WI TH GRATIT UDE Every letter or email I sign always includes these words in the salutation, “With gratitude.” Tonight, we will say over and over again how grateful we are for Tampa Bay and its support of Tampa Bay’s Metropolitan Ministries. Tampa Bay formed Metropolitan Ministries when 13 churches of different denominations decided to collaborate to meet the needs of the community. Since then, we have partnered with different churches, organizations, leaders, businesses, neighborhoods, individuals and groups to ensure that help and support reaches the need in our high-poverty and underresourced areas. That spirit of collaboration lives on today and will for the next 50 years. For its first 10 years, Metropolitan Ministries was run entirely by volunteers. Today, 50 years later, Tampa Bay continues to show up with a willingness to serve individuals and families who are at-risk or struggling in our community. Last year alone, despite the pandemic, over 15,400 volunteers came to aid families in need. The spirit of volunteerism lives on today and will for the next 50 years. In 1982, Rev. Morris Hintzman arrived, and a spirit of growth and change was birthed to meet the needs of homeless families. In just a few short years, a new facility was built to care for those families. Thereafter, new programs were launched that included: early childhood education, a charter school, outreach and prevention, holiday assistance, and distributed hunger relief programs. To date, these programs have touched the lives of over 500,000 families. Over the years, new programs have emerged to meet the need of a growing, diverse community. New initiatives like the MiraclePlace expansion in Tampa and Miracles for Pasco were launched during the Great Recession and grew Metro’s daily care to 124 families, providing over 200 children safe and sound shelter on a nightly basis. Collaboration with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County made it possible to case manage another 150 families who were in unstable housing. Last year, the opening of SabalPlace provided affordable housing for 112 families; and we are currently in the process of expanding our West Pasco campus to house another 24 families.

Soon, on any given night, 400 families will have the resources of Metropolitan Ministries to help keep them safe and on a path to self-sufficiency. Going forward, programs like Inspire Hope will take the services of Metropolitan Ministries directly to the hardest hit zip codes where child poverty is in the 40-50% range. The spirit of growth and change lives on today and will for the next 50 years. The common theme in all that we do is that none of it is possible without you! We are so grateful for each one of you, those who came before you, and those who will follow in your footsteps to support the Legacy of Hope and care which the Tampa Bay community provides to families in need. The legacy of hope lives on today and will for the next 50 years. The Viniks are known for many outstanding community initiatives, elevating the quality of life in our region for all. We are grateful for the Viniks philanthropic leadership, and honored to have them as 50th Anniversary Hope Partners. The Vinik Family Foundation is a private foundation created and managed by Jeff and Penny Vinik. Since 2007, the Vinik Family Foundation has donated over $128 million to nonprofits working in the areas of education, human services, healthcare, and the arts – including 600 local nonprofits through the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero program. The Vinik Family Foundation is especially dedicated to broadening the public’s understanding of art through inclusive, interactive exhibits and installations. Metropolitan Ministries was pleased to present Penny Vinik with the Bridge Builder award in 2017. How appropriate that she and Jeff “do the honors” as we celebrate 50 years of HOPE with our entire community. K E L LY RING, ANCHOR FOX 13 NEWS Kelly Ring has been a special, longtime friend of Metropolitan Ministries throughout her time as an anchor at Fox 13 News, and we are thrilled to have her serve as our emcee tonight. Over the years, Kelly has used her platform to help spread the word about the need at Metro and has shared countless stories of hope with the Tampa Bay community. Out from behind the news desk, she has spent time volunteering at our holiday tent, always willing to lend a helping hand with a smile for someone who needs it. Recently, Kelly announced that she is retiring after serving 37 years at WTVT. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Kelly for her dedication, commitment, and love shown not only to Metropolitan Ministries, but to the entire Tampa Bay community.

In the first year, soup and sandwiches were served daily in downtown Tampa. Since then, more than 43 million meals have been provided in six counties.

Over the years, hundreds of thousands of people have gathered at this event for fellowship and in support of our mission. Today, we celebrate you all!

Since this grand opening where 40 families found refuge, more than 1.3 million nights of safe shelter have been provided to individuals and families with children. The Lamplighter’s women’s auxiliary was also formed to help support the children in our care.

