We care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity, and instill self-sufficiency… as an expression of the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Metropolitan Ministries will be America’s most effective caregiver to poor and homeless people.

• Our programs will be known for their compassion and innovation in helping struggling families and individuals achieve their highest potential for self-sufficiency. • Our approach to involving citizens in understanding and caring for their disadvantaged neighbors will serve as a replicable model. • Our caregiving will be supported by an exemplary staff, high-quality facilities, dedicated volunteers, donors and collaborative partners. • Above all, our witness will be to the power of love in healing broken lives and building strong, caring communities.
A MESSAGE FROM TIM When my two-year-old grandson and I get together, we have all kinds of fun, and he never wants that fun to end. He repeatedly says two specific words to me, “more again.” When I hear his cute little voice, it immediately puts a smile on my face. This year, I was reminded how the community does “more again” to help families in need. Our donors gave “more again” to help struggling families move towards self-sufficiency. Our volunteers gave “more again” of their time, and together, this enabled us to do “more again” in our community. This puts a smile on my face and warms grandpa’s heart! A long-time employee in our outreach department shared with me how she has never, in all her years of being at Metropolitan Ministries, witnessed the alarming rate at which families are approaching the front desk telling us, with tears in their eyes: “We have nowhere to go.” “We can’t afford to live in our apartment or pay our bills.” “We can’t keep our children safe.” These families have resorted to sleeping in their cars, and at times, U-Haul trucks. This has prompted Metropolitan Ministries to recognize the urgency of the need to do “more again” in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties. The expansion of our campus in West Pasco County will double our current capabilities and services, enabling us to serve even more families, children, and individuals looking for hope. Collaboration with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, Hillsborough County Schools, and the Hispanic Service Council assisted in initiating Pathways to Hope, a homeless prevention program providing resources and support to families and children in 10 schools where homelessness is affecting 5% - 16% of the students.
We have sustained a tangible influence in eight zip codes across three counties hardest hit by poverty through The NeighborHOPE Project where community navigators and organizations have been working together to help residents address immediate needs and provide future opportunities for economic growth. And our commitment to outreach has further grown as we extended assistance directly to communities facing the most pressing needs through our holiday initiative, which included the operation of holiday pop-up tents, and even extended support to our neighbors in Lee County who were impacted by Hurricane Ian. With your support, we have continued to do “more again” in the Tampa Bay area, making life change and self-sufficiency possible for children, women, and men in our community. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to come alongside us to be the best stewards we can be to help as many people as we can, for as long as we can. The drive to do “more again” hits home for me. Now, and in the years to come, I pledge to do “more again” to care for our neighbors in need, as do all the employees and partners of Metropolitan Ministries.

GOING TO THE NEED TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS The NeighborHOPE Project aims to help transform high-need communities in eight zip codes and three counties in the Tampa Bay area. This is accomplished through investment in resources, services, collaboration, and capacity building. Through The NeighborHOPE Project, Metropolitan Ministries is partnering with organizations, churches, service agencies, and civic groups within the target neighborhoods to come alongside their work and fill in gaps in services and resources. Our goal is to invest in these communities to ultimately increase opportunities and resources for residents to help create healthier and more equitable communities.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT
PATHWAYS TO HOPE Metropolitan Ministries is partnering with the Hispanic Services Council and Hillsborough County Schools to provide a new program to families in neighborhoods with high rates of poverty. Pathways to Hope is a homeless prevention program that provides support to families who are experiencing economic instability and/or housing insecurity. The program is designed to provide support to families based on their personal, social, and community networks’ strengths and is specially tailored to each family based on their current situation and needs. The goal is to assist families with attaining housing stability. Pathways to Hope addresses three areas impacting families atrisk of homelessness which include: affordable housing, income, overall family well being. • Lewis Elementary

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE GOES MOBILE THROUGH POP-UP LOCATIONS We served more than 32,000 families throughout the 2022 holiday season.
Holiday Outreach Program included: • 30 community partners • 3 main holiday tent locations in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties • 12 pop-up tent locations in neighborhoods of highest need
HURRICANE IAN RELIEF EXPANDS TO LEE COUNTY In partnership with United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades and Pine Island United Methodist Church, we sent aid from Tampa to families in Lee County who were affected by Hurricane Ian. In total, 1,000 families received vital assistance.

OUR FOUNDATION IS A SAFETY NET The Metropolitan Ministries Foundation (a separate 501c3) ensures struggling families and children in our community find safety, relief, and hope today and into the future. By wisely investing its resources, the Foundation provides reliable, impactful support for Metropolitan Ministries and acts as a safety net during uncertain times. We are excited to announce that the Foundation has a new Chief Executive Officer, Molly James. She leads the Ministries’ planned giving program and nurtures relationships in the community on behalf of the Ministries. The Foundation, with the past leadership of the Rev. Morris Hintzman, Molly, and over 250 members of the legacy society, are making strategic investments and plans to sustain the long-term impact of Metro via the numerous generous planned and estate gifts given each year.
