THE UNDERLINE

The Underline is a transformative linear park turning overlooked land into a vibrant public space stretching from Downtown Miami to Kendall. Designed for recreation, art, culture and relaxation, the park weaves lush landscaping into the heart of the city.

The idea began with one resident, Meg Daly, who noticed the wide, shaded areas under the Metrorail tracks while commuting in 2013. Seeing their potential, she imagined a space that could serve as an urban trail, public park and cultural corridor.

The first half-mile segment, Brickell Backyard, opened in 2021 between the Miami River and Southwest 13th Street. Additional portions of the trail have followed, and it is nearing completion.

THE REEFLINE

Art in Miami Beach is diving below the surface. Instead of stepping into a gallery, visitors can slip on a mask and fins to explore The REEFLINE, an innovative underwater sculpture park just offshore. Located about 600 feet from the beach, the seven-mile snorkel trail begins at 4th Street in South Beach and continues north past Surfside and Bal Harbour. More than a public art experience, The REEFLINE also functions as an artificial reef designed to support marine life. Its first phase debuted in late 2025, with more segments set to open in 2026.

The project features large-scale works by internationally known artists, revealed in stages. One of the first installations is “Concrete Coral” by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich, which places submerged cars and trucks on the ocean floor to represent the environmental impact of emissions. Positioned 15 to 20 feet underwater, the piece is seeded with live coral to encourage reef growth. Additional works include Petroc Sesti’s whale-inspired “Heart of Okeanos” and Carlos Betancourt’s starfish sculptures that extend along the trail.

Accessible directly from shore without boats or scuba gear, The REEFLINE offers a free underwater art crawl that blends creativity, conservation and education. Conceived by arts and conservation advocate Ximena Caminos (who was the artistic planner behind The Underline), the project uses sustainable materials to help restore coral habitats and inspire environmental awareness.

The 10-mile park will soon span 120 acres, connecting neighborhoods including Brickell, Coconut Grove and Coral Gables.

The Underline features separate walking and biking paths, outdoor fitness areas, sports courts, performance spaces and shaded plazas. Native plants, butterfly gardens and public art installations create a welcoming environment for people of all ages and abilities, making The Underline a truly inclusive urban oasis.

PortMiami is iconic for cruising. Passengers love the exceptional variety of cruise lines to choose from, the new state-of-the-art cruise terminals and the proximity to incomparable voyage itineraries, including the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and beyond.
