Shannon O’Connor stands accused of committing 39 offenses involving 15 minors— including 12 counts of felony child endangerment. Prosecutors say she used Snapchat and text messages to help teenagers sneak out of their homes to attend gatherings where alcohol was consumed and where sexual activity, including rape, occurred. O’Connor asked to be released from jail claiming the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office had not shown “clear and convincing evidence” she was a danger to the victims or the public, or that she might flee. She also argued the child endangerment charges aren’t covered by the exceptions to the law that guarantees most offenders a right to bail. But on Dec. 30, California’s Sixth Appellate District rejected her latest bid for pretrial release. There seems to be no question that many—if not all—of the reported incidents occurred.