This community engagement event was established to ensure the children in our care began the school year with a new pair of shoes. We continue to provide this service annually.

More families with children were coming to our doors for help so we opened PromiseLand to offer day care and children’s education programs while parents worked and studied to have a better future.

E. Earl Jeter, Jr. Volunteer of the Year Award This award was established in Earl’s honor. He was a postal carrier by profession and a faithful servant leader. More than 2 million volunteer hours have been contributed to date from dedicated volunteers throughout Tampa Bay, saving the Ministries millions of dollars in labor costs.

This campus expansion included a commercial kitchen and an outreach and prevention center.

Metro became the first homeless shelter in the country to open a charter school on the premises to meet the unique needs of the children in our care.

The need for holiday assistance had grown, and Rev. Morris E. Hintzman uttered the famous words, “Let’s throw up a tent.” We now provide 12 holiday tent remote locations in six counties serving as many as 40,000 families annually.

Hunger Relief Programs Expand

1st Affordable Housing

To meet the growing need, we expanded our hunger relief programs and partnerships into Pinellas and Pasco counties. Today, we distribute 3,500 hot meals a day and another 1,000 emergency food boxes a week in several counties.

The Sanctuary at Waters complex addressed a critical need for struggling families and those graduating from our programs. It was designed with long-term success in mind and continues today.

MiraclePlace & Miracles for Pasco These state-of-the-art facility and programmatic expansions allowed us to double our capacity and serve more families and children in our residential programs with safe shelter, trauma counseling, and child/youth enrichment programming. This included the opening of the new Patricia J. Sullivan Elementary School in partnership with the School District of Hillsborough County. Metro also became certified in the Sanctuary Model of Trauma-informed Care.

On-the-job experience and professional development are key components of these programs which include: culinary arts, retail, inventory and logistics, customer service, and team training.

We expanded our outreach and prevention solutions to include mobile services for chronically homeless individuals and case management services for at-risk families with children.

Affordable Housing & Counseling & Resiliency Center We took a leadership role as a solution to this critical need and opened SabalPlace, 112-units of new affordable housing for struggling families in Seffner, FL. Additionally, we opened a brand-new counseling center for therapeutic healing especially designed for families overcoming severe trauma.

Expansion In Pasco Recognizing the needs in Pasco County, we merged with Restored Hope in Dade City to help more families in need in East Pasco County. This year, our major West Pasco campus redevelopment project gets underway in Holiday, FL and will be modeled after our main campus in Tampa and offer the same comprehensive services.

E . EA R L JE T ER, JR. VOLUNT EE R OF TH E YEA R AWA RD S TONIA REED | HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY Tonia has been volunteering with Metro since 2019 and serves as one of our Volunteer Leaders. She drives an hour and a half on her rest days as a firefighter to help serve at various locations. Her work ethic, education, attitude, and heart, not only for our clients but for the volunteers and staff, are unmatched and the reason many volunteers return each year. She is a true servant leader.

GLENN & JEANNE ANDREWS | PASCO COUNTY Glenn and Jeanne have been volunteering with Metro since 2016. With over 4,400 combined hours logged to date, they continue to give their hearts and souls to Metro. Their passion and leadership have especially made a significant impact on our Pasco campus; and their commitment, consistency, and creativity are amazing. We are beyond grateful to have them on our team.

DR. JEFFERY JOHNSON & PAULA KAY | PINELLAS COUNTY Through our partnership with the United Way Pinellas during the 2021 holiday season, we were able to serve over 1,600 families in the high-need areas of the South St. Pete and North Greenwood communities. Dr. Jeffery Johnson and Ms. Paula Kay, two key leaders with the United Way, assisted us in reaching these families, opening their facilities, and working side-by-side so, together, we could provide hope, food, and toys to families in these communities. Our partnership with United Way Pinellas is invaluable to achieving our mission of serving families in need with dignity over the holiday season.

