WHAT’S IT WORTH… The word worth means the value, importance, or usefulness of something. It tells us how much money an item can sell for, or if an action is good enough to justify the time and effort you put into it. (Merriam-Webster.) In the Bible, worth is not based on money, status, or success. Instead, human worth is an intrinsic gift rooted in God. People have high value because God made them and loves them. The truth is, that all of the stuff here on earth we work so hard to buy and accumulate, does not mean a thing. At the end of our days...people will be cleaning out our stuff, going through our stuff, figuring out what to do with all of our stuff that we've accumulated in our life. The only things of value or worth that remains are the memories and what we deposit into others. How do we make the changes from collecting stuff to amassing stuff of worth. I believe it starts with our attitudes. How do we interact with our family and friends? What are the stories that will be told after you’re gone? Will others think fondly of you while being missed? Will there be funny, heartwarming memories that are shared? How many people outside of close family will even know you were here? We don’t get to choose our family, but we do choose the people we get to have relationships with. As the saying goes, “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.” I think of my own mother in this way. She didn’t have a large circle of people in her life, but everyone that knew her had a fond memory or a funny story they remembered and how she made them feel. What a great gift that still is for me. We can all think of people in our lives like that…the way they made us feel. This is the true worth we need to concentrate on. If the only thing left after you are gone is a collection or an expensive item or even a notable achievement or measure of success, (don’t get me wrong, that is a great thing,) it’s not the kind of worth that lasts. Let’s start to value the things of true worth and not value spending time accumulating stuff. Start with your family and friends and find ways to branch out! Here are some ways to start changing our attitudes and be a Winner!

WACKY CAKE Ingredients
Instructions
1-1/2 Cups Flour 1 Cup Sugar ¼ Cup Cocoa ½ Tsp Salt 1 Tsp Baking Soda 1 Tsp Vinegar 1 Tsp Vanilla 1/3 Cup Salad Oil 1 Cup Cold Water
Mix all ingredients together and beat until smooth. Pour batter into 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes

DID YOU KNOW BEYOND 20/20—YOUR EYES CAN REVEAL SIGNS OF DISEASE In the time it takes to look through a lens and shine a light, your eye doctor can inspect your arteries, veins, and nerves by examining your eyes—the only place in the human body where all three are visible without a single incision. What’s happening in your eyes may indicate issues with other parts of your body: high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, autoimmune diseases, thyroid problems, and even sexually transmitted diseases. The eye, as we often hear, is the window to the soul, but many doctors will say it is a window to our health. The eye-body connection is most apparent in the retina—an extension of the brain. Nourished by two distinct blood supplies, the retina is one of the most metabolically active tissues of the body. Symptoms in the retina mean that you’re at higher risk of stroke, heart disease, and kidney disease. Doctors can observe swelling of the optic nerve, which is caused by intracranial pressure—resulting from conditions such as brain bleeds, brain tumors, low sodium levels, or a buildup of toxins in your blood from decreased kidney function. Eye tracking can assess how well someone pays attention to and processes what he sees, which may aid in diagnosing neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. A great deal of ophthalmology training is aimed at the interactions among the eye, brain, and the rest of the body—good news for people who haven’t seen their primary doctor in years but never skip an annual eye exam. More Evidence of the Eye–Disease Links There are 273 diseases with signs that can appear during an eye exam, including autoimmune and thyroid diseases. If there’s bleeding in the back of the eye, we are sending people not only to see a retina specialist, but we’re referring back to the family doctor, or we’re ordering blood work ourselves. Your eye doctor may also ask additional questions unrelated to your eyes, such as whether you’ve experienced dry mouth, joint pain, or fatigue. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, those who have vision problems should see an optometrist or ophthalmologist at least once per year. Adults should have a comprehensive eye exam at age 40, when vision often begins to change, with follow-up exams every five to 10 years. The value of eye exams extends beyond the eyes. When caught early, many problems can be avoided. There’s just so much more to vision than just seeing and sight. Your Eyes’ Built-In Blue Light Filter Lutein and zeaxanthin, which are yellow pigments, may serve another useful purpose: they act as the eye’s internal blue-light blockers. The color yellow grabs blue light so that light can’t go on to damage the photoreceptors behind that macula, so it’s protection from light damage, Johnson said. Antioxidant-rich foods act like chemical sponges, mopping up oxidative stress from blue light exposure, neutralizing threats to cataract formation. The Overlooked Link Between Body Weight and Eye Pressure High intraocular eye pressure, a symptomless change in the eye’s fluid pressure, can lead to glaucoma, the secondleading cause of blindness worldwide. There is a significant association between excess body weight and high intraocular pressure. Behavior makes a significant difference in eye health, Dr. Joseph Allen, optometrist and founder of the Doctor Eye Health YouTube channel, told The Epoch Times. People who exercise and eat healthier watch their blood sugars—they’re less likely to have complications. Avoiding added sugar, saturated fat, and highcalorie foods such as cookies, cakes, candy, and chips helps prevent high glucose levels that can lead to blurred and damaged vision. Research has shown that macular pigment is also associated with better cognitive function, offering benefits that extend beyond vision.
