerful principle: treat every client and every project with the respect and attention you'd want for yourself.