I NS PI RE HOPE INIT IAT IV E To ensure that help and support reach the need in our high-poverty and under-resourced neighborhoods, Metropolitan Ministries launched Inspire Hope, a targeted, year-round initiative serving residents of high-need communities in collaboration with their local neighborhood leaders. In 2021 alone, Inspire Hope made it possible to distribute more than 85,000 food boxes. Your generosity made a huge difference. Thank You! But because people need more than food, we’re also: • Adding new “Community Navigators” and “Prevention Specialists” who work together to ensure that families in need have quick access to help. • Funding neighborhood mini-grants. This year, we hope to provide 15 grants totaling $20,000. These funds target areas with the highest rates of child hunger. In all, we’re pumping $100,000 into the community every month, with 80% of the funding going to high-need neighborhoods.

SABA LPLACE : HELPING OV ERCOME TA M PA BAY ’S HOUS ING CRISIS Taking a leadership role to address this critical issue, Metropolitan Ministries collaborated with Blue Sky Communities in 2020-2021 to build SabalPlace, a 112-unit affordable housing development in Seffner, FL to help struggling families find stability. Metro offers wraparound case management services and onsite staff to help families thrive and remain successful with the hope that this program will be a path to home ownership.

Belinda Womack is an outstanding motivational speaker and vocalist who is an aficionado of Gospel and Jazz music. She has given award-winning performances throughout the United States, Africa, Scandinavia, Bahamas, and South America. She has been asked to share her faith and words of encouragement with countless groups, programs, and events across the globe. Some of these include Florida’s Women in Government, Faith Women’s Conferences, H.O.B.Y (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conferences), Miami Youth Missions, Student Affairs of Notre Dame, Leesburg United Methodist Women’s Conferences, Women’s Conferences of Georgia and The FBI of Florida. Her message resonates in both Christian and secular audiences.

DAVID MANSON

David Manson directs Helios, a music group with some of the finest musicians in the State. David is director of the nonprofit EMIT, St. Petersburg Jazz Festival, and the Recording Arts Program (RAP) with Boys & Girls Club students. He believes that the arts are integral to the health of a community and seeks to provide opportunities for area musicians. Helios members for this evening are composed of 9 select members from the Helios Jazz Orchestra: they are Austin Vickrey, Butch Thomas, Lynne Ellis, David Manson, Pete Harrison, Vincent Sims, John Richardson, Kenny Walker, & Rod Alnord.

BENJAMIN OLDER

Many say that Benjamin Older is an attorney who also plays music, but Ben disagrees. Ben says he is a musician that also practices law. Ben’s mother says that he could sing before he could talk, and he would hum constantly while she tried to spoon feed him. When Ben picked up a guitar at age twelve, he was hooked on music. Six months later, he played his first professional gig. Ben asserts that even more than his love of music and practicing law, his biggest joy is raising his daughter, Frankie (a talented singer and dancer in her own right). He shares in Frankie’s happiness and success with Jennifer Older, Ben’s co-parent and Frankie’s devoted mom.

RITA WILSON

The old saying, “Good things come in small packages,” hits the mark when describing Rita’s talents and persona. Being born and raised in the “Big Apple”, where competitive artistry abounds, surely contributed to her musical skills and overall readiness. Others often compare her high-pitch vocal tones to other popular artists, but she owns a unique style that commands attention and admiration. This classy and charming lady delights all who witness her on stage, and she consistently delivers a pure and professional performance for band members and patrons.

SONYA BRYSON-KIRKSEY

Sonya is from Greenville, SC, and is a Tampa, FL, resident by way of the military. She retired in 2015, ending two decades of service to the United States Air Force. Since her retirement, she continues to stay active in the community by raising money to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, with which she has also been diagnosed. She is the co-founder of the SONNI READING PROJECT, an effort that provides children’s stories online by way of podcast. She also participates in local volunteer activities and sings for a myriad of events annually which include Tampa Bay sports. She is currently the voice of the two-time Stanley Cup Champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

THEONITA VALENTIN

Theo is the personality and fire of any show. She enjoys entertaining and draws the audience into the fun and excitement demonstrated on stage. Her blues and heart wrenching ballads are what her audiences request most, while her jazz sets are that of a “Great Songstress”.- Theo has been an extraordinary performer her whole life, and it is obvious to all who have witnessed her performances that Theo is unconditionally just that....ExtraOrdinary!
