The pandemic and the publication’s ownership change delayed last year’s F&R, so as we publish the 14th set of winners in what should have been the 15th edition, the pause gave us a few months to rethink this issue. And we will make up for lost time by publishing a second Faves & Raves next month. Our reinvention plan is to dive deeper into the two areas we serve by producing an issue dedicated to the businesses and amenities unique to each one. This first issue contains “The Best of the San Lorenzo Valley.” We’ll follow up with “The Best of Scotts Valley” on March 26. Each issue will be delivered to the full circulation because residents of both Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley patronize each others’ establishments. It’s not necessary to drive to Santa Cruz or go over the hill— particularly when limiting travel. Fortunately, both valleys have had a lower Covid-19 infection rate than the rest of Santa Cruz County. Shopping local and engaging in recreation activities near home has public health benefits. That’s no reason to be careless though; please remember to wear a mask. Supporting local businesses whenever possible enables a healthy hometown economy, keeps jobs here and ensures that your favorite establishment remains. Jeff Bezos doesn’t need the money. Your neighborhood retailer or service provider does. This issue is dedicated to everyone who keeps it going, through thick and thin. Congratulations to the winners, and please enjoy this issue.
